I'm a big fan of Thai food but I decided to try to find some actually authentic Thai cuisine in LA. There's a lot of restaurants to choose from but Amphai definitely is one of the best. It's a hole in the wall kind of place, with minimal seating, but those are always the tastiest places. The food is so flavorful and tastes actually very authentic. My friend has been to Jitlada before and she said that Amphai is way better than it. She's also from Southeast Asia so I definitely think that the flavors here are more authentic.Service was really sweet. The lady at the counter kept on checking in on us and offering us water, even asking if it was too spicy. I really appreciated the fast service and this is definitely one of the top spots to check out in LA!

Tried this whole in the wall Northern Thai spot and had a very positive experience. The restaurant is set up as more of a take-out spot, but did have a few available tables to dine at. This is a very no frills ambiance with great service. Below is what I tried:Khao Soi - 4 Stars. This is one of my favorite northern Thai dishes. The rendition here is quite good, especially the tasty egg noodles.Pad Thai Noodles - 4 stars. A little in the oily side, but rich in flavor and a generous portion of shrimp.Egg Rolls - 4 1/2 stars. Tasty, crispy, and full of flavor. All in all this was a pretty good spot, though next time I'd probably just get take out and not eat there. Metered parking was easy to find as the parking lot was full.

Oh wow, what a gem.Khao Soi (4.5/5): I am usually pretty picky but northern Thai killed it! Chicken is tender, soup is flavorful, I just wish there are a little bit more than half togo container of soup that's about itTam Kha noon (4/5): first time having jackfruit salad, definitely an interesting taste but I like it a lot! Looking forward to trying more items from here

I downed a khao soi gai after a little hike at Griffith. I don't make it out into this area of LA very often so this was the only placed I had saved (recommended by a friend). The chicken was fall-off-bone tender and clung onto the coconut curry super well. The type of noodles weren't my personal favorite but I definitely know people who like the egg noodle texture. The fried noodles they give you in the bag are SO delicious in the soup!! You will not regret trying it and the price point is pretty solid too!!

Google Translate told me 'Amphai' means "Bright" or "Pretty." I have a hunch that this superlative is used to describe a state of mind, or a sense of the sublime, more so than a physically appealing image, but what do I know?Bill Addison, the very boring Bill Addison of the L.A. Times, brought this place to my attention. I owe you, Bill. And Mark Wiens, everyone's favorite bug eyed YouTuber has visited. Having come here three times over the course of 18 months, I've noticed the clientele becoming less homogenous. These guys surely helped. The cozy dining room features a mural of a Thai fishing and rice farming village and a steam table of the offerings. First on the menu is the khao soi gai: egg n wheat noodles in yellow curry, a side of condiments to be added at your discretion. You want to show no discretion and dump everything, raw shallots, fried noodles, pickled cabbage, chili oil, and lime, into your bowl. The khao soi gai is served with a chicken leg. This can present some logistic challenges, but still, go with the chicken over the beef option (khao soi nua). Chicken is more suited to the flavors of the dish. The jackfruit salad, tum kha noon wins the award for the most delicious thing on the planet. Nominally a salad, it is nonetheless served hot. They boil, pound, then wok fry the jackfruit while young and before sugars have developed. Garlic, lemongrass, kaffir leaf, and chili join it in the wok. The heat, funk, savoriness, and freshness transcend any mere eating experience. Tom kha gai is fine, and more acidic than you'll find at other places.

Nothing brings back home memories like home cooking. As a kid, family gatherings were around the kitchen table filled with authentic northern Thai dishes freshly made by my entire extended family. There were gaeng hung lay, gaeng ho, sai oua, tom kha noom, larb moo kua, nam prik noom, nam prik ong, som tom boo, pat boong, tom makhua and lots of sticky rice. This place...is like a second home to me. So this year, instead of turkey for Thanksgiving, I ordered a bunch of takeout for a Thai Thanksgiving dinner.

Great authentic northern thai food. I believe the owner is from Chiang Mai too. Came on a Friday morning and got seated right away. Service is fast and you get your food shortly after ordering. The khao soi tasted amazing and components were similar to thailand's. It had a kick of spice already so the extra spice wasnt needed. One thing i like about this restaurant was that a bowl of khao soi only costed $11 when other places charge around $15-$17.The only downside here is the parking. Small parking lot in a plaza. I got lucky and snagged a spot but on other days might have to look for street parking.

Cozy, yummy Thai food and very sweet staff! The Khao Soi really hit the spot on a slightly chilly evening, and it was probably the best that I've had in the US. I'd never had Sai Oua before but I enjoyed it - the herbs gave it strong flavor and the texture was great. The recommended jackfruit salad was hearty and well-balanced, and it almost tasted like meat. I don't think I'd get the egg roll or Pad Thai again (we got the latter to go): they were good but not outstanding, and there are still more things on the menu I want to try. The store is small and cozy, with seats for maybe 16 or so people. Overall, the food is simple in a very yummy way, and the prices are super reasonable. Would happily return!

Veggie forward pad see ew which was nice. The noodles had a strange thing going on with them. Felt like they were cooked inconsistently. The flavor is good. The beef was good.(We were taste testing several pad see ews)
