Was bummed.. saw such good reviews and wanted to try.Alfredo with chicken was super bland and just tasted like jarred alfredo unfortunately. I did have to replace with GF pasta, so perhaps that altered it, but I wasn't very happy with it.My boyfriend felt the lasagna was bland too.We came on a Sunday night and there was 1 other table there but it took a really long time to get our food.Prices were reasonable, but you get what you pay for. Vibes inside were a bit all over the place with the music and decor. Don't really understand the ambiance they were going for.

Wow! Wanted to watch the Dodger game with my father. While walking down Sunset noticed this place because of the chalk board on the sidewalk advertising draft beer. What an incredible decision to stay! Had the upmost pleasure of being hosted by Junior. Stellar service. Great conversations, amazing presence, and lovely stories highlighting dishes and their backstory(particularly the hot sauce which is unforgettable beyond comprehension). Can't say how much I love this place. A gem in Echo Park. Please come enjoy delicious authentic Italian food. Can't wait for next time! The picture shows how much food I saved...

Ordered a takeout BBQ chicken pizza from here -- was craving just the basics after long workweek and was blown away by how good it was! The red onion is sweetly caramelized so not overpowering, and I think there's a subtle garlic oil that really makes the pizza one of the best BBQ chicken pizzas I've ever had. (Let's be real, BBQ chicken pizza is not normally something that's given a lot of thought or consideration at most places, so this is elevated but still very reasonably priced)The crust has the right balance between delicate and sturdy, perfect balance between not too chewy, has good texture and not shatteringly crisp either, which sometimes happens with thin crust. The chicken is good quality too. It hit the spot and the folks working were kind enough to keep my pizza in a warmer so it stayed fresh and hot since I was running late (without me asking, really nice!)

Delicious food and amazing service! Our server was such an attentive, kind, and friendly guy - I had called to see the wait for a party of 3 at 8 PM on a Friday night, no wait! He was very reassuring even when we were chatting and eating near closing time, we didn't feel rushed to leave which was nice!Shared 3 things - everything was yummy!1) the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken2) California salad (the candied pecans slap)3) margarita pizza (so flavorful)And it came with complimentary garlic bread! Place was spacious, played jazz music, and the restroom was clean!Everything was yum, would recommend - especially on this busy block of restaurants with long wait times, check this place out!

We passed by this place and weren't too sure since it wasn't very busy, but wow... so glad we made the decision to give it a try. The service was wonderful. The gentleman was so kind and helped us with every single question we had. The prices were very good and the food was excellent. Will definitely return.

After a productive day of home cleaning and whatnot, there was no way we were gonna cook- everything was clean! I did a simple search for "dinner near me" and this little spot popped up. Not too many reviews or pics, but the food sounded like Italian favorites mixed with a few new things- now that I can get behind! Ordering online is a cinch- put items in a basket, pay, pick up 15 minutes later. Also, ordering food when you're hungry is... regrettable. I got: fettuccine Alfredo (delicious and creamy- though their online menu states there's spinach and sun dried tomatoes, something I was looking forward to) , shrimp scampi (perfectly seasoned and generously portioned with shrimp!), calamari (the largest pieces of calamari I've ever seen from a restaurant.. like the actual rings of squid themselves), pizza di verdura (light and fresh, yay veggies?) and insalata di cuore di Palma (not yet sure, portions were too big and I couldn't get to it!). Now, the portions are massive and I didn't know because my goodness was it a lot of food!! They even tossed in (delicious) garlic bread!! But seriously, the portions are generous and I'm definitely coming back for that pizza- it's close enough to the lake to pick one up and bring it over for an impromptu picnic. Though I only did takeout, the service was polite and quite kind. He had packed my salad in its own box as it was cold and the other items were hot- he likely saw the "wow this is a lot of food" look on my face He also offered to help me with the door and was willing to help me out but I politely declined as I was parked around the corner. It's a new spot in a great location- I'm sure it'll be filled up in no time! Can't wait to come back and dine in!

Il saggio opened recently on sunset in echo park and we decided to drop in and give it a try on a Sunday night. There was no wait for a party of 4 around 7pm. Everything we ordered was solid. The calamari was hot and crispy; pastas were good with sizable portions. The free bread was honestly one of the highlights too with each piece covered in garlic and edges were crisped. Definitely worth a try if you are in the area and in the mood for Italian

This place has changed businesses more than any other joint here in Echo Park, but I was glad when I saw an Italian food restaurant at last. This is the second location of Il Saggio by the way, the first one is in Commerce. When I first came here they were barely opening, so there was no one but me as a costumer; I recently went back, and there were two more tables occupied besides mine. I love supporting new business and if they're in my neighborhood even more. The service has remained top everytime I come though, whether for takeout or dining in there. They're very generous with portions, cheese and their garlic bread. Ambiance is very chill and nice. Things I have tried so far are linguini alle vongole (linguini pasta with clams in a white wine garlicky sauce), margherita pizza (classic margherita and I love that their dough isn't as thick as other places), and capellini alle checca (which is angel hair pasta on a tomato, basil and garlic sauce; you can order it with chicken, shrimp or salmon). Everything has tasted amazing and fresh even the leftovers the following day. They're waiting for their alcohol permit so I'm sure they're be more busy soon. They're still new in the neighborhood and I truly wish them the best so they stay forever!!! Clean restroom. Street parking or paid lot on the back.

Had a weird experience at Il Saggio. I was in a party of 3 that showed up just before 6pm on Saturday. Only 2 people were working at the time- 1 server and 1 cook, but we were the only customers there, so seemingly wouldn't be an issue. All good to start. Server was friendly, food and drink orders (1 soda, 2 waters, and 3 unaltered pasta dishes, nothing else) were taken quickly, free bread came out right away. 45 minutes later, our food still wasn't out. The server came over to us, laughing, and whispered that our food wasn't ready because the chef was drunk and had to remake all the dishes. We were on a tight schedule by that point, had to be somewhere by 7:30- but she said that'd be no problem, we'd get the food in time. She wouldn't elaborate on when it'd be ready when asked for specifics, just "sometime soon". Another 5 minutes went by with no sign of our dinner, so we decided to leave. Had to search around and find the server hanging out with the cook in the kitchen to let her know we were going. She just said okay and we left. There was never an apology, no offer to make things right. The vibe was just- isn't it so funny our only cook is drunk at work at 6pm? Wish we could've tried the food, since reviews seem overwhelmingly positive. But it's clear why the place was completely empty on a Saturday night when every other restaurant on the block was packed.

Came to echo park for a date night and decided to look on yelp on restaurants near me as the one I originally wanted to go to was a 2 hour wait. We came here as it was close and convenient. Came in and no one was there to sit us down so we sat ourselves. As someone in the back came to serve he then greeted us immediately, and served us. He was polite and nice. We then realized one person was cooking and serving. He gave us our drinks and bread immediately. ONE OF THE BEST GARLIC BREADS I HAVE EVER HAD! Each bite was crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. We also got wings which they were not spicy but so Flavorful. For the main dish we ordered chicken parmigiana with spaghetti in the side. Overall the food was delicious! I would definitely come back again!Oh and the OWNER WAS SOO FRIENDLY!!
