No real comment here as we only walked by in front of the place but we loved the rooster on the roof. Super cute and eye catching.

Typically we go to Peking Poultry when we're buying a fresh whole chicken but we were also looking for a rabbit & they were out, so we came to Superior Poultry down the street. I really enjoy the lack of the smell at SP; is it death & carcasses(?) Superior Poultry is extremely clean and the woman running the counter was very helpful. We bought a whole chicken and whole rooster; both killed on site. They have the live options as well but it is whatever they have in stock. (All of the animals in the photos are the ones that are live options.) I couldn't imagine killing a live one as I'm a bit squeamish but my husband is set on getting one for the kids & to let it run around for a day. :( We'll see how I handle that day. The rooster was delicious and had almost a turkey-esque mouth bite. Prices:$2.10/lb for raw chicken, not sure if it is more/the same cost on the live ones$11 flat price for a live / killed rooster

Parking is limited. Chicken is fresh. Only thing is hard to back out since it's on Broadway with lots of people and cars.

$11 for a whole brown hen! This is dirt cheap compared to any grocery-store chicken and it tastes so much better (when cooked at home obviously). I was walking home from my adventures in Chinatown that day (maybe a 10 minute wait) and decided to take a bird home. The line was fairly short on my visit, but remember cash only!

Get ready to smell a scent you won't soon forget. That said - a legit place to get specialty poultry. If you're a Salvy in need of gallina india - you have found your place.

Freshest poultry in the area. Can't miss this place - it's the place with the huge cock, I meant, rooster on it's roof. Be warned, if you can't stand the smell or sight of animals, this might not be the place for you. You might want to mosey into a butcher or Vons for your chicken breasts. Also, during weekends and holidays (asian ones, of course and maybe thanksgiving and xmas) they're hellva busy - so plan accordingly. Also, probably closed on all major holidays. No parking lot for the public - street parking, or the lot next door is $3 all day.I just remember as a kid, this place STANK, but with sanitary conditions and health boards, this place is pretty clean and no longer smells like chicken poop. :)
