I asked for the best restaurant in LA, and Dunsmoor was the answer. The service and food were undoubtedly exceptional. This was an amazing gem in Glassell Park, and reservations need to be made in advance. We went early for walk in and were lucky enough to be eventually offered a seat! We hung out by the bar and had appetizers and eventually made our way to the main restaurant to experience the rib eye. Everything was so delectable. I'm already planning my next visit! My favorites were the cornbread, tuna toast, and obviously the rib eye and mashed potatoes!!! A piece of advice, if you make it to the bar.. get the burger before it's too late. They only make a limited amount per day. My only regret...

I recently went for dinner, eager to see what the chef had in store after being a longtime fan of his food. This little hidden gem came close to a perfect score.Upon arrival, I noticed some open reservations online. The host warmly greeted us, but since we were walk-ins, she directed us to the wine bar for à la carte dining. The wine bar was completely packed, with about a 30-minute wait for a seat. Checking my phone, I saw a reservation available in the main dining room within the next 30 minutes, so I booked it and headed next door for a quick drink. When we returned, we were seated immediately. As we looked over the menu, the busser promptly served water and let us know our server would be with us soon. When our server arrived, he walked us through the menu and made some thoughtful suggestions. Even though I had a plan in mind, his recommendations steered us in a different direction for our appetizer--and I'm glad they did.We started with the tuna, which was good, and the dates, which were absolutely delicious. For the main course, we ordered the cheddar potatoes, which were a bit bland for my taste, and the pork chop--OMG, that pork chop was incredible! The richness of flavor and perfect seasoning made the potatoes feel less exciting in comparison, but the pork chop itself was pure perfection. Our server also recommended a glass of wine to pair with it, and his choice was spot on.We passed on dessert since we were full, but overall, the experience was fantastic.Pros & Cons Pros: Warm service, excellent food, cozy ambiance with communal tables separated by candlelight (neither forced nor intrusive), great for a date or a night out with friends. Beer and wine only. Cons: Reservations are required, and the host does not take walk-in reservations or a waiting list.Would definitely return!

First of all, walking in, the ambiance was wonderful. It didn't feel hoity toighty, I was definitely overdressed but it didn't make me feel self conscious. Our server was so friendly and kind, she was honest and gave recommendations for the stellar dishes we ate. I loved ordering all at once and getting our food by course. The food was stellar. We had the baby albacore that was bright and tangy on top of great quality fish, the cornbread was succulent and sweet with touches of jalapeño and the rich butter. We had the Kobe beef tartare that mixed the soft meat and chives/lemon flavorfully. For our entree we did the pork chop and cauliflower side. The pork chop was cooked perfectly and the cauliflower was pesto-y and topped with nuts. Succulent! We drank the ginger lemonade and opted out of wine. But the piece de resistance was the sticky date pudding. It was rich and opulent but simply delicious. It was some of the best food I've had this year so far. I can't wait to go back!

Cool looking spot on the inside but can't say I love the communal table concept. Ended up being fine but should let you know. Other than that really small detail we had a great time at Dunsmoor! Abigail our server was friendly and helpful in terms of how much to order since you have to order all at once. On to the food...it's all about the cornbread and the pork chop. Make sure both are in your order. I would even suggest that the corn bread could be for dessert. I also enjoyed the dates. Again on the sweet side, almost candied, but really nice with a red wine. Valet $10 with validation.

First and foremost. CORNBREAD. Absolutely delicious! It was the standout of the entire meal.We also ordered the amberjack, which was unique and definitely worth trying. The albacore, on the other hand, was just ok. I'd probably skip it next time. The pork chop and rice were the perfect pairing, so I'd recommend having them served together since they complement each other so well. For dessert, go with the chocolate cake. It's simple but expertly made, with perfectly balanced flavors. Best way to end the meal! Service was also great and on point. They were very nice and always anticipated our needs before we even had to ask. Most of the tables are communal so be prepared for that as well but it's quite spacious even though we were seated next to a diff party. All in all I think we'd come back but not in a rush if that makes sense.

Amazing food!I made a reservation here for my partner's birthday. I didn't realize they had tables other than communal ones and also find the chef's table fun, so reserved seating there. We ordered the date starter, cornbread, scallops, cauliflower steak, trout, and citrus pie for dessert. The date starter was fantastic. It comes with a melted brown butter sauce and bread, and it was perfectly balanced. Amazing. The cornbread is no joke. Dense but fluffy and an incredible crust. Life-changing!The scallops were lovely. They had a wonderful sear and the butternut squash component was a flavorful one.The cauliflower steak was great! We loved the texture of it and thought the herbiness added a fresh touch. We enjoyed the trout as our main but it was the only dish we wouldn't order again. It was cooked nicely and was an overall solid dish, it just didn't feel special. It came with grits and the fish goes better when you get a bite of grits altogether. We got the citrus pie for dessert which was amazing. Great flakiness on the crust and the pie itself was custard-like in texture and super yummy. We can't wait to come back! It was fun to sit at the chef's counter and watch them do their thing, but now that I know they have regular tables for smaller parties, we'd opt for that next time. Also need to try the ribeye when we come back!

Beautiful looking restaurant with a rustic feel, a few individual tables with banquettes, and a lot of communal seating. Sometimes it felt like we needed more table space for all the plates, but everything worked out fine.We had a bit of confusion and a bit of a delay with wine service, but all was well. We ended up ordering a couple beers and a couple glasses of sparkling wine for the table before opening the wine we brought ($40 corkage). Abigail was our server and gave us some suggestions for how much to order, while letting us know that we needed to put our entire order in at one. At the table, we all shared Dates ($14), the Chicken Liver ($17), the Kobe Beef Tartare ($29), the Rice and Peas ($32), the Cheddar Chive Potatoes ($13), the Sour Milk Cornbread ($21) and the Pork Chop ($61). The Pork Chop and the Cornbread were the big winners of the night! I also liked the flavor of the Rice and Peas, though I thought the Beef Tartare and the Potatoes were just so-so. Good service, good food, and great company! Valet right in front, $10 with validation from the restaurant.

Dunsmoor was an absolutely fabulous experience from top to bottom.I've been waiting for cooler weather to go and enjoy this protein intensive menu. I just love wood fired cooking and haven't had the opportunity to try it in too many places in town. I appreciated everything from the gorgeous building and decor to the warm and knowledgeable staff to the mouth watering food. It was a meal I really savored. Standouts were definitely the ribeye, dates, mushrooms and cornbread. I have absolutely never even conceived such a delicious cornbread which was so buttery and decadent. Not a hint of dryness.I don't often eat steak out because the meal just gets too heavy. And yes, we took a big chunk of the steak home but it was a knockout. I always love mushrooms so no surprise to me that these roasted mushrooms were completely on point. I love that they used high quality varieties with plenty of herbs. The warm dates in brown butter was so creative with the bread that comes on the side. I rarely eat bread in restaurants but this was definitely worth the carbs. I would definitely rank this as one of my top three meals of the year and cannot wait to go back for more.

Rated one of the top LA restaurants at the moment and we understand why! We hadn't had a culinary experience like this in a very long time. We started with the chicken liver pate which was served with Bub's sourdough bread. Heavenly combo!Followed by the most amazing Cornbread we had ever tried! Dunsmoor is known for their Sour Milk Cornbread and you cannot skip it. Then we moved on to the star of the show, the Pork Chop! My husband and I both agreed that this was the BEST Pork Chop we had ever tried. The flavor was on point and it was cooked to perfection. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the music that was played but we can't wait to go back and try some more food items. The service was outstanding too. Very friendly and attentive.
