Guzzu Bento-ya is a foodies dream in a very industrial area of downtown LA. This restaurant has it's own private lot with free parking, huge win in DTLA. Came here on a Saturday and loved every second of the experience. This place is deceptively large, you walk in, go to the counter to the left and to the right is a spacious restaurant, where minimalist meets amazing art. The food is amazing. This restaurant specializes in two-tiered bentos. I came with friends and we shared the Norwegian Mackerel, Honey Miso salmon and the hamgu in a demi glaze sauce. My favorite was the Mackerel, but all of them were amazing. One tier has rice, a perfectly cooked egg yolk that you can mix into the rice which when it bursts is ooey and gooey in the best kind of way and the protein and topped with sesame seeds. The second tier has the side dishes. I'll be honest, I'm not sure what everything was, but I ate every bite and everything was delicious. I'll probably dream of the Japanese sweet potato and how perfect they cook it forever. I really liked the noodle dish as well, and the small scoop of potato salad. There was a shisito pepper, which was too spicy for me but that's because I'm a wimp, and some delicious chicken. My friend and I tried the strawberry yuzu drink, and her husband got the matcha drink, all of it amazing. The service was also great. Super friendly, knowledgeable people at the front desk to ask questions to, and when I left I had boxes and without even asking I was handed a bag. Perfect spot to hit up for a delicious lunch. I love that you can come and grab your food quick, or stay and lounge about. If you're in the mood for a quality bento (or Norwegian mackerel, seriously, not the easiest to find) then try this place out!

Pick up orders on their own web site cost 4 dollars more than ordering in store. (Tonkatsu) Phone calls give a link direct to the website to place an order, leaving no other option for ordering ahead of time. Understandable if they used doordash online ordering or something that takes a fee. But this is their own website, and other restaurants that do have online ordering take phone orders as well for normal pricing. I went in and theres just 3 people standing around behind the counter chatting at prime lunchtime so staffing doesnt seem like an issue.Food is good, but this experience rubbed me the wrong way.

A casual Japanese restaurant that specializes in premium two-tiered bentos. With the only option for cashless payments and quick service, this is reminiscent of the culture in which you can take a quick break and enjoy food. Exterior: There is some street parking and parking spaces in front of the establishment. Though the outside leaves little impressions, you can expect much more from the inside and the food.Interior: Soft lofi-music tends to play in the background with anime playing (e.g., Haikyuu). It's surprisingly spacious and includes a variety of wooden and plush booths, tables, and counter seating. They have a couple of bathrooms!Food: The presentation is immaculate (5/5) with attention to detail in the entrees and sides provided. This was worth the $20 and its large enough to share with someone as well! Ordered : 1. Bento - Shio Koji Marinated Mackarel (soft and easy to eat (did not have to worry about eating the bones)2. Bento - Grilled Jidori Chicken (lightly sauced, not overwhelming)Come check it out at least once!

I wanted to come here for a long time but I never got a chance since they closed at 3 PM. My friend and I were visiting another friend so I decided that we will pick up food here. I thought it worked out greatly. Guzzu Bento-ya is located in more of the industrial area so trust your gps. There are a couple of parking spaces right outside the restaurant. The restaurant looks super clean and nice inside. There is even a dining room which would make a perfect lunch meeting spot. Now to their great bento boxes. I love their bento boxes and if this place was closer I would definitely get one weekly. I ended up getting the tonkatsu and I love that it came on a beautifully cooked rice. The bento boxes do come in two boxes. The second box comes with all these tiny sides. I love all the sides. Everything combine together was good and I think the price is great. Overall, if you want good Japanese bento boxes, you must come and give this place a try!

Tried this after it was driven maybe 15 mins to me. It's tasty and seems like pretty good value for the two tiered box, but I think next time I'll try the chicken or hambagu! Wasn't very impressed by the fried batter on the miso tonkatsu but the dine-in experience is probably better. Beautiful presentation and very generous portions though.

Finding this place maybe a challenge, but it's well worth it! I came on a Tuesday at 12 and was able to find parking. I was greeted by the owner and he was real nice. I asked for recommendations and got what the owner liked. I got the Glazed Scottish Salmon and a matcha drink. The food was incredibly tasty and definitely worth the price. The amount you get in the order was quite substantial! The ambiance of the place was calming and friendly. And how could you go wrong when a place plays anime in the dinning area! I definitely will go again! Thanks for good food and service!

A friend recommended me try the Japanese bentos here. This restaurant is located in a sketchy parking lot and I was surprised by the location as it's so hidden. The interior of the restaurant is decorated well but there's limited seating. We online ordered their salmon bento and was shocked by the sheer size of this. It came with two boxes: one box for the salmon itself and the other is filled a generous number of side dishes. The fish is well cooked and seasoned, and the side dishes were beautifully portrayed. I personally didn't really like the side dishes as I thought they were too sweet/odd tasting. Overall, it's a good experience but I don't think I'd try it again due to the price and the environment.

Came here as a pit-stop leaving LA. We were craving bentos and people loved the construction of them so we decided to stop by. There was no line at all and the location is extremely secluded. The inside betrays the exterior completely- it's beautiful inside, like a bar. I loved the decor, it really is a huge step up from any other bento place I'd been to before. I ordered the recommended bento.Their chicken was pretty incredible. Very juicy and flavorful, and portion size was decent. The little vegetables and side dishes they had all had specific pieces which really had unique flavors (I am not totally sure which are what veggies). The egg was my favorite part of the bento, it's really well made and reminds me of onsen eggs from Japan. My opinion is that this is the best bento place that I've been to, and would definitely go again.

Very authentic. Very abundant. Fair price point!!It's tucked near the produce district. We had a little bit difficulty finding the place. You might need a companion to help navigate while driving. The bentos were delicious with generous portions. Food quality was excellent!Mackerel was very buttery when my partner offered me a bite. Although I loved the hamburger and the gravy, but I'm coming back to order my own mackerel bento next time.Helpful staff provided good recommendations!

Must try! This is one of the best bento spots around. You'd never guess it from the outside, but the staff were incredibly friendly, and the owner even came out to greet us. The place was clean and inviting, and the food was of excellent quality. I absolutely love this spot!We came for lunch on a Friday. Parking was easy, though finding the place was a bit tricky--but nothing too complicated. The prices are reasonable, especially considering the high quality of the food!
