I had dinner at Fixins Soul Kitchen with a friend, and overall, it was a solid experience. The food was good but didn't quite blow me away. The oxtails were tender and well-seasoned, and the fried green tomatoes had a nice crunch, though I wished for a bit more flavor and that they were quite so thick. The wings and waffle were a nice touch, especially for the price. The drinks, on the other hand, were pretty good. We had Teremana Blanco and Uncle Nearest 1884, both of which were well-poured and complemented the meal nicely. The highlight of our visit was the service--Matthias was excellent! Attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed without being intrusive. That level of service really made the experience more enjoyable. For the quality and portion sizes, I'd say the value was pretty good. While the food didn't completely wow me, it was a good meal in a welcoming atmosphere, and I'd consider coming back.

Finally made it to the famous Fixins! I have to say it was pretty good and lived up to the hype. I'm not a huge soul food lover but I have my favorite southern dishes I do enjoy indulging in from time to time. I'm glad I got to visit the LA location to enjoy the meal with my family. Not gonna lie I was a little nervous to try the food, but that quickly changed once I got a piece of that catfish. Food: I ordered the fried fish plate which came with two sides and corn fritters, in which I swapped the fritters for a cornbread muffin. My sides included yams and red beans & rice. I'm sorry but I had to swap the macaroni and cheese as it wasn't my fav. Let me not forget that crispy fried chicken wing! Of course I couldn't leave without spiking my sugar levels with some koolaid. Listen!!!! Just order it! The portions were just right and I was most certainly full. Service/ pricing: The service was great! Our waitress Chassidy was great at recommending menu items, helpful with the special requests, and ensured our party was well taken care of. Cost of meal and additional items were about average. Ambiance: the restaurant is family style setting which makes you feel more at home. The creative artwork pays homage to staple products in the black community and I loved every bit of it. Overall, this was a really nice family outing and great way to try a new spot. If you're in the DTLA area give Fixins a try!

Service was amazing, everyone was super friendly and attentive! We can around lunch time and food came out pretty quickly. Food- great spot for intro to this style of food. Make sure to get the gumbo must add the shrimp! Flavor was delicious. Fried chicken not so great. The Mac tasted like it was microwaved. Drinks- tried multiple but taste wasn't great heavy on artificial syrups. If you like super sweet alcoholic drinks these are good choice. The smash was the best out of the 4 we tried (see pics)

Place was super packed. We had reservations and we were seated 30 mins later. Lol Devil fried eggs and their home made ranch dressing was the highlight for me. I ordered the Crispy chicken sandwich and after i took the first bite i saw there was a HAIR!!!. I was so grossed out - didn't bother eating the rest of it. Just had my side salad.Banana pudding was good.It was better the next day! Shrimp and grits had some good flavor. The tomato in it was weird to me.Parking- street parking everywhere(depends how much you want to pay). Parking structure at LA Live(they do not validate).

Fixins Soul Kitchen in Downtown LA is an incredible spot for soul food, and the service is just as amazing as the food! The staff is warm, attentive, and makes you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.The food is absolutely delicious. The oxtail and fries are tender, rich, and perfectly seasoned. The fried chicken is crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and full of flavor. The fish nuggets are mandatory - with a light and flavorful coating that's just right. Don't leave without trying the peach cobbler with ice cream as it's warm, comforting, and the perfect sweet ending to the meal.Fixins truly delivers on both food and hospitality. If you're looking for a spot that does soul food right with exceptional service, this is the place to go!

What I loved: This food was gooooood! Definitely try the deviled eggs and the fish, their drinks are really good as well. Loved the music they played and our waitress was really nice. What I didn't like: music was so loud felt like we had to yell to hear each other, you have time limit when you sit down - while I understand you don't want people waiting long when it's busy it also makes you feel like you have to rush to enjoy everything. Would definitely recommend though and I would go back and try so thing else.

Date of visit: November 29, 2024Selections:Sweet Tea 3 Fried Chicken:- Dark Meat (2 legs and 1 thigh)- Mac & Cheese- Candied Yams - CornbreadExperience:We decided to try out this place after going to the Auto Show at the LA Convention Center. My husband picked out this place since it looked like a lot of people were eating here. When we went inside, we noticed that were a handful of tables that were empty and was hoping to be seated right away, but were told by the hostess that there was quite a bit of a wait. I gave them my number and we just stood near the entrance waiting to be seated. We found out later on they were short staffed for Thanksgiving day and that's why the tables weren't being filled up as fast as we thought they would. Eventually we did get seated at a high table and I was excited to get some soul food into my belly. I ended up ordering a Sweet Tea and the 3 pieces of Fried Chicken that came with two sides and a biscuit. I selected Dark Meat (2 legs and 1 thigh) with a side of Mac & Cheese and Candied Yams and replaced the biscuit with cornbread.I liked how they had art displaying famous black people and I want to say that the music that was playing was all black artist as well. The sweet tea was extremely sweet so I asked the waitress to add the plain tea to balance it out. The chicken pieces were really crispy and I enjoyed the cornbread that came with it. The Mac & Cheese was okay and I wished I picked another savory side instead of the Candied Yams after having really Sweet Tea. Overall, would come back again for the chicken and to try more options on the menu.

Been meaning to try this spot for a while. Stopped by during my lunch break on Monday afternoon. Not busy at all. Staff was very kind and helpful. Walked in and ordered to-go. I got the Fried Catfish with hushpuppies. I got collard greens and rice & beans for my sides. Wait was short, only about 10 mins. The food was great!! Exactly what I was craving. The fried catfish was hot, crispy, and seasoned well. The rice & beans were extremely flavorful and honestly surprised me. The collard greens were good, the hushpuppies were my least favorite. Overall, I had a great experience. Super quick and easy. Great staff. I would highly recommend and come back to try more items!!
