Popped in for a meal and drink after an afternoon getting some stuff done in downtown. It's the rooftop restaurant bar of the proper hotel. We didn't have reservations but the wait wasn't that bad. First checked in with the gentleman that was downstairs in the lobby. Took our name down and we waited in the seating area of the main restaurant downtown. Waited about five minutes. From there, we went up to the pool area where the hostess was right in front of the elevator to check us in. That was about another 10/15 or so. There's a bar area just inside which we grabbed a drink while waiting for our table. Even having a seat at the bar area, you get a view of the skyline of the city. But you can also, go over to the side where's more seating area and a fire pit. The weather was perfect so waiting for our table there was great. The view was beautiful with all the high rise building and apartments complex. Restaurant itself isn't that big and it's adjacent to the pool area. It's all outdoor open air. We got seated right across from the pool which was nice. Menu was limited but they have a good amount of signs that sounded great. We didn't know but when the food came out, portion wise in some dishes were pretty small. More tapas style meal. Tried the peri peri chicken which was nice. It basically chicken strips with dipping sauce. Wouldn't say it a full meal as that's basically what it comes with, chicken and sauce. The mushroom flatbread was good but literally the size of a little kids pizza. Clams, they were really good and the potion for that was nice. It had a good mixture with beans and chorizo I believe with bread for dipping. Also fires was nice as it did help filling you up. Good potion for that and we did notice that it was on majority of the everyone's table. Service was nice, friendly staff both with hostess and waitress/waiter. Cocktails also looked amazing but went with beer. There's no beer in tap, all canned. Overall, we have a nice experience. Restaurant was beautiful, the views were great. Also perfect for cocktails and enjoying the view.

I'd been curious about Cara Cara for awhile, so when a friend and I had tickets to a show at The Belasco around the corner, it was the perfect time to check it out. Unfortunately, I was left feeling a little disappointed. We had a reservation for 5:30 and were on time. We were told it would be at least 10 minutes for our table and to just wait in the bar area. When we were finally seated, we were given a small table right near the entrance, coincidentally the only one without a heater (it was about 55 degrees so it was chilly to say the least). Would have been nice to be seated closer to the perimeter so we could have a view. I ordered the cheese plate and my friend got the brisket tacos. Her tacos came out within 3 minutes (how were they cooked?). My dish was nowhere to be found. When the waiter came by about 10 minutes later, he seemed shocked that we didn't have it yet. Maybe the kitchen forgot to put it in? No real apology once it finally came out. I'd say it tasted fine, nothing super special or epic about it. Drinks are INSANELY expensive. One cocktail was $28. I know prices have gone up, but that's ridiculous. We stuck with Diet Coke. Overall, it's fine, but not a place I see myself needing to come back to.

Came here for my birthday last night for the first time and it was a wonderful. The hotel welcomes you with a warm entrance and this penthouse restaurant/bar itself is very cozy and chill with a fantastic view of Downtown all around. We tried their Dragones Old Fashioned cocktail and Mango Cider beer, the cocktail was boozy and citrusy and the cider was pleasant, both fantastic as we enjoyed with a scenic view on their porch seating where you can relax while waiting for your table. We went with their "Dine LA Dinner" option and got both appetizers; the White Trumpet Mushroom Focaccia (a pizza like dish with mushrooms, cheese and delicious sauce) and the Two Cheeses + Charred Dates (a charcuterie board with bread, goat and brie (I think) cheese, roasted orange peel and dates with marmalade and mixed nuts. Very pleasant. As well as the entrees: the Chipotle Cauliflower Tacos + Fried Brussels Sprouts and Hanger Steak + Herbed Fries. The steak was so tender and the fries so crispy, the Brussels Sprouts were to DIE for! So crispy and the sauce they come with just complements them so well..And both deserts. The Pink Lady Spiced Cake was my personal favorite if you love apples and caramel.Cory was very attentive and courteous, coming to check in on us often as well as helpful and insightful of explaining the menu options to us.Overall this is a scenic cool place to come have a drink and eat dinner with Downtown behind you.We had a lovely time and will definitely be returning to this little gem of a place.

I've been to Cara Cara a few times and never had a chance to review, but this time I decided to try their Dine LA menu. Before I write my novel of a review I will say that the food is very good, but I think the price point is a bit too high which makes me feel like you're mostly paying for the views and the overall dining experience. Really good drink menu and some good dishes but let's behonest here...Cara Cara has probably one if the most beautiful views in downtown Los Angeles. The view from the top of the proper hotel is absolutely stunning and makes for an unforgettable dining experience. It's something i'd highly recommend you do for a date especially if you're looking to impress and the check will certainly reflect that. Now for the food:I split the Dine LA experience with a friend and between the two of us we were able to order all but one dish. For starters we did the White Trumpet Mushroom Focaccia and the cheese board with dates, marmalade, walnuts and figs. These were the only options and both were great. I absolutely hate mushrooms, but once I pulled the visible ones off that mini pizza, I devoured it. It was so good and a great size. I will say I wish there was more cheese given to us on the cheese board, especially since there were great portions of all the accompaniments. All in all solid start. For main course we opted for the chipotle cauliflower tacos and the hanger steak. Tacos were seasoned really well and chipotle flavoring was not overpowering. It was a very balanced bite and I'd definitely have it again. The steak was mostly salad and fries and could've used more salt. Yes, I was splitting it with my friend but if I had ordered it as my sole main dish, I would've been disappointed by that portion size. Not bad at all, just could've been better. The tacos came with Brussel sprouts on the side which were cooked very well. Outside of the items we chose, I have tried the Branzino before and know it's delicious so even though we didn't order it this time, highly recommend. For dessert it was chocolate walnut cookies which were good....but were cookies so hopefully they were hard to mess up....and the pink lady spiced cake which came with some sort of crumbles and sea salt caramel Gelato on the side....and holy cow. One of the best things I've ever put in my mouth was that combination of cake and Gelato. I'm going to go back and just order that because wow. All in all, the food was fine. Dessert saved it. Service was great, view was fantastic and even though I think it was a bit overpriced for an underseasoned steak and a lot of vegetables, I'd do it again for that view and that cake. 4 stars. Could've been 3 but Gelato put me in a good mood lol.

