WOWZER!! We haven't been to Canters in ages and not much has changed. We went on a Friday night and didn't have to wait for a booth but parking is hard to find, especially on a Friday night. My hubby and I grew up in the area and grew up eating Canters so it was nostalgic going back and getting our grub on. My hubby and I went with the soup and half sandwich combo and an order of French fries (fat steak fries) and for the soup, of course Matzo ball!! I decided to go with the Turkey sandwich and my hubby went with the pastrami. We both thoroughly enjoyed our sandwiches and the ball in the matzo ball soup was huge (that's what she said). Our food came out pretty quickly too, and our server was super nice and has been working at Canters for 12 years. Like I said, not much has changed, the seats, the ceiling, the vibe, the food, all of it was the same. Oh, we also got some sweets on the way out, cheesecake and some cookies.

History practically seeps from the walls of this restaurant. We love diners, and this one feels like the real deal. The mid-century vibe, complete with colorful ceiling tiles, adds to its charm.Anytime my mom visited Los Angeles, this spot was a must on her agenda. She adored the bagel chips and always took a bag home with her. In her honor, I ordered the Avocado Melt sandwich with fries--she loved her sprouts and a good avocado. While the sandwich was a bit bland for my taste, a little hot sauce and ketchup did the trick.Prices have gone up since my last visit, but that seems to be the way of the world these days. That said, the service was excellent, and the free parking with validation is always a welcome perk.

Ambiance: it's a famous deli place located on Fairfax, there's a dedicated parking lot at the corner spot, 1.5 hours free parking for dine-in and half an hour for takeout and bakery, and you need to get validation at cashiers, very old fashioned decoration inside, dark lighting and old sofa couchesService: they are apparently understaffed, it took a while to get seated and another long wait to place the order, and server was forgetful and charged something on the bill not even ordered Food: variety choices on the menu and good for breakfast and brunch or anytime, since they open 24/7 for takeout MATZO BALL Bowl - *** Served with crackers, soft and tender ball, not much flavor PASTRAMI REUBEN - **** Grilled Pastrami, Swiss Cheese, Sauerkraut, and Russian Dressing on Grilled Rye, layers of flavors, recommend MONTE CRISTO - *** Oven-Roasted Turkey, Ham, and Swiss, Dipped in Egg and Grilled on Challah Egg, Bread with powdered Sugar, Served with Jam or Maple Syrup upon request, average taste THICK CUT STEAK FRIES - ** soggy texture BEER BATTERED ONION RINGS - *** average taste Price: moderate portions and acceptable quality, although overpriced and not quite worth the wait and hassle, expect $30+ per person

Thank you very much Jimmy for the wonderful service. This place is a gem and has been around for quite sometime. I highly recommend the Monte Cristo sandwich. It's perfect in every way and pairs well with a strawberry sauce. Their onion rings were delicious as well! I would pass on the Egg Cream soda, it tasted very diluted and not at all satisfying.

Currently at over 4.6k reviews, there's probably not a whole lot that I can add here that someone else hasn't said already. Canter's Deli is truly a historic establishment. Having been in Los Angeles since 1931, this is a restaurant I've always wanted to try, but never actually got around to doing so. So, when our neighbors invited us out to eat there just a few weeks ago, I was excited. To eat, I ordered the Half Sandwich Special, opting for Pastrami (sandwich) and Matzo Ball Soup, which I think was a couple dollars extra. The soup came first, and I was very impressed by both the flavor and quality. The pastrami sandwich did not disappoint, either. Everything I tried was delicious. I'd definitely recommend checking this place out if you haven't. The food is great, and the ambience/decor is memorable.

What I Ordered:-Matzo Ball Soup $10.95-Potato Pancakes (3) $10.50-Pastrami Reuben $21.95I wasn't sure what to expect from Canter's. However, I went in with zero expectations other than the expectation that it probably wouldn't be as good as Langer's. I always order a Matzo Ball Soup at a Jewish Deli. It's a must order! Regarding Canter's Matzo Ball Soup. It came to the table piping hot and with some saltines, which I always appreciate. I love putting the saltines into the soup, absorbing the broth, and eating them when they are all nice and soggy. It's an okay Matzo Ball Soup. It was pretty good, but not the best I've ever had. The Potato Pancakes are another must-order at any Jewish deli. It takes me back to my childhood. Some places make better ones than others. I can honestly say that Canter's makes better Potato Pancakes than Brent's, but Langer's makes the best potato pancakes of them all. I wouldn't order the Potato Pancakes here again. The Pastrami Reuben was pretty good. I thoroughly enjoyed it! The quality of Pastrami was pretty good, but not as good as other Jewish Delis that I've been to in LA. Take a look at my Jewish Deli rankings below. One of the waitresses recommended the potato salad as a must-order, but I felt like it was okay, a bit on the sweeter side, to my liking. Canter's has two main advantages. It is open 24/7, and it has a fully operating bakery. That's where Canter's beats the other Jewish Delis, in my opinion. Canter's doesn't have the best Reuben in LA, but it has the best Reuben you can order at 4 AM. Spilling out of the bar or club and going to Canter's for great food in the early morning hours seems like a pro move. I wouldn't know about that, as those days are over for me. Lastly, the service was very attentive. I was checked in on several times. Water, napkins, etc., were refilled several times. The service was spot-on! Jewish Deli Rankings1. Langer's2. Wexler's3. Brent's4. Canter's

We came here over the weekend again, on a Sunday late afternoon. It wasn't too busy, but there was a steady flow of people coming in. This time, I wanted to try the turkey salad but I was on the fence. The waiter said it was one of his favorites. He also said that if I didn't like it, he'd bring out something else. Well, that sold me, so I ordered it along with fries. It was delicious.Overall, we had no complaints and had a fun time dining at Canter's.

I love this place for the ambiance, history and of course the food. We came in on Saturday around 11:30am for breakfast and able to get seated right away on the bar side. I ordered the pancakes and sausage. The pancakes are always good and taste amazing. The 4 sausage links were good as well. Our server was very nice and sweet and she took excellent care of us with our needs. Parking was excellent because we were able to find a spot in the lot especially going before 12pm. Anytime after that is tough because when we were leaving, the parking lot was getting full. Thank you Canter's Deli for another great meal.

Started coming here when I was in my 20's but since I moved out of the area hadn't been here in quite some time. As I had to go to Cedar Sinai I decided to stop by on my way home. So glad I did. Place was just as I remembered. On one side the deli and the other side the bakery side. I placed my order and got 2 pastrami sandwiches with the Cole slaw and pickles. Sandwich was so tasty and rye bread was pillowy soft. I ate half and had the remainder for lunch the next day. Had to hide mine as the Mrs had never been here and told her so much about the place she loved the pastrami and ate hers the same day and was after my left over the next day. Place is a nice place to hang out with some friends and family and service was excellent. They have convenient parking right next door and place is open 24/7. If in the area stop by and give them a try. The menu is vast and all the food I have tried is great
