The Dog

This little gem is located by the main bus stop in the heart of Long Beach. Offering a hot dog lunch to include chips and a drink for only $4, The Dog has the best lunch deal in the area. One might wonder, "well what's so special about a hotdog" or even think that is they've had one hotdog they've had them all, but I assure you that this will be the best hot dog you've ever had. First boiled, then split and barbecued, the hot dogs are full of flavor and offer a smokey taste in each bite. I highly recommend giving them a try, even if you're not usually into hotdogs, you won't be disappointed, especially for the price. That's this critic's review, until next time I'll be eating.

I found The Dog at the Friday Promenade Farmer's market, and immediately went for a Bratwurst. Wow! Darrell delivers every week without fail, and when he runs out of brats, any one of his other links/dogs is just as good. Doesn't hurt that he is a nice guy that is happy to chat while he cooks your stuff.Quick story, I flew red eye from Oakland to LAX and then took the Long Beach Flyaway to DTLB and there he was ... The Dog! Stunned in hungry disbelief I look around the cart in disbelief ... "It has been a block from my work this whole time!?!?" I am sure Darrell would have thought I was crazy had I not been getting his food for months now. Needless to say, finding his usual spot saved my morning.You would be hard pressed to find any worthwhile lunch options for $4-6 in Downtown Long Beach, but The Dog delivers and stands a cut above other lunch specials. Cooked perfectly to order and split down the middle, The Dog's dogs are the best.
