"This sandwich is worth the wait, and lives up to the hype! The owner is a super sweet queen and her staff is so friendly!! The sauce that comes with it makes you wanna lick all your fingers! go try her out!!"
"It's been sooooo long since I've been back because I moved, but I was in town today and had to make a detour. As always the wings were perfect and this time I got a side of their green sauce to dip my lemon pepper flats in and it was extremely delicious!! Cranberry coleslaw is as great as I remember too. Staff is very friendly and my order was piping hot when I showed up. Thanks again!!"
"Not one thing is bad here, people, vibes or food. I can't even show you my plate because unfortunately it didn't make it home. I got the red snapper dinner that comes with 3 sides, in which I chose collard greens, yams, and mac n cheese (my favorite in that order) and 2 cornbread muffins. Fish is crispy and made fresh to order, collards greens are sweet n tangy, yams are sweet with cinnamon and nutmeg on point, and mac n cheese is cheesy. And thank you lord the cornbread isn't dry! Behind the counter were 2 of the sweetest ladies! Tip them when you go because that food is made with love! Scheming now to figure out when I'm coming back!"
"Firstly, i would like to say how disappointed in myself for not leaving a review sooner. I have been to gumbo boys a few times and i promise you every time I go i feel a taste of NOLA, the food taste very authentic. I've only been to NOLA once but i tired sooo many good food and Gumbo Boys gives me those type of vibes. its a small restaurant and the food is cooked fresh so sometimes there is a wait but not out of control, if you don't have the time, call your order in , the owner provides amazing service. One of the must haves are the Boudin Balls with the remoulade sauce. the soft crab is delicious i need about 5 of them. if we can get some crabs in the gumbo that would be amazing but the gumbo is delicious. ( honestly) The Cajun The red beans and rice with corn bread and a side of cat fish is to die for. I can go on and on but i would like you all to give it a try. OH yeah the parking is a litter scares but it is a paid parking lot next door."
"I wish I remembered to take a picture but I CLEANED MY PLATE just now I had the blackened catfish with collard greens and my bf had the blackened snapper with the same side. Both came with very delicious cornbread. The men working the counter and grill gave great service.Great experience!!!"
"I've been going to Luv2eat for years so I was interested in trying this fast casual, more affordable option. This is a great alternative if you don't have a lot of time for a sit down dinner or looking for a more budget friendly meal. But best of all, the food is delicious! We got the 2 item combination ($15)- the pork belly and the curry chicken with bamboo. It looks like there's about 8-12 items to choose from (many vegetarian and some meat). Each combo comes with jasmine rice. The portions are not huge but just right for the price, and the food was super tasty, and I did not think it was too spicy. We also ordered the Zeed Noodles ($14), which we LOVED. They use to have this on the menu at the restaurant years ago so I was so excited to see this. It was really hearty and SOO GOOD! I'm definitely coming back very soon just to have this noodle bowl again! So glad to have this fast, friendly and affordable meal option now!"
"Found out about this location a few months ago on a trip with friends down to Pasadena. Was really surprised to see they opened up a second location in the area, but really happy about it because I don't like braving the drive and wait time at the Chinatown location.I'd say the wait here is comparable to the Chinatown location, if not marginally better. They have a pretty limited parking lot considering how many people actually come here to eat, but I appreciate that they have a dedicated lot at all versus the Chinatown location where you default just have to pay for parking. Here, if the lot is full, you can find free street parking pretty quick nearby. Is the wait still worth it for the food? Yes. YESSSS. This place is my favorite hot chicken sandwich place ever. There's no contest. The wait can get kind of ridiculous, so do try to either come with friends or come during off hours. I got The Sando and fries both times. The Sando is pretty much perfect. My husband got The Sando 2.0, but...I don't like all the additional toppings, I think it distracts and detracts from the perfection of the spicy chicken flavor, to be honest. And my husband agreed with me. Their fries are really good too! Great crispy crunch and a nice, fluffy inside. Good spice as well. Also, medium is like a hot at other places. Their hot is like HOT. My husband keeps getting hot every time and underestimating how hot their hot actually is lol. I think their medium is perfect actually, although probably a tad to hot for most people. They also have sparkling water on tap!!! Whoever made that decision is galaxy-brained. It's cold, crisp, perfectly bubbly. S-tier. Thank you for having this. I got so excited the first time I saw it. I wish more places had sparkling water as an option. I choose it over plain water everytime.Service is EXCELLENT!!! Really friendly, helpful, prompt and attentive staff. S-tier customer service.Sometimes they have a waitlist for the seats when it's crowded, so be aware sometimes you may not be able to just sit down. They'll have you give your name and party size to one of the employees that'll come and fetch you when a table frees up. I wonder if there's a way that they can signify this to customers? I made the mistake with my group by just sitting down at a table on our first visit, and have seen many parties do the same on my first and second visit. Will definitely be back!! I really wish they'd open up other locations in different areas (Cerritos!!!). I would legit probably never go to another spicy chicken sandwich place than Howlin Ray's if I had one nearby fjkdhgkdjrtgird."
