This place has been around for a while. The last time I came by, I ordered the special sandwich. Which was okay, 3/5. The sandwich was a little hard/chewy (stale) but edible, and the price was about $4. During that time, I wanted to order some French bread for my homemade Currys soup, and I asked the workers if the bread was soft or hard. He said it's good. I asked if they could squeeze it with the grabber(tongs), and they said no. Pretty much, they make you buy it regardless if its fresh or not. 1/5. Bad business. Today, I wanted Banh Mi sandwich and coffee. So, I decided to give them a try again. Everything is pretty much the same. Same workers since the business is family owned. The price for sandwiches has gone up, and it's now about $7 plus. Average compared to other places. The experience ordering was okay, 3/5. Let's dive right into the good stuff, but if my waysof describing things don't please you. Take a lookat some of the pictures I've attached to this review. My orders are,Drink:1. Vietnamese Ice Coffee Sandwich:1. #7 Special Banh Mi SandwichThe sandwich was okay, same from the last time. The bread is stale, cold but edible. Everything inside is at a minimum. It's definitely not worth $7, but maybe $5. I'll give the sandwich 3/5. The Vietnamese ice coffee is okay, less sweet since they only put a dap of condensed milk. Hmmm... 3/5. Overall, this place would be my last resort when it comes to Banh Mi and the customer service experience. Give them a try for yourself, you might get a better experience. Don't take my word. You just never know. Best of luck, though. Be prepared to wait for parking since its share parking with a grocery store, 3/5.P.s. Don't forget to smile cause you're beautiful. SYOY!

In this city, a lot of Bahn Mi and small bites restaurants have come and go but Star Bakery has withstood the test of time. Nestled in the heart of Cambodia Town, across from the equally beloved Khmer supermarket (Riverside Market) is this place. Its served the community of Long Beach for years with made to order Cambodian dishes, ready-to-eat meals, drinks, Cambodian food, and of course, their Bahn Mi. Even during COVID, this place has gone through some changes but I still see them servicing students, moms, service workers, and people on their lunch break. Now, lets take a moment to appreciate the food coming out of this joint. The first thing you see is a pleasant cafeteria-style trays of Cambodian desserts. The types made out of stuffed mochi with sweetened mung bean paste, jellys, tapioca pearls, and taro chunks in a light coconut milk. These are exclusively served at family gatherings so its hard to come by in a shop, much apreciations. It fits the criteria of Asian dessert because its perfectly not too sweet. The ready to made food comes with a good portion of a rice noodle, a well-marinated protein, fresh herb garnish and a perfectly balanced fish sauce. They seemed made and packaged in-house. And to the same caliber, their Bahn Mi carry this same level of attention and detail. All of the components are there, its a classic. The baguettes are light, pillowy, and have the perfect crumb fit for all the toppings. The combination of meat textures, the tangy pickle, the long strands of cilantro, and the creamy condiments, ah! They keep it simple but they do it right. If you have time to spend longer, do try to order things off their menu. Its made fresh, home-style, and their flavor components are deep, rich, and offer a sense of heritage. I hope more people go here. Its not the most outward-facing restaurant, I can see folks drive by all the time without knowing how much of a gem this place is.

CLOSED WEDNESDAY's I love that they sell a variety of my favorite coconut desserts with different fruits. They also have other packaged foods such as spring rolls ready to pick up and go. Lastly, the classic shaved ice and canned jelly/fruits are hard to find, but they sell it! The gentleman there is always so polite. The only downside is if you order food, it may take awhile.

Great little bakery and food service. I needed to bring a platter of spring rolls for an event at work. My previous go-to spot, KC Bakery, closed so I had to find another place. My friend recommended Star Bakery and it turned out great. The spring rolls tasted fresh and looked beautiful, and the dipping sauce was equally delicious. I forgot to take a photo though. Anyways, Star also had other ready to go items as well as a shaved ice bar. I want to come back and try more dishes.

The BBQ Pork and BBQ Sandwiches are very delicious. Two stars off because of an incident that occurred and the response provided from the cashier. I ordered two orders of Chinese Bread/Cha Quai. When I took a bite from one of them, it was extremely hard.I spoke with the tall gentleman who handles the cashiering responsibilities to request for a refund. He insisted that it was fresh and responded that it should get microwaved; then, he denied a refund.Because of the apathetic manner he responded and the lack of willingness to correct the issue, I will not be returning back. I recommend getting your Chinese Bread/Cha Quai at Rice String Noodle Shack or Phnom Penh Noodle Shack.

Please eat here. It's truly so good. And at a good price point too. I came here with my parents when we visited Long Beach. It's across the way from a grocery store that sells Cambodian food and this bakery and sandwich shop sells great Cambodian food. Much love since there aren't that many!I ordered the ban chiao (also known as banh xeo at Vietnamese restaurants), which is a savory Cambodian yellow pancake/crepe. So delicious. I've been to other places where the crepe is too soft or too limp or too thick or too hard. It was just right. And the filling of ground meat, bean sprouts, and shrimp was delightful. Not too heavy but very filling. The sweet and sour fish sauce used to dip the banh chiao in is also so great! It may seem daunting if you're new to fish sauce but this one is much lighter in flavor. This whole dish was only around $7! Such a great deal. I also got a rau ma drink, also known as pennywort juice. It's kinda like wheatgrass and good for when you're sick. They make it fresh and you can tell them how sweetened you like it! Try it out!

We got the star special sandwich and palm fruit dessert. The sandwich was really good - the star special comes with extra cold cut meat than the other sandwich on its menu, better than Lee's sandwiches! The dessert was also really good, total for both was $9. They close at 4:30 pm every day except for wed which is when they close for the whole day. They accept cash only - would return again!
