My review is based off of nostalgia and the fact of actually visiting a Sushi Boy brick and mortar. Back in 1999 I went to the Sushi Boy location inside Marukai's food court. I was then introduced to a roll that I highly judged because 1. it wasn't fish based 2. there was lettuce in it 3. I knew this thing would fall apart when picked up. What I didn't know is the magic behind a simple combination adding their teriyaki sauce. Its been some years that Sushi Boy left the Marukai food court and I felt I was at a loss on this roll. Since I don't live in the South Bay area it is a huge trek to come down just for sushi. Marukai is an exception since my mother's church is nearby and she loves to do her Japanese food shopping their. The roll that I'm raving about is their Chicken Maki. Simple: rice, chicken, lettuce, sesame seeds. When you add their teriyaki sauce, it is all good! This past weekend I had plans to visit the area and made a point to come to Sushi boy before heading to my destination. I had a couple of friends with me. It was their first time. I told them it is fast food sushi but its pretty good and the price is just right. 90% of the items in the photos of this review were my friend's order and they killed everything. Even the salad. The person at the register was really helpful as well. There is a menu up above and behind the register but when I asked for the chicken maki he showed me a more extensive menu that was laid out on the countertop. He also brought the order out to our table and while not knowing a key is needed to use the restroom, he handed it to me before even asking. There are a few staple food places/items for me in the South Bay and Sushi Boy has one of them. Glad to have made it. Parking: medium sized lotVERDICT: Rinse and repeat

Ordered Sushi Boy on Thanksgiving Day, 11/23/23. Calling in an order was easy. The person who took my order was friendly and nice. So grateful that they're open during the holidays. Really make it easy on those who aren't able to cook. We ordered the California platter which comes with California rolls, tuna rolls and salmon and avocado rolls. The platter was a big hit at our family Thanksgiving dinner. Everyone loved it! The rolls were fresh and really delicious. The ambiance is cool and relaxing. They have tables for those who want to dine in. We ordered from the Harbor city location and we prefer this Torrance location better. Clean and friendly staff. Easy parking as well. Definitely recommend and we will definitely be back!

Sushi not worth it. Sashimi was not fresh. I ordered a bento with salmon, but I didn't get salmon teriyaki. I got a mixture of cucumber and salmon and sashimi on rice. I also didn't finish my food because the fish was soft and not anywhere up to sushi standard. Look at the photo of their raw salmon sitting in the kitchen without refrigeration!

For a quick bite to eat in or for take out, Sushi Boy is a convenient place to stop for Japanese food. They have a variety of rolls, bowls, and combinations to choose from on their menu and it's also easy to order ahead by phone or online. Service is quick so you don't have to wait too long after you order before getting your food, if you place your order at the counter. I have not ordered any party trays yet, so I'm not sure how far in advance you need to place these orders. The Hawthorne location has a small seating area with maybe 6 to 8 tables, so it's convenient to eat indoors there. Today we ordered a Bento Box with Karaage Chicken and a Salmon Avocado roll (4pcs) and two 3 Item Customized Combos. One combo had Teriyaki Chicken, Shrimp Tempura (3 pcs), and Beef Sukiyaki and the other one had Teriyaki Chicken, Karaage Chicken, and a Spicy Tuna Roll (4pcs). The customized combos come with either white or brown rice, miso soup and salad. The Spciy Tuna roll was not spicy at all and the Karaage chicken was "OK". The portion was pretty good, but the flavor was just average.

I went to get a California roll here today (Saturday, July 6 / 4:10p/ Gustavo was the cashier). When I entered restaurant, the cashier was chatting with his girlfriend who was hanging around the counter. No other customers were in the restaurant. As I stood waiting to order, I noticed that the cashier was using his bare hand to wipe his nose and rub his eyes. I decided to order anyway. But, as I was sitting waiting for my food, the cashier continued to wipe his nose and eyes with his bare hands. Then, he picked up the bag and was getting ready to place my food inside. I stopped him and politely asked him to wash his hands before he handled my order. This guy refused to wash his hands even though a sink was right behind him. He kept asking me why it mattered that he touched his eyelids and face. Then, his girlfriend had the audacity to question me and accuse me of being a problem. I demanded a refund and he said, "Good".How disgusting. I will never eat here again.

We had a good experience here overall. I think it's a chain of Sushi restaurants (it's counter service) and even has a sister restaurant under a different name (much as The Gap owns Old Navy and Banana Republic), which I can't remember right now but know it's a good place I like. The food here was fresh and the service was very friendly.Parking might be tight because the lot is shared and has limited spaces, but it's not that hard to find street parking if need be.

The good:I got a Grubhub gift card from my brother for mother's day so I treated myself today to a sushi dinner! I got a croquette, cucumber roll, unagi roll and lemon shrimp roll. I like that there were many non raw fish options since I'm trying to satisfying my sushi craving while on a pregnancy diet. My order was neatly packaged. It was also great for my toddler who doesn't eat raw fish yet. My toddler ate almost the entire croquette (it had corn bits in it) and one cucumber roll. I enjoyed all 3 rolls. They were the right size and seemed fresh. I enjoyed the lemon shrimp roll a lot and liked that it wasn't overly doused in sauce. This isn't a fancy, deluxe sushi spot necessarily but it had everything I wanted and didn't disappoint! The bad:They don't have dessert options. This isn't Dessert Boy.The interesting:They have 2 locations in Torrance.