"over the weekend I had the pleasure of visiting gotta have it grill and when I say not only was the food amazing the customer service was great. I am a chef myself and this food was perfectly prepared not overly seasoned or salty but seasoned to perfection with flavors through and through. I had the fried salmon and honey hot wings mac&cheese and greens we also had the fried shrimp and lemon hot wings. I can't wait to come back and try the spaghetti and catfish We drove all the way from Palm Springs to try this place out and it gets 10/10 from this Chef fyi: dine in and relax or call ahead ...because this is not fast food great food takes time thanks"
"5 stars for food but 2 on service/attention to detail. A family member brought me here for lunch. It was late morning and the place was quite busy. We almost had to wait for a table but then squeezed into some seats in between 2 groups. The ambiance wasn't much, pretty bare bones - the basic look that have you expecting the food to be delicious. Once seated, the Server came out with menus and ice waters. I ordered the oxtails with no sides and no gravy. I later added 2 eggs over easy. While we were waiting for our food, a table opened up and we began to move to that table. The Server told us that we couldn't have it as a couple had been waiting for that table. However, that couple had arrived before us and had placed to go orders. The gentleman had to correct the Server and then we were allowed to take the table. The food came out quickly. My order was was correct and my family's just had too many biscuits. The oxtails were well seasoned and delicious. I was definitely quite pleased.Later the bill arrived and was given to my family member. They quickly noted that we were charged for more meals than we had ordered. They pointed this out to the Server who took the ticket back to correct it and brought it back with a "my bad". When my family went to pay, they said that it still wasn't right and the cashier had to correct the bill again. Hopefully, the Server was just having a one-off bad day but otherwise my oxtails were good and I would order them again."
"OH MY GAD!!! Is all I have to say.... The food is BOMB! You can either order to go at the walk up window or dine in!! Nothing negative to say about Dulan's!!! Portions are more than enough you will not go home hungry and we will definitely have take home food!! I highly suggest you order the lunch special it comes with the main dishes, 2 sides and 2 cornbreads!! We ordered: Fried fish, rice and greens beans/carrots. Words do don't express the flavors throughout the dish. Oxtail, rice/gravy & collard greens. My bf said it definitely didn't disappoint.Smothered chicken, mac & cheese, candy yams. Another satisfied customer!!! Seriously you cannot go wrong with anything you order!!! 1000% must try while your in the Los Angeles area!! Enjoy your experience!!"

First time here. Wanted to upload the menu and the face of the store. Every day they have different specials so what's on the menu might not be what they have for the days great variety of food and drinks. Onto Service: Service was quick and the person at the counter was helpful. He was very knowledgeable and had a great amount of recommendations for the day. Quick and easy to order. Food: Took about 10 minutes. Food came out really nice and hot. Smells great and the catfish is well seasoned, has a great taste, and there's a good balance between the fish and the breading. The Mac and cheese is cheesy, rich and creamy. The drink is refreshingly sweet and paired well with the catfish. They have a few tables outside and everything is nice and clean.I reallly enjoyed my meal and I hope to be back soon.

