Sushi Imari-Costa Mesa

Came here for lunch, and service was very hospitable and quick! The server asked us if we wanted free hot green tea, which I will never say no to, and she even came to refill in the middle of our meal. The hot green tea absolutely hit the spot. She also brought us a small plate of onion tempura, which was super crispy and the onion inside was soft- almost melts in your mouth. Got the lunch time special- 3 rolls for $43.99. We got the sake bomb, in & out, and 007. If I had to pick a favorite, I would say 007, but everything was delectable.Very homey interior vibes inside!

Stopped at Sushi Imari about 2 hours until closing and it was packed. We didn't have to wait too long but was definitely a full house. It was a little hectic in here as it's bigger and busier than the usual Japanese spots we go to. I was craving an unagi bowl and my husband had the chicken teriyaki bento box. When my ordered first arrived, I was worried that it was not going to be enough. I was surprised by how small the bowl was and thought I would have to order more food. That was not the case. There were plenty of pieces and they were all pretty big. The bowl was pretty packed, might have been better and easier to eat if on a plate or bigger bowl but was worth the price. My husband enjoyed his chicken teriyaki and sushi bento box! The chicken was flavorful, had a lot of sauce and was not dry. I'd come back!

Good sushi spot! I wish I could remember what different rolls we got. They have a lot of quality rolls, some good variety of flavor, etc. The rolls I remember:- One roll we got with baked salmon was really nice- One that was a more citrusy flavor with a jalapeno on top was really good- A tempura fried roll with cream cheese was fun and filling- I really liked the one that had I think fried calamari on top? - Tempura green tea ice cream was frozen solid but tasty- Crispy rice was a hit as alwaysFriendly service. Fairly quick. Helpful

I've been to Sushi Imari many times and I feel like it's not as good as it used to be :/ the last two times I've been here for lunch, we waited about 40+ minutes for our food which is crazy because we only ordered nigiri and a hand roll. We also noticed that other tables who came in after us got their rolls first. Food wise, the fish isn't as fresh as I remembered and nothing to rave about. Overall it was still a decent meal but it's not my top pick.

Decent sushi without breaking the bank, friendly service (but a little slow), but has a very low-key and chill atmosphere with pretty open seating, sushi bar with TVs, and that mom & pop feel.That being said, it's a great option to grab some sushi without needing reservations and you have lots of variety, whether you're looking for sushi or sashimi, fusion rolls, entrees, appetizers, and drinks. We tried a few apps: edamame, gyoza (pretty meaty but a little greasy), and spicy tuna on crispy rice (not bad, pretty generous portions).For myself, I got the chirashi bowl so I could get a variety of fish with some seasoned rice and it was a solid bowl. I like that some of the fish were pretty thick cuts and the ones with seasoned yuzu was tasty. Rice itself also had good flavor that went well with the fish.Only thing I'd say that was an actual con was the slowness. There seemed to be spans of little to no attention, especially when it was to take our orders. Food came out with a bit spread apart so timing was definitely off. However, they did give us some gyozas on the house (even though we didn't complain) so we wondered if it was to make sure we didn't get hangry? But still, pretty friendly but maybe just understaffed like many places.

We tried the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice. It was good but they baked a layer of seaweed into it that my wife didn't care for. We only needed 3 orders of the seared salmon sushi (2 pieces per), and 2 orders of bluefin tuna sushi (2 pieces per). Next time we won't get the Bikini roll (rice-less) because it contains shrimp tempura that my wife no longer cares for. We'll try some other rolls and even maybe the Udon noodles next time. We tried the Mochi ice cream dessert and it was nice.

This place is definitely a hidden gem. It's tucked away and not the most obvious place. Plenty of parking available in the lot. Staff is very sweet and welcoming. Everyone greets you as you enter and leave the restaurant. Service was quick and efficient. The restaurant itself is pretty small. We sat at the bar where the TV was. They have 20% off beer, which was a plus. Price here is affordable and quality was great in my opinion! Definitely recommend trying this place if you're in the area. Food review:Complimentary gyoza and bluefin: (5/5) Super unexpected, but very much appreciated. These were both delicious! The beef gyoza had a great flavor and texture. The bluefin was buttery soft and the ball was a fun treat!In & Out roll: (5/5) This was delicious! Simple with a little kick and super fresh. Finding Nemo: (5/5) Tasty and the sriracha was a nice spicy note. Sushi nigiri: (10/5) OMG. This was so buttery soft and delicious. I had 2 orders. You can get with or without wasabi. I got them without.

Amazing fish quality. Plenty of comp from the chef. Nice spacious space. Wonderful customer service. Highly recommended

Came for lunch time as there are a bunch of lunch deals! The prices were good for that, and service was very quick. There was only one or two other tables at this time. Got the Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice, 007 Roll, and the lunch special of Half Udon Half Karaage. While waiting, they brought us some fried onion rings! I enjoyed the fried foods here, it wasn't too heavy and nicely crispy. The roll was decent, fish tasted ok but wish I had just tried the sashimi or nigiri. The spicy tuna crispy rice kept falling apart but it was delicious. Would definitely take advantage of the lunch deals, but I don't know if I'd be back for dinner or any busier time.

I've been eating here for years, the fish was incredibly fresh, and the flavors were perfectly balanced. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and the service was impeccable.If you're a sushi enthusiast, this place is a must-try!
