The absolute best. I've been going here since I was a kid and still absolutely love it. Tonight's meal consisted of their "crack" ground beef tacos...seriously amazing. $16.99 for 2 tacos and rice and beans; it's a healthy portion, for sure. The girls had their go-to, the chicken gorditas. The boy had the shrimp quesadilla (with mango!).And the piece de la resistance...the "Skinny Cadillac Margarita, Straight-Up"...seriously the best drink they have absolutely perfected.

Decided to try someplace new, ventured up the hill to the Original Red Onion, lots of parking, friendly staff, fast service good food, what else can you ask for? Not much...Started off with a cup of chicken tortilla soup, very rich and flavorful, stuffed with chicken. Wife ordered the carnitas plate, again very flavorful, large portion size, also had the tamale & chili releno plate, both were very good, tamale was good but the mass was just a little too thick for my taste. Our server Juan was very attentive, service was fast. Price for two with drinks and tip was $75.00, fairly reasonable for the quality and quantity of food received. Restaurant is very well decorated and takes you back to a simpler time, very nice for a dinner with friends or family.

I apologize Original Red Onion that I never noticed you before. Based on their name, I never would've guessed that it was a Mexican restaurant. My family decided to go here for dinner on a Saturday at 7 pm and luckily made reservations beforehand on their website because this place was packed. After we checked in, we only had to wait a few minutes before they took us to our table. The interior has a homey feeling and a lot of decorations that give this place character. Each table is given chips and salsa to start. You can tell they make their tortilla chips in-house and the salsa has a lot of flavor and spice to it.I shared the fajita combo for two which comes with steak, chicken, and shrimp, and sides of rice, beans, guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream, and tortillas. I didn't know they gave each person their own plate of the sides so it was a lot of food! All of the meats were tender and juicy, and the tortillas were made fresh. All the flavors were authentic and enjoyable!I'll have to come back again to try the other items on their menu.

I really enjoyed my dinner here! I ordered the enchilada and tamales combo for $16.95 with huge portions and tasted delicious. The service was pretty quick considering there were over 20 of us and it was packed. Would love to come back one day if I'm ever in the area.

This is a 3 1/2 stars. It's an institutional spot for PV residence since it's been around since 1965. But, the Mexican food is best at mediocre standard. The food is good but not the best, not much of an option on the hill... I do like their fajitas (I mostly only get fajitas due to my gluten n dairy intolerant diet..). It's good here, consistent. But you can't really make bad fajitas but I have had some not so great ones before... Ambiance is always packed n casual, service is good unless it's busy. It took them forever to give me my sparkling water... but food comes pretty quickly.

My husband and I really enjoyed our lunch here! This is a huge restaurant with plenty of indoor seating as well as easy parking. Great variety on their menu, I love their crispy tacos. Nice variety of sides available as well, the veggies were great as was the beans and rice.they have nice salads and a variety of appetizers and drinks available as well. Service was friendly and fast and I absolutely loved their chips and salsa. It had such a unique flavor to it, crave worthy!

We came to celebrate September and October birthdays with my family. My uncle was raving about this place but honestly there was nothing to rave about. I originally wanted to try the sopes but the waiter said they were out. I asked for gorditas and the waiter said it was more of a salad than a traditional Gordita.. never heard of that before. I got a crispy steak taco it was mid. The steak lacked seasoning and the tortilla was not crispy. My father got chicken mole and it was not good. I understand that traditional Mexican mole has chocolate but there was something about this one that tasted sour, would not recommend at all. My mother got the onion salad and I will say the combination and the fresh fruit in the salad were phenomenal. I would recommend this to give a try if you're into salads. The wet burrito was ok. The shredded chicken lacked seasoning and flavor. The chicken quesadilla came with guacamole and the guacamole was not fresh and spoiled. Do not even get it!! My boyfriend and uncle got the fajitas (one combination and one chicken) the chicken was delicious season and grilled. The sides that came with it were mid. The black beans were dry and the guacamole again was so bad. It tasted spoiled. The building itself is pretty quirky as the interior design is funky. It was busy in a Friday night but I would not come back to this establishment for Mexican food. There are way better and authentic Mexican restaurants.

The Original Red Onion opened its doors at this location in 1963, and we have been loyal patrons for years. The food and service have always been consistently good. Today, we stopped by for a late lunch and were seated immediately. They welcomed us with warm chips and salsa, and I requested their spicy habanero salsa--absolutely delicious! We ordered the Red Onion Salad, which features mixed greens, jicama, avocado, tangerines, cucumber, fresh berries, candied pecans, and goat cheese, all topped with a raspberry vinaigrette dressing. The salad was fantastic! We also enjoyed the grilled orange roughy fish taco on a flour tortilla and the carnitas tacos on a hard shell. Both tacos were generously sized, delicious, and satisfying.Once again, The Original Red Onion delivered an enjoyable dining experience!

My family and I came here for dinner for Mothers Day this Friday night and it was certainly busy. The service was pretty slow as they took a while to take our order. They also unfortunately forgot an appetizer, a drink, and took a while to refill them as well.I will say the place is decorated very well. Salsa is top notch, rice and beans are delicious. I recommend the crunchy tacos as those really stood out.Overall you can feel the history here, but I think its a better lunch or casual spot when you're in the area.