This is honestly my favorite place to get wings at. I usually always doordash it for the most part; the lemon pepper is so delicious, I miss it when they had the wet sauce option cause I would get it on the side. The garlic parmesan is also really good but I prefer lemon pepper. The fries are so good as well, my fav is obviously the lemon pepper and it's a huge portion. Another mention has to be the ube brownie yummmm.I wanna try their other food besides the wings and I'll do that next time (: the patty melt looks really good haha.I remember the place being fairly small, it's more ideal for a grab and go rather than a sit down type. The worker was really nice when I went, they always gave me a couple extra pieces of wings.

I've been enjoying Gumbo Boys ever since they sold food on a humble table on the sidewalk off 6th or 7th streets. This was about 3+ years ago. Now they have a whole store front!I was sad when the table setup disappeared off 6th street. Never knew what happened to the Gumbo Boys.... and long and behold I search for cajun food on Yelp today and find out that they opened a whole store front!! Wow!!The food was really superb back then so I was curious to see how it measures up now that they have a dedicated restaurant with a kitchen.I ordered the seafood gumbo and the red beans. Both were amazing!!! Just how I remembered it from back in the day when they sold both items on a very humble table off the street. I noticed that the Jambalaya is missing on the menu!!! I totally suggest that Gumbo Boys bring it back!! It was amazing also. Same fellow cooking and serving the food! There is no beating around the bush.... the restaurant is not in the best area of town. People from out of town or first timers in the area should most definitely exercise caution after the sun goes down. From very humble beginnings to a store front: I can't use enough words to recommend this cajun kitchen... it is really a treat and I strongly recommend it! I will be returning very soon!!!

Was at the Grove to grab lunch and was craving some Gumbo. Opted for the Gumbo Ya Ya. A "spicy" chicken gumbo with shrimp and Andouille sausage. This includes cornbread and a salad with toasted pecan dressing. The gumbo? Was pretty flavorless for gumbo and I did not find it spicy (and I'm pretty sensitive to spiciness). I have a feeling that it was much better in years past. Cornbread and salad were fine, but not good enough for me to come back for.

"Yum yum and yummy. Visited today for breakfast. Enjoyed the food. I wish they had waiters, but I get it. The side heater exploded near us. I'm extra! the glass shattered. No one was hurt while eating. Thank you for the quick clean."
"My BF found this good little chicken spot on IG and we decided to come check it out. Do you see how BIG that chicken sandwich is?! Honestly, I thought it was going to be another chicken sandwich spot that wasn't good. But when I took a bite into that sandwich, my mouth exploded with so many flavors! Wow! The chicken was not too fried, it has this delicious honey, a hint of spicy sauce all over the chicken. The bread was soft and even the cole slaw. Just everything together was great! Good thing we shared that sandwich. We also got some other great items like the corn ribs! That was so good! Definetly recommend this! Taste like elote and the corn is cut up in strips. I can't wait to come back again whenever I am craving for some chicken sandwich. However, parking is street only and could be difficult to find especially during traffic time. Staff were friendly and helpful to help us order since it was our first time!"
"This is what I call flavor of the south ! From Miami all the way to Los Angeles, House of wings is bringing that real southern heat. Really glad I found this wing spot here on the west coast. They have a few locations throughout Miami so seeing them here in Los Angeles made my weekend. I highly recommend them if you haven't tried them already. The service is quick to perfection just like the flavor , they will definitely spark up the place no matter the ambiance. Congratulations on bringing the heat to west coast ! I only regret I have is not ordering more wings! Thank you once again!!!"
"Been awhile since I have been to Honey's. But out with my boss and he wanted to try a new place he had never been, so brought him here. I have been trying to eat healthier and avoid fried foods as much as possible. But of course I had to get down when I was here and eat their delicious fried chicken!I got the 3 piece meal, that comes with 3 pieces (your choice) of their honey fried chicken, fries, their famous buttermilk biscuits and pickles. OMG I am in heaven.Their chicken has a very light crust on it and super crispy, flavor is amazing! Their Buttermilk biscuits are huge, buttery with honey, could eat a few if they weren't such big. Fries had nice seasoning and perfectly cooked. They give you a few pickles in the side as well. Needless to say, I ate it all and wished I had more. Did not need to eat it all, but it was too good to stop.Service is quick, you walk up tot he counter and order and then listen for them to call you to pick it up, easy and quick. The decor inside is down home, warm and welcoming. Some old signs on the wall, a giant kettle in a brick fireplace and plenary of spots to sit inside and outside.Enjoy."
