Broken Engrish

One of the best finds in Studio City / Universal City area. I wish their dining room was open, but the takeout was great. Food is reasonably priced and super tasty. The gluten free options are many and the staff was knowledgeable about the options too.

Welcome to the neighborhood! Clever name, delicious food! So here goes.... Hubby and I were driving by and saw a hand written sign "Broken Engrish" Delicious Taiwanese Food" where the old "Vege-ta-ble's sign still hung outside, we smiled at the clever name and made a mental note to come try them out. Two days later, we couldn't wait to try it, as we walked in their doors, new sign outside, open for business, we met Chef and Proprietor Jerry Yu. This one man operation that day took our order, made great suggestions and even gave us some extra bites to try! You can tell they took their time to figure out the menu. From crispy skirt potstickers to stinky tofu (haaaaaaa!) this menu yelled to be explored. And so we did...APPS:We tried the smashed cucumber salad, delish and with a kick. Marinated seaweed made me a believer, I wouldn't have thought seaweed could be this tasty. The blistered shishito peppers came with a cravable yummy sauce, and the slow-cooked peanuts are a total must-try. #IYKYK. ENTREES:We had the Dan Dan Noodles, GF, with the most delicious toasted sesame & peanut sauce I've ever had and great rice noodles imported from Taiwan. Simply a must try. I will have this again and again. So much so that it deserves its own paragraph. Next was the Braised Minced "Pork" on rice. A fantastic tasting dish, where you won't miss the meat. (Did I mention this place is vegan?)And Yum. For now they are only take out and delivery, no dine in, but they await their permit, hopefully by this fall. Broken Engrish does not disappoint. Awful. And they advertise as a restaurant but its take out only. The dishes we ordered were so underspiced it was almost zero. Anf it was almost all noodles. When you walk in all the fur iture is standing by the door as if they are getting ready to leave town. They should.

This place was great! We ordered several items from the menu and each of them were great. Service was quick and friendly. Already planning to go again!

Truly disappointing in every way imaginable. As another review mentioned this is NOT Taiwanese or Chinese fusion, it's a soggy, tasteless zombie impersonation with non of the spices or texture that you'd hope for. We make better tasting and less mushy Jackfruit at home for 1/10th the price and the peanut sauce was both overly sweet and metallic at the same time. Impressive, but not in a good way. We really had high hopes when this place popped up, the neighborhood could always use more great vegan options and we love Taiwanese but this ISN'T IT. You'd think the name would be the offensive aspect of this place, but no, it's 100% the food. AVOID!

Wow. That name's not offensive. On another note, have you tried "Pine and Crane" or "Din Tai Fung." I bet their food is far superior than this offensively named place.

Love this food, it's always great and the owner is a really nice person. Additionally, it's a great place to see Boba Fett with an apron :).

I walked in and was greeted by a very rude employee. I think he was the owner. He was rude and seemed like he didn't want to answer my questions about the food. It was a dirty and dingy place. There was lots of broken glass in the rear parking and made it very scary getting my kids out of my car. The pricing was very high. Between the terrible service, damp, dark environment and horrible upkeep, i decided to leave and get food elsewhere. You need to do better, a smile goes a long way.

A very terrible restaurant, all the work where I work, without rubber gloves, is very dirty.

"Beef" noodle soup- All the flavor and none of the cholesterol! Guilt free and so tasty. Even the noodles themselves were flavorful. Mapo tofu waffle fries - silken tofu melts in your mouth over crispy waffle fries. It's the perfect combination!! Pineapple drink and apple cedra brought back childhood memories of Taiwan.
