I'm impressed! My compliments to the chef. They really know their food! This is the best bbq I've had so far; even better than the ones I've tried in Texas! Most importantly, they have both brisket AND Tri-tip (it's really hard to find both in the same place). Everything was amazing, from the ambiance to the food. This establishment has been open since 1946, and when you walk in, you truly feel like you are in the 40's. As stated before, everything was on point, from the appetizers to the meat. The coleslaw was on point, the creamed corn was really tasty, and the meats were nice and smoky and marbly--you know they use a real smoker. Even their chilli is smoky! You really feel like you are having a campfire bbq. And you know a place is good when even their salad is amazing! It's really hard to make a salad unboring, but they put the perfect amount of dressing and it wasn't overpowering or bland. A special shout-out to Liexzete, who was really sweet and patient with my detailed order and questions! Thank you guys! The only change I would make or request is that you guys add the Tri-tip as part of the combo option, then I'd say this place is perfect!

So, I usually order my food to go, but this was my first time actually sitting down and eating at this location. I'm really glad I did because it was so good. The spot itself is great--it's not in a crowded neighborhood, and if you look, there's always street parking. When I walked in, there was a game playing, and they had a bunch of TVs, which I really appreciated. I ended up watching while I ate, which made the whole experience even better. Since I was by myself, they sat me in this tiny booth, and honestly, it was so cute and cozy--I loved it.I always come here for my barbecue. It's one of my top five spots in the area, so you really can't go wrong with this place. The service was great too--nothing to complain about. My waiter was super patient, helped me pick the best beer for my taste, and really knew his stuff.Overall, the place is bigger than I expected, but it still has a homey vibe, which I appreciate. If you're looking for some solid barbecue, I'd definitely recommend checking out Gus's.

Visited this location since I really enjoyed the one in Porter Ranch. This one was not as great as the Porter Ranch location. I took my mother to breakfast on Sunday 1/19 and Service was really slow. I had to ask about our meals several times. We ordered only breakfast items. For starters we ordered the cinnamon roll on the skillet, that was pretty good . For our meals I ordered the Vegetarian Omelet and I had to send it back as it was runny and not cooked all the way through, the country potatoes were overcooked so I changed those out for the fruit bowl. My mother ordered the two eggs any style and she wasn't impressed with her meal but she ate it anyway. Our server Louie B was pleasant and nice and he kept informing us our food would be out and it never came so I had to keep reminding him. We waited close to an hour for our food to come out and once we got it wasn't what we expected it to be. We sat outside since I brought my dog, outside seating is just chairs and tables placed nicely on the sidewalk, in front of the restaurant, not a real set up. I'm not sure I would go back to this location as I really love the Porter Ranch location, food and service was way better and service was top notch. This locational need to work on food presentation as well.

South Pasadena. I love Gus's. It's close to home, it's almost always accessible, delish food, helpful service and if you're not in the mood for BBQ like me, I can find other options, mostly Southern fare, which I love. Im good with that. First, when you arrive at Gus's you feel like you've arrived at a dark homey bar but not. You see a host, counter seating in the right for people without reservations. As you walk in to the back you arrive at the dining room and bar that holds parties of 2 and above. It's comfy and neighborhood y. I love it here. The food and the drinks are very good to excellent. I love Southern food and can only have it Gus's , unless I want to drive to another resto 20 miles away, so on a quick dinner run, I love coming here. Service is on point, attentive, friendly, welcoming. yes, I've visited back often. End of Yelp.

Hands down my favorite spot for fried chicken in Pasadena (even with howlin rays as competition). The fry is perfect and light and not too greasy. It usually comes with greens but I got green beans instead and they were so yummy. Mashed potatoes with the gravy was delicious. It was pretty crowded for a Friday night but we got a table right away. Dont skip the cornbread yall, it was my favorite part!

I enjoyed the brisket. I wish they didn't put the bbq sauce on it or let you choose the flavor from the caddy on the table. The mashed potatoes were my favorite part, and the few bites of pulled pork and creamed corn I had were great! My boyfriend really liked the dirty rice. The green beans were bad, tough and flavorless, but it is the wrong time of the year for them right now. Every time we have come here, I feel like we've been put in the "kids table" section. It's just my boyfriend and I, no kids, but without fail we have been sat in the front section by the door with multiple families with very loud, very young children. I understand it's a family restaurant, and I expect it to be loud. Still, when I walk to the bathroom and see the extensive seating in the rear of the restaurant with an older demographic, I'm disappointed. The service was great and our food was out a few minutes after we ordered!

My daughter got to pick the place she wanted to go to and she chose Gus's. The place was packed and a long waiting period [about 35 minutes]. I never complain about having to wait because it means that it has to be good, right? We ordered the rib and two meat special and everything was good. My wife ordered the cornbread and while she was not a big fan of corn being in it, I was. Very tasty. The ribs were decent as was the sausage. The brisket was a little tough. We had the green beans and the sweet potato fries. The green beans were a little al dente but I liked them. Scott, our waiter, was awesome and it looked like everyone was happy with the service. I see that they have a nice drink menu too although we didn't have any alcoholic drinks today. The passion tea was very good.Overall, I think the BBQ is good but there are so many good BBQ locations in the area that I think are just better. Not that I would hate coming back but if I am going somewhere more than 10 miles from my house to have BBQ, there are a lot of options. But I ain't hating Gus's.

Wowowow! It's so hard to find a good bbq spot in LA/socal and this spot might be my new favorite. The cornbread was one of the best I've had, collard greens/potato salad were amazing too. For protein, the brisket was my favorite. I thought the St. Louis ribs and sausage was good but not mind blowing. Next time I would skip on the sweet potato fries as well. Service was nice and very attentive. Provides great recommendations too! Parking: there's a small lot that fills up really fast and street parking available.