"tldr: Very good DineLA deal. Great take on Fried Chicken & Waffles. I would love to come back and branch into the rest of their menu.--Food & Drink- 4.5/5I ordered the DineLA lunch special with a non-alcoholic drink.Pineapple FizzExcellent. Not too acidic like many other pineapple drinks. Fizz (egg whites) gives it great texture and the garnishes contribute an herbal fruitiness to the pineapple aroma. For an $8 mocktail, this slapped. Much better than most other alcoholic drinks you'll get a high-end bar.Deviled EggsMore on the mustard side but perfectly airy texture with nice touch of paprika and roe. I liked how they served it on top of extra filling in case I wanted more.Fried Chicken And WafflesServed with a side of bourbon maple syrup and hot sauce. The syrup had a taste of bourbon but without the alcohol bite which makes me wonder if they used a bourbon flavoring rather than real bourbon. And the hot sauce was very very mild - as in you could pour a ton on without making it even a bit spicy. The dish was also served with a garnish of watermelon which was cubed then covered in the same hot sauce as far as I can tell. Giving it a bit of flavor and removing some of the natural sweetness watermelon usually has. Not bad, kind of unique to be honest, but I am not sure what purpose this garnish adds to the overall dish. Now onto the main part... the chicken and waffles. The Chicken juicy with standard southern style breading and either pounded or butterflied into a flat cutlet similar to a schnitzel (most of the volume is the breading). Solid fried chicken but not so exceptional, especially compared to the waffle...The Waffle was great and particularly very unique. Texturally it reminded me of a mochi waffle with a creamy flavor. I believe they put cheese in it (along with some herbs) to achieve this effect. To me, it was reminiscent of a cheese biscuit which also tastes amazing with fried chicken.Overall, I love the creativity in this interpretation of Fried Chicken and Waffles with the waffles imitating a cheese biscuit. When combined the chicken and waffles with the sauces, however, I think the bourbon flavor got lost and tasted like generic pancake syrup and the hot sauce wasn't spicy enough to add much except a bit of acidity. To me, it was just as good with or without the condiments. So if you're trying to save calories, I may avoid putting either on.Deep Fried OreoI really enjoyed this. They used something that reminded me of rice krispies or corn flakes as the breading which provided a complementary sweetness to the chocolatey Oreo. They Oreo itself had been a bit soft (soggy) but this is what allowed it to blend in texturally with the soft breading.--Ambiance - 5/5Very clean and well maintained with Modern rustic decor. Lots of hidden chickens around which I certainly appreciate :) --Service & Experience - 5/5Sat at bar Friday, Jan 31st around 1PM. Restaurant tables were mostly empty but the bar was mostly full.Bartender was very attentive and clearly competent in his role. I asked for the DineLA menu, selected my choices. And within about 5 minutes, I received the appetizer deviled eggs. Fried Chicken and Waffles came around 120. And perfectly timed as I finished that, Fried Oreos came around 135 for dessert.Side note: there was a customer who walked in perhaps a bit beligerant (insisting to order alcohol without presenting ID) and the bartender handled it impeccably so major props to him for that.--Detailed ThoughtsOne of the better DineLA deals I've ever had. So much yummy food, especially at an affordable price for one person. Would love to come back, branch into the rest of their menu, and try more of their drinks."
