I'm a big fan of the classic dark interior steakhouse, but I've been to Tam O' Shanter, Musso's, and Taylor's many times before, so I wanted to try something new. I read the reviews and opted for The Derby. Knowing the ambiance is important to me, I requested a nice booth table on the inside when I made my reservation and they accommodated me without any problems at a large, super comfortable red leather booth for me and my party of six. The ambiance did not disappoint. The greeting staff was very, very friendly, setting the tone for a great evening. Our server was very attentive and took really great care of us. I appreciated the addition of supporting wait staff who kept us hydrated. There was that sense that there was always someone to help. The rest was excellent. The classics like the Caesar salad, French Onion Soup, and Prime Rib were legit. The inclusion of the super vintage 'off-menu' Baked Alaska served table side was pretty great. Curious about their bread pudding desert, but that's one of many reasons to go back. As a fan of the other classic steakhouses in SoCal, I'm very happy to add The Derby to my rotation. It's clear they've earned their 100-year status. My Manhattan was excellent.

If you're looking for a great steak and seafood restaurant that seamlessly blends warm hospitality, delectable cuisine, lively ambiance with a vintage sophisticated decor, look no further than The Derby. We came on a Sat night to celebrate Valentine's and weren't disappointed. The staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive that set the tone for a great dinning experience. This was our first time here and our server went over the menu, which added another layer of enjoyment to our evening. Now let's talk about the heart and soul of The Derby, the food. The menu boasts of an array of great American steak and seafood cuisine that transported our tastebuds to various levels. Each dish we ordered was a culinary masterpiece with a perfect blend of flavors and textures that showcased management's commitment to quality and authenticity. In conclusion, The Derby is an iconic gem that goes beyond just being a restaurant but an experience. It succeeded our expectations not only by satisfying our palates but created a long lasting impression of an amazing dinning experience. We'll definitely be back!!

The Derby - Almost to the Winner's Circle! Every December, my work team and I suit up for a night of old-school LA steakhouse magic, and this year, The Derby had the honor of being at the gate. And let me tell you--when it comes to steak, sides, and classic charm, they came out strong! The food? Plentiful and delicious. We had our reservations locked in months before Christmas, and every bite was worth the wait. Sure, the service was a little on the slow side, but it was right before Christmas, and the place was packed, so we were happy to sip our drinks and enjoy the company. Now, here's where things took a stumble at the final turn--just as I was paying the bill (literally mid-dessert), a manager came over and asked us to hurry up because they had another party waiting for the table. I get that restaurants overbook and the kitchen was running behind, but let's be real--you can only eat as fast as the food arrives. When I pointed out I was paying at that very moment, the manager quickly backtracked with an awkward "oh, never mind."Look, Derby--your food is a champion, but if you want guests to cross the finish line with a smile, a little more grace in handling table turnover would go a long way. I'd love to come back on a non-holiday night to see if things run smoother, but next December, my team and I will be betting on a different horse. Final Verdict: Great food, solid atmosphere, but a fumbled finish. Here's hoping for a better race next time!

Ambiance & service was top notch. If you want a low lit place and slightly moreclassiness, adorn with the derby decorations, you will like this place. Food was upscale with the meats being very tender. We had the LAdine menu and got the following:Salmon Atlantic: It was good, but not amazing. The salmon was a little overcooked. There wasn't any wow factors in the flavor. Green beans were cooked to perfection. (4/5)French Onion Soup: loved that it wasn't too salty (4/5)Prime Rib with mash potatoes: it lacked herbs and the mash potatoes were watery for my taste. However, the prime rib was very tender. (3/5)Alaskan Dessert: loved the meringue and ice cream with the presentation of the flame (4/5)Cheesecake: the best part of the meal! Would go back for this (5/5)Overall, everything tasted more on the bland side, but that is a preference. I can see many people liking it and it is romantic. I would bring a date here for sure.

Steakhouse in Arcadia. Didn't know about it but wanted to go during the last DineLA promotion but couldn't due to other obligations. This time, just the other day in fact, I made it. If you're thinking of going, reservations! Or you can try your luck at the bar or there's the terrace outside. It was pouring rain when I went, so I opted for the bar and lucked out. Not tables available but there were a few open stools at the bar. Meaning, service was awesome. Sarita was my bartender/server. She was attentive, nice and full of information with my questions about the place. She made suggestions and pours a mean drink. Boozy is how I'd describe it and it went with my meal of read meat. Some seafood too. See pics. Food was great too. Beef served as requested. Rare. Opted for the Scampi - a little overdone for my taste but not to the point of chewing on rubber. Chose the Romanoff for one of my sides as well as the bread pudding for dessert. Let's just say I didn't finish it all. Enjoyed it heated up the next day. Have to admit, I was surprised it held up the day after. It's complimentary valet parking. Unless you want to park somewhere close by and walk. Finally made it and I wasn't disappointed. It's pretty far from home and work but I'd stop in again if I was in the area or if someone made plans to meet up there.

This is a great steakhouse. It has the old school classic steakhouse. The servers and service are impeccable. I've been here multiple times and have eaten in the main dining room or the bar. Both have the same menu and quality of service. They are known for their old fashioned and I can vouch for it.