I've been to Cara Cara a few times now with groups of friends and I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could. Creative cocktails, nice rooftop vibe with views of DTLA and decent dishes. High price tags, but comparable to other rooftop restaurants in the area. I kind of hoped they updated their menu, but it was the same as last year. It would be nice if they had a few breakfast items as well.I've had the Mini Lobster Rolls, Farmer's Market Lettuces and fries and they were good, but not spectacular. My friends liked the burger, Wagyu brisket tacos, Cobb Salad and Piri Piri Chicken. I'll have to try those items next time. For drinks, I've had bubbly and the Blackberry Velvet, which tasted more berry than gin. Friends got Night in Tulum (tequila-based), Blood and Smoke (mezcal-based), Cara Carillo (espresso martini) and Aperol Spritz, which they all seemed to enjoy.Depending on where you sit, you might have a server or you may need to order at the bar. The staff are attentive and accommodating, especially the ones running food and busing tables. A couple of my friends' orders were forgotten, but they eventually got their food after we all ate our dishes and they got comped for the mishap.

Beautiful rooftop restaurant with a great view of the city. Had a romantic Christmas dinner here before seeing babygirl starring Nicole Kidman with my unsuspecting husband Started with the night in tulum drink and the cheese and fig board which contained a lot of other delicious extras. Piri piri chicken was tender, fried strips unlike the traditional portuguese piri piri. Chorizo and clams were delicious and plentiful. So brothy with warm and crisp pieces of bread. The Brussels sprouts though had me moaning like I was babygirl herself. delicious, crispy fried Brussel shreds that I will be thinking about for a while

Been here a couple times and finally getting around to a review. Apologies for the delay. Cara Cara is such a wonderful little rooftop restaurant with great views of Los Angeles. Perfect for a couple photo ops should you desire We started with drinks, and the drinks are generally on point. I had the Liquid Gold, which I feel used to be better, with a more passion fruit forward flavor, but it was still good. For food, we began with mini lobster rolls, which actually had a nice amount of lobster meat, more then I expected. The seafood ceviche was really good, with chunks of scallops. As far as the entrees are concerned, they had a special Black and Blue burger, with blue cheese, that was tasty but could have used more blue cheese so you get that flavor with each bite. The wagyu tacos were ok, I was expecting something more to give it some pop so it stuck out, but that didn't happen. The hangar steak was cooked well and the seasoning on the outside wasn't bad. And the Piri Piri Fried chicken was really juicy on the inside with a nice crunch on the outside. I mean, hopefully that's the expectation with fried chicken, so it did its job. Overall, come for the views, come for the ambiance, come for the drinks, and definitely try a few food items but you can skip the wagyu tacos

Food (3/5): Pretty limited menu that has some diversity but the portion sizes are so disappointing. Dishes average over $25, including the starters! We had the seafood ceviche and while it did taste good with the concoction of octopus, shrimp, and scallop, you're guaranteed to be hungry after. The size I would say was as big as my palm. I had the Cara Cara Cobb and as someone who typically doesn't get salad, I was pleasantly surprised by the taste. The portions did make me feel appropriately full, but it was thanks to the added applewood bacon that gave the salad its desperately needed protein. I found it ridiculous to add protein the additional cost was $16-$20.... A $40 salad.... Really? Price (3/5): Over priced for the small quantity. Ambiance (5/5): Breathtaking views of LA. Such a great place if you want to impress someone. Very intimate and romantic place. Service (5/5): Wait staff were knowledgeable of their menu and made sure to clear plates in a timely manner. They were also very friendly and gave off a very warm aura.

We tried the Dine LA menu at Cara Cara located on top of the Prosper Hotel. The ambiance here with its spectacular view of Los Angeles is fantastic. Taking advantage of the view we ate outside on the patio. The Dine LA menu included a starter, an entree, and a dessert. For my starter I had the cheese and charred dates. A charcuterie board of creamy Roquefort, balanced with an aged white cheddar served with grilled dates and walnuts, sweet marmalade along with grilled sourdough bread. Absolutely my favorite kind of food. It's a large serving for one, definitely shareable. But I ate it up and almost didn't have enough room left for dinner. For my entree I chose the grilled branzino. A tender white fish grilled on a bed of rice, so good. My entree came with a side of broccolini which I took home. I almost didn't reheat and eat the broccolini the next day, am I ever happy I did. It was so delicious I could not believe how good it tasted. For dessert I ordered the spice cake. They have an extensive wine menu. I tried a white wine from Portugal, very nice. The service was excellent. This is a great place for a date night, a celebration, or just because you want a delicious meal with a great view.