"This restaurant needs to close it's door's. I have never had a restaurant identify as SOUL FOOD, but serve you horrible food out of a can. If you've never been, I suggest you don't waste your time. I ordered a catfish meal and paid for a few extra sides and it was a complete waste of my money. The potato salad tasted horrible, like a 3 year old made it. The yams were undercooked and looked like it was right out of a can. My fish was not fried crispy like a requested, instead it was falling apart and soft. I was beyond annoyed. I called back and explained that my food was not cooked properly and the preparation was horrible, and I was told I should have checked my order and looked at the fish before I left. Then said thank you and slammed the phone down. Never offered to refund me my money or even a portion of it. Or at the very least could have offered to discount my next visit (although I'm never going back there again) as a kind gesture. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. You'll be highly disappointed."
"Very good southern food including fried chicken here at Dare U To Care Grill/Golden Bird. It's a combination of a southern food restaurant and a Golden Bird fried chicken franchise, located on Western Ave and 149th in Gardena. The oxtails are my favorite. They have delicious smothered pork chops, meatloaf and turkey. Their gravy is tasty! I also had the turkey chops, which I should have ordered with that gravy. The fried chicken is very good, and you can occasionally get it on special -- I've been there twice on Sundays when they've had a 2-piece special with fries for $2.99. I've also seen a bbq special on weekends. The turkey dinner I had was also a Sunday special, it included a big wing on top of a bed of stuffing, two sides and a bit of cranberry sauce. The sides are fine, I liked the mac n cheese, string beans & potatoes, potato salad, red beans, black eyed peas, corn and collard greens.During these Covid times the small dining room is closed, everything is to go. Social distancing and masks are enforced, and there's hand sanitizer if you need it. You can wait outside for your order, it usually around 15-20 minutes, but a lot of folks call their orders in advance for pick-up. Parking is easy, non-metered street parking readily available plus there's a small parking lot behind the business.Dare U To Care Grill is owned by the same folks who operate the Dare U To Care substance abuse facilities around LA. The restaurant helps support the work of the care centers. You can eat well and support a good cause while you're at it. Ok"
"Very clean and friendly service. Chicken is made to order amd thé crust is almost tempura like. Shatters when you bite into it. It's good, but does leave an oily film on your tongue. The chicken tenders were also a bit dry (but that happens at most places). The cornbread muffin is tasty and so were the red beans. The noodles for the Mac and cheese were over cooked and the cheese was on the bland side. Cabbage tasted like thé exterior of a cabbage roll and a good flavor. Solid eats."
"There exisits in Los Angeles a severe lacking of truly good soul food. There exists a very few in fact, and there is actually just two of them, Harold and Belles, Stevies on Pico and CW chris and fish, and what Moms BBQ used to be before they closed :( as well as the only other way to get truly flavorful soul food , is to a family who happens to be black, or Caribbean and you are invited to their home. The equivilent of the latter is Annies Soul delicious. This place is like all those mixed together. Annies, is the starting point where, if you have a Carlton, or a Uncle Ruckas in your family and you NEED to get the Black slapped back into them, you start here. I partook in the smothered chicken platter. One bite and the whole place slowed down. As Barry White massaged me with his smoooth vocals, two gorgeous beautiful nude women caressed me and cradled me. Then Prince himself slapped me in the face and said UHHHH and bought me back to reality It was a more vidid and beautiful expereince akin to what Anton Ego expereiened when eating the Ratatoullie in the film. Truly an epitomy of the song, You dropped a bomb on me. I came back a second time for the chicken and cannot wait to finally try the Gumbo, and red beans, because if their sides (especially their greens) make you have a spirtual orgy with Barry White, Prince and Rick Jame's girls, then I cannot imagine nor wait for the spirttual journey that will encounter when I have their gumbo and red beans beacause I know for a FACT little Richard and Randy Rhoads will be there as well. !!! Because as Rick James says, if cocaine is a hell of a drug then Annies is the PREMEIR brand of cocaine!!!"
"Southern Food is delicious. Service has always been great. It's a nice restaurant i always dress up to go because it's a special experience."
"Food was amazing! We ordered take out for a party of 12. Not a single complaint. Fish, chicken, sides, everything was in point."
"Love this place so much. Grew up in this neighborhood and this was an all time fav place. Their spicy chicken and rice has never let me down. Recently came back to visit and had to grab a bite. Juicy, flavorful and crispy chicken. Rice hit the same as it did back then."
