First - go get a lot of cash! They are cash only if you dine in! I live in Austin so it felt like a lot of money......$65 with tip for two of us at the bar. BUT WORTH IT! Second - the sushi chefs are lined up behind the bar waiting for you. They are very responsive and fast! The wait staff gets your sunumono and your drinks. They were very sweet. They were wearing masks which I love. Third - I was here before the pandemic for a late lunch with my parents. Mom doesn't eat raw fish, but she loved her food too! This food is incredible! Even their Inari is unique and creative and especially delicious - better than any I've eaten anywhere! My niece said their hamachi was "the best ever!" The salmon skin roll was warm and crunchy and included perfectly sized greens. This restaurant has always been dependably fantastic, and their streak continues! Already planning to bring the next niece! DELICIOUS and charming and made to order perfectly! (I'm sorry I forgot to take photos of everything because we were very excited! More photos to come next week!)

--CASH ONLY--My friend was craving sushi and wanted to grab some for her birthday. I saw an outdated menu on the Yelp and stupidly didn't fact check the prices (they certainly are NOT giving away a sushi plate for $25 in this economy). We ended up getting two rolls (4pcs each) and salmon sushi (2 pcs) for $25 each. They only accept cash, parking is a nightmare, and we had to gaslight ourselves into thinking those 5 pieces of food we ate made us so full! Food quality was good but the issue is that I would not come again because of the other issues.

On a street with many options, Hide Sushi is a standout. A traditional Japanese approach - you're not going to find any complex rolls here. Fish and rice is the focus and wow do they do it well. Service is smooth and we were attended to frequently. It feels very relaxing in there - mostly small groups so it's not too loud. I would give 5 stars, but the cash only aspect is what's throwing me off. I never have any cash on hand these days and don't want to pay atm fees Before you go, some important things to note-CASH ONLY (they have an ATM inside)-CLOSED MONDAY & TUESDAY-there is parking in the back, I believe it's $12Favorites:Toro Ahi Scallop handroll

Stopped by again! It's been about two years! We were craving some high quality sushi and monkfish but unfortunately on Sunday they ran out of monkfish and conger eel.We waited right at opening and was still able to get a table. Not too crowded on a Sunday. We did get the lunch combo which is now $19, with a salmon skin salad and a bunch of sushi a la carte. We enjoyed our selection of toro, tomago, salmon and yellowtail belly, scallop and unagi. They were quick with clearing out empty plates and refilling our complimentary water and hot green teas. Menu is available online via QR code at the table (hosted on their Google drive). Remember cash only!As it's a Sunday we parked on the street (meters are free but read the signs). They do have a valet lot.

I was in the mood for sushi, and I decided on Hide Sushi for lunch with good company. There's valet parking behind the restaurant, which is much appreciated: if you know how it goes in Sawtelle, you know!We ordered a plethora of sushi à la carte to share, a combo of rolls and nigiri. Highlights were the bluefish tuna (fatty and tender), seared albacore (especially with ponzu sauce), and salmon skin rolls. Service was fast and efficient, and overall, it's a classic, no-frills establishment with quality fish at reasonable prices.

It's a good spot in Sawtelle for some enjoyable sushi, and it's a perfect place for a date or to hang out with a big group. We waited 20 minutes for the two of us and wrote our names on a list. Our server was super friendly and told us there wasn't any more Toro Sushi. Such a bummer :(We split their two (2) piece Salmon Nigiri, which was pretty decent, but the consistency of the salmon was different. We also got their Tekka Maki Sushi, 18 pieces ($22), which was filling. We then finished our night off with a BOOM with their Chicken Teriyaki! I'm not going to lie, but this has to be a top chicken teriyaki for me because I liked the amount of sauce, and it had crispy skin! It's such a unique twist on chicken teriyaki, and I loved it! I would solely come back for this. The interior was also cool, with some LED lights of Japanese flowers or stars on the ceiling. There is mainly street parking and parking garages nearby!

I've been here many times throughout the past two decades and I will always make the track to Sawtelle just for the sushi here. Although it is cash only, I always have plenty in my wallet to cover me and a couple of friends. They also have an ATM machine that you can use right in the restaurant in case you are short. The staff are kind and attentive, but they can't see you until your entire party is present. This is fair, considering how many people leave or take up space even when there are other people who are there and can be seated. The quality of the food cannot be beat and I wish I lived closer so I could take advantage of their lunch menu. I personally recommend the tempura and chicken teriyaki combo because the chicken is seared perfectly just enough sauce that it doesn't feel overwhelming. I'm also a big fan of the monkfish liver because unlike other sushi restaurants that tend to cut it in circles, Hide Sushi creates a paste out of it, and puts it on top of the rice. This health balance the richness of the liver with the plainness of the rice.

Sushi and tempura were on point. Service is friendly. Cash only is the reason I'm giving 4 stars.

The sushi was over priced and not fresh. The seaweed was tough and hard to eat. I don't mind paying for good fresh sushi even if one order is four pieces, but the avocado was brown and my salmon did not taste fresh. We left after one roll and went elsewhere.

I was impressed with this place. They pay attention to small details like using ceramic instead of plastic dishes. They play jazz!! or did on my one visit there. It is pricey but the sashimi I ordered was terrific. I'm looking forward to returning.
