The vibe is cozy and welcoming, and the service was friendly! Eric, the manager, took care of us and was super knowledgeable and helpful.I originally came for their viral tuna bone marrow, but turns out it's only available on Fridays (rookie mistake!). Luckily, everything else I tried was amazing. My favorites were the Bluefin Tuna Lover platter (otoro, chu-toro, and bluefin tuna), the seared bluefin tuna with asparagus, and the Chubby Sashimi platter. The Kumamoto oysters were sweet and fresh, and I even got a bowl of shoyu ramen to round it all out. Oh, and don't forget to ask for fresh wasabi, they have it, and it's a must!Prices are super reasonable for the quality, and I can definitely see myself coming back.

Parking was horrible. We valet parked and waited for 15 minutes. Who knows what would have happened if we self parked. Service was good and attentive. Ramen was average. Sushi was okay. The best was the Chubby Ninja roll. Good but not worth the drive from our house.

Went on a Saturday night with a friend before a comedy show. The spot was pretty crowded with people inside and out. Trying to get my name on the waitlist was a bit difficult since they were busy. Ended up waiting an hour before we got seated. Ordered crispy spicy tuna appetizer, the chubby sashimi 20 pc, and a few rolls to make sure we'd be full. The sashimi was fresh and well presented. It was an interesting presentation with their number of pieces (rather than 2 pieces per fish). The chubby tuna roll was a bit soft that it made it hard to pick up the pieces. Needed a bit more structure of rice or something. Overall good experience. Just be prepared to wait.

Located in downtown Brea, Chubby Sushi & Ramen is a great addition to the city's growing and diverse food scene. If you do not make a reservation, you should get there early or prepare to wait for a table because this place is popular.Staff are friendly and fast. I sat at the sushi bar and got to experience watching the magic happen. The fish was fresh and the price was decent. I had the Chubby Chirashi Deluxe ($40) and takoyaki - both of which were good. They also offer fresh wasabi, which is a plus for me.There restaurant was not too loud and it was a good environment for casual dinner and seems to be a great place for a small group. Overall, it was a good experience and I would recommend to those in the Brea area.

After reading all the great reviews we drove 50 minutes with traffic to try this place. I was beyond excited as I called the restaurant (twice) to ask specifically what day they get fresh omakase box from Japan- as all the reviews said so I wanted to confirm. I was told on the phone they don't get it every Friday so I asked if they will be getting it this Friday- the guy said yes. Of course I booked a reservation for dinner. When we arrived the staff was very friendly and I am beyond excited at this moment. I asked about the omakase box and what the special is for today- he tells me that they don't always get it and have not gotten it in months. What!? Not what he said on the phone with me earlier that day. How disappointing I thought. I brushed it off and we ordered the chubby sashimi deluxe along with crispy rice with spicy tuna.Crispy rice with spicy tuna - pretty goodChubby deluxe - amazing presentation and as far as the sashimi itself it was borderline frozen and had no taste to it. Not even the soy sauce or the ponzu sauce had flavor- all tasted watered down which was odd. And as soon as you are done eating they want you out so they can sit the next group. I was definitely disappointed.

Good cuts, fair prices & overall good experience. I want to try the premium cuts from Japan next. I thought the staff was attentive and asked if I wanted to video the dry ice experience. It does add a little fun even though I'm not a fan of gimmicks like that. We celebrated a birthday and it felt special to her.

Let me start by saying that this place came highly recommended by a friend.I did not think my sushi was fresh. It had an old taste to it that did not make it pleasant - at all. On top of that, there were many gnats flying around our table. It was disgusting.Service was not that great either as 2 of us were served their food and had to wait 5 minutes for our friend to get hers. Speaking of hers, they forgot to bring her a bowl of rice that she had ordered, so we had to wait a bit longer for that.With so many sushi options around, I don't think I'll try this place again.

Ordered ramen and takoyaki via Uber eats and was very impressed. I can only imagine how much better it would taste if I ate the food fresh in the restaurant. First of all the packaging of the ramen was impressive. The container has a top portion for the solids and the bottom main compartment housed the broth. This way the noodles would not get soaked. Both items that I ate were delicious and I would definitely eat here again.

We had a great family outing at this sushi spot. The variety of sushi rolls and lunch specials we ordered were fresh and enjoyable. My favorite was the Mars Roll, which they customized to exclude crabmeat at my request--it was excellent. Mango roll was also awesome. The only downside was the teriyaki chicken, which we found bland and a bit like it had been boiled. Overall, though, it was a good experience, and we'd be happy to come back again.