"Brunch review. The food is delicious. The portions are small. The prices would be fair if the portions were larger. The shrimp and grits portion doesn't even cover the full bottom of the already small bowl. It's like two spoons' worth of grits. Are they good - SO VERY! But for two tablespoons of grits, 5 nuggets of catfish, 1 scrambled egg, and 1 piece of bacon - $29 just doesn't sit well in my spirit. I'm not even no cheap ass patron - I will pay! But I should've been more full than I was after eating that food. This isn't me being greedy - this is just not equitable. My server, Reagan was THE BEST! Shout to Reagan!"
"Wow !! Great food , if you like spicy this is the place. The staff is friendly and helpful. They are great at gauging how hot is too hot . It's a small place , easy to miss . If you can't find street parking not to worry there is parking behind the restaurant."
"The chicken sandwich was worth it. I didn't care for the "hot" level as I found it to be too overwhelming with chili powder to a point where it changed the texture to mush and it wasn't very spicy just kind of nasty. The chicken tenders were great, mild or medium is fine. Don't bother with the chicken wings, they shouldn't be on the menu as they were very mid. Overall the chicken sandwich is the move. Customer service is good they know what they're doing. Double up on the wet wipes per each person as it gets sticky and messy and there aren't any restrooms. If you can't find a seat at the bench, there are some casual seats on a nearby planter bit in the center. Parking is a paid, but at least it's everywhere."
"I tried A Family Affair after friends/family tried it and loved it. I ordered from DoorDash and picked it up. I was surprised when entering to see the interior housed a butcher shop, grocery area, liquor store and restaurant in one. There were a lot of local residents stopping in for lunch; definitely a popular spot. I ordered the catfish dinner with greens and Mac/cheese. The food was a bit salty but was seasoned so well. I typically prefer to make soul food at home but this is a decent spot for LA."
"Omg!!!!! I'm soo glad I decide to try heir oxtail tacos!I have heard about their restaurant a while ago in NPR and have been wanting to try since. I have only tried their oxtail taco and one of the sweet treat but oh boy! This taco was to die for! It was soooo heavenly good. Their sauce and tender meat and everything. Their hot sauce gave a really good kick and works well with taco. You have to try their oxtail taco if you are in neighborhood. You won't be sorry!"
"the perfect choice for southern cooking. i loved my wings and fries!!! its a must try!!!! get the wings or the gator nuggets"
"Joyce has been on my list for a while, and I'm so grateful that I was finally knock it off of my list with my dear coworker friend. The restaurant opens at 5pm for dinner, so we were just about the first people there. But it did start to fill up later in the evening, so I recommend making a reservation for any day of the week. The interior was beautifully decorated for Christmas and felt very cozy. It was very festive and I loved the close attention to detail in their decorations, like the Christmas train on the table! It felt very welcoming! Our server was attentive and checked in on us appropriately. We didn't try their Christmas cocktails but did order a few of their food items:- Peruvian scallops (4) - they were ok, slightly disappointing. I found it a bit bland, a touch of sea salt might've brought out the flavors more - cast iron Mac and cheese ($21) - for the price, I expected delicious cheese flavors, and yes, that's what I got. It was a fancy Mac and cheese with generous cheesy flavors cooked and melted properly. It met my expectations. - Maple butternut squash - I know it has 'maple' in the name but it was overwhelmingly sweet for me. First bite was delicious, then after several more bites, I was kind of over it.- Blue crab gratin - this was probably my favorite dish. I liked the home-made crunchies that came with it, and it was a nice texture between the gratin and the crunch. - Beignets - these were piping hot when they came out. It came with tres leches dip and jam, I personally liked the jam more! These were quite generous in portions, so definitely share-worthy. It was a nice paring with my espresso, which adorably was served to me in a festive Santa (who unfortunately had a chipped nose!)Overall, it was a lovely dining experience with my friend. The interior's festive decoration really made this place feel cozy and heart-warming. I'll likely come back here a second time if they change up their menu a bit."
