I've been coming to Fox's in Altadena for a long time. I am terribly saddened by its loss in the fires. I used to eat at Firefly in Pasadena, also owned by the same great restauranteur, Paul Rosenbluh. Some research led me to Cindy's in Eagle Rock. What a fantastic coffee shop! Old-fashioned diner atmosphere and lots of good Southern eats. Service is great, decor is adorable, and menu is fantastic. Food is delicious. Cindy's makes me feel like the world was before the Internet. I miss those days. Cindy's brings it back to life.

I came with a friend yesterday. The waiter we had is a man of few words. When I asked him about the pies he just pointed me to the board and said "they're over there" pointing to a glass cabinet behind the counter. I am someone that likes to see what looks appetizing and they wee too far to see. Knowing I didn't want a refrigerator pie. I ordered what I thought was a baked pie the Key lime and coconut. The slice came and it didn't taste good. It's was a hyper sweet and not citrusy refrigerator pie. I ate about half of it and felt nauseous for ay two hour after. My friend ordered a tuna sandwich. The tomato's were under ripe and the bread was dry and tasteless. The tuna was good but everything else was terrible. For two coffees, one stale tuna sandwich and a terrible slice of pie we pad $35 plus tip. The waiter never came to check on us. To ask if we needed anything or how the food was. I've been there before and had good. Nice, chatty, happy to answer questions and make suggestions servers. The way good old fashioned American dinner service should be. Frankly a pie from a grocery store would have been more enjoyable.Adding that I was here a few months ago for breakfast and they serve their pancakes cold and with their own syrup that they make which tastes like watered down molasses. It's terrible. Cheap pancake syrup from Smart & Final would be much better.

Passed by Cindy's back in October when having dinner at a restaurant nearby. I made a mental note to go back and try Cindy's. Today was the day. Went for breakfast and arrived before 9:30am which was a good thing as it filled up quickly. We waited for a booth instead of sitting at the counter because more than two people at a counter seating situation is harder to visit. The wait wasn't too long. However, the diner did explode with customers and people walked in and turned around and left. The menu is higher-level diner options. Choice of ingredients are more premium than American cheese and Jimmy Dean sausage. Breakfast is served until 11am before they change to the lunch menu. Some menu items were said to be offered all day. Assorted fruit and cream pies are available for dessert if you save room. The menu portions are large and filling.Staff weren't unkind, but not overly exuberant. The space is on the smaller side. Booths and counter seating available. And a few outside tables, as well. The decor is bright and happy. Parking lot is narrow with smallish parking spaces. I observed many larger vehicles struggle getting in and out of the diner's parking lot.

First time at Cindy's and it definitely is soooo cute and a vibe and quite busy with many people!! came more for dessert with a group that all has quite different palettes so this is JUST from my POV especially since I didn't pick all the desserts!Food:-peach cobbler: it was hard on the outside and a lot of peaches inside! This isn't my favorite to begin with but it was still alright. I love a good crust! -banana cream pie: this was almost all cream which I'm not used to so I wasn't the biggest fan of it. But the banana part was pretty dense and thick, and the crust was small which.. I was bummed about. But not everyone goes for pies for the crust, heh-carrot cake: I actually didn't eat this one BUT the group (4 other people) looooved the carrot cake the most! Loved it's moist and sweet-but-not-too-sweet taste! -sweet potato fries: a little limp and not too crisp, but still solid sweet potatos! Drinks:-coffee: diner coffee! So expect that and it was good for me, i love diner diner heh Overall, very cute!! Aesthetics and vibes! I think I'll try to go again for a burger or meal type things? The desserts weren't my favorite so I wouldn't come back just for the desserts. But for some diner coffee and a burger? I'll try again!!

My girlfriends and I came here to do book club and share many slices of pie!! First off, yes to parking. I'd come here solely for that reason. A private lot that's free? Say no more!!! Second, the service was wonderful and everyone here was so nice. :) As for food, we didn't really try anything substantial and instead went for coffee and pie! Nothing wrong w that! :) the slices are nicely sized and satisfy the sweet tooth. It was fun to try many different kinds together! You can't go wrong w any of them! The ambiance is pretty cool. I love diners and this had all the vibes. Bathroom is outdoor.

Let me start with parking--extremely tight on a Saturday morning. The place was packed. It wasn't unbearably loud, but definitely loud enough to notice. I decided to sit at the bar since I came alone, and most of the tables were filled with families. Even the bar was crowded, though, and the lady sitting next to me was way too close--like, close enough to kiss. But that's another story. So, here's the deal: I'm an older Black man. When I walked in, everyone looked at me. I wasn't being paranoid--it's just what happened. Didn't bother me, though. I found a seat and settled in.The staff? They all looked like your typical liberal college kids. Eventually, a Mexican guy came over and asked if I wanted a drink. I asked for hot chocolate, but they don't serve that. No big deal. I ordered shrimp and grits instead. Now, let me tell you--if you're from the hood or the South, shrimp and grits are supposed to be everything. Rich, flavorful, something to savor. What I got? Shrimp and grits soup. It came swimming in some kind of broth, loaded with onions, drowning the grits. It didn't even look good, but I decided to give it a try. Big mistake. The shrimp was decent, but the rest? Straight trash. I barely made it through three bites and left the rest. And get this--I paid $25 for that mess. The service wasn't much better. The dish normally comes with mushrooms, which I'm allergic to, so I specifically told them no mushrooms. The first plate they brought out? Full of mushrooms. They took it back, but I had to wait another 20 minutes for a replacement. The servers weren't particularly friendly, either--it felt like that kind of forced friendliness because, well, they have to.Meanwhile, the lady sitting next to me had smothered potatoes that smelled amazing. I think I just ordered the wrong thing, but one thing's for sure: I'll never order shrimp and grits from there again.

A small but cute diner serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It's very well maintained being that it's been open a long time. Employees were very nice and hospitable. The interior is so aesthetically pleasing and takes you to a different time period which makes it even more enjoyable to eat. Came for breakfast and ordered a chorizo burrito with black beans served on the side - so flavorful and filling. It was very hot when served. Crisp tortilla on the outside with just enough filling of potato, egg, and chorizo. The pancakes are fluffy and flavorful as well. Will definitely return to try more menu items especially their pies.Parking may be difficult to find during peak service as their lot is small. The inside is small as well so there may be a wait, but definitely worth it.

Occasionally grab a piece of pie to go. Pies are tasty but they are goddamn stingy with the portions. Cheated for the last time, won't be back.

Great little diner right off Colorado! Stopped by today on Easter Sunday around 1 and it was quite busy. We wrote our name down on the clipboard to be seated inside and waited for about 30 minutes. There's a big selection of meals which made it challenging for me to pick-- everything looked great. I settled on the cheeseburger and fries. The cheeseburger itself was tasty and the bun was nice and fluffy but the fries aren't anything special, kinda soggy. My partner got Noah's ark and I got a taste of the pancakes. SO GOOD! definitely will need to get that instead next time along with a selection from their dessert menu. I lean towards cake but the pies look amazing. PS, there is parking on-site but is limited and you can probably find street parking. The bathroom is also not located in the restaurant but to the side of it which you'll need a key for.
