I love on. Encounter Island but have been coming to Atwater village to visit for 3 years now and this is my first stop at Astro. I've heard mixed reviews and I do t eat out much because of the exchange rate (the canadian dollar is current 40% less than the US dollar.But I was running some errands on foot and I thought why the heck not? I've eaten enough salads and washed enough dishes this week.I actually missed the door when trying to get in my several feet and walked around the entire building. I was cursing them but then found the walk way in and it made me happy to be there.It's what people before me have said. Diner food. Is it the best I've ever had? No. The worst? Not by a long shot. I ordered poached eggs with cheese sauce. A little hot sauce on top and it was actually pretty yummy. Everything was blandly seasoned but I get that as everyone has different tastes. It reminds me of the jewish delis I used to go to back in Toronto where everyone is a regular.I will say the staff is the reason why I have this a full star review. The ladies who brought me to my table and the one who took my payment at the end, and the gentleman who took my order (I sat at the counter) were beyond lovely. Plus staff were joking around with customers they obviously knew well.It made me wish I lived here so I could be a regular. Very warm atmosphere and I really enjoyed my visit!

First let me say how excited my husband & I were to try this place. We love diners. We came in, not greeted, l was Told to grab some menus & sit ourselves, sat for 15 min, no one ever came over. It was not busy at all. We read over the menu, and decided that this place was so incredibly over priced that we left. So a cup of vegetable soup & 1/2 BLT (that's it, that's all you got) was $16.95. Sodas were $4 and only had 1 refill. Most meals were over $20 for diner foods. The meals only came with 1 starch. Soup/salad/veggies were all and additional cost and starting at $6. The steak sandwich was $29 and came with FF. The prices for all the food were more like fancy steak house prices. That being said....we left. Now I understand how prices have gone up on everything and maybe had we had any service at all, we probably would have eaten something. I just want ppl to understand how much you will pay out of pocket to eat here. I hope this warning helps ppl like us who aren't rich but looking for a hot reasonably priced good meal.

I've loved Astro since 1989. For eggs and burgers it's difficult to do better. Lovely staff, comfy booths, dependably open. Three things are ruining this establishment,1. The 24/7 blaring television 2. Antiquated ingredients 3. Their delivery is just awfulI carefully selected a custom omelette that looked like shit on a shingle See image. My companion ordered the ever dependable burger which had the lettuce and tomato on hot side of bun. Details matter when you specialize in just two things.

I've been coming to Astro for over 20 years and I'm so glad they are surviving. I love the Googie architecture, it reminds of better times in Los Angeles. The food and service has always been fine to me. It's diner fare and it's good, I've never had a problem. It's part of the pantheon of old school diners in L.A., that are not part of a chain. My favorite dish has always been their chilaquiles, but I recommend Astro definitely for breakfast. I'm glad they have refurbished the back room as well, as I wasn't crazy about the carpet that was there before. I haven't sat back there yet, since they updated, but hope I will soon.

Came in for a late lunch on a weekday and there was plenty of seating. We specifically came in wanting breakfast foods, and found Astro's had all-day breakfast. The diner felt clean and ambiance was really cozy and nice. The staff was really sweet and we felt well taken care of.This was the perfect spot to fulfill our desire for a cozy, classic breakfast. Our food was prepared well and straightforward, no complaints. I'm hoping to come back to try one of their dinner items someday. There's a large parking lot, but admittedly the intersection the restaurant is located on can be a bit of a mess depending on where you're coming from haha.

My bf and I have been coming since we started dating and absolutely love this place. He orders the Astro Burger and I get the Brussels Breakfast and it's always so amazing. They have the best waffles I've ever had! The staff is always super friendly and service is fast. It's usually empty when we go but even when it's busy, the service is fast. My only issue is that you only get one free refill but I don't drink a lot so it's not an issue for me. My bf usually has to take an extra drink though.

Well I've seen the glory days of this spot, and we aren't there anymore. Astro is a victim of its location I feel. An old diner that is tough around the edges. Food was good and service was nice. Bathroom completely graffiti filled and smelled questionable. Booths have some tips and tears in the seats. All in all, if you are coming here for food, you won't be disappointed, but you won't be inspired.
