Sophy's: Cambodian Town Food & MusicStopped by Long Beach and wanted to try authentic Cambodian food. My friend from the area recommended Sophy's, and it didn't disappoint! We got the Beef Skewer (15.95): Beef sirloin served with their secret pickled papaya salad. The skewers were a flavorful appetizer--tender, well-seasoned, and paired perfectly with the pickled papaya salad. Such a great way to start the meal! Somlaw Machu Kreoung (16.95): Khmer's favorite soup: Inspired by a world of lemongrass with hints of tangy tamarind, eggplant, and watercress. This soup was delicious and reminded me of Tom Yum but with a richer and slightly more complex flavor. The shrimp added a nice touch, and it was a satisfying, hearty soup overall. Banh Cheo (16.95): Pan-fried crepes filled with ground chicken, shrimp, bean sprouts, and onion, served with fresh vegetables, mint, and crushed peanuts in a sweet and sour sauce. I've only had banh cheo at Vietnamese restaurants before, so trying it here was a real treat. Everything tasted so fresh, from the crispy crepes to the herbs and sweet and sour sauce.Portions were great, services was wonderful, and food was amazing

I decided to check out this place yesterday after my dad insisted it was worth a try. Unfortunately, it was a letdown from start to finish. I ordered the jerky and a couple of other dishes, but everything was way too salty--like, distractingly so. That said, the food was the least of my concerns. The restaurant itself was not in great shape. The cleanliness was questionable, with visible dirt and flies everywhere--yes, including one that landed in my food. Not exactly appetizing. The service didn't help either; the staff was cold and unwelcoming, barely acknowledging us when we walked in. To make matters worse, one of the employees spent the entire time we were eating making snide comments about us, which was both unprofessional and just plain rude. All in all, it was a pretty rough experience. I wouldn't go back, and honestly, I'd think twice before trusting my dad's recommendations again. This place is a hard pass.

Places like this make me wish I had discovered food like this sooner in my life. The flavors of Cambodia are new to me but Sophys may just be a gateway to my new obsession. I loved the balance of flavors with the #66 Somlau Machu Kreuong (w/ pork bones); its soothing soulful Cambodian care that you imagine someone's grandma slaved away on in the kitchen. Mmmmm! The staff are very friendly and educated me on which plates I should order for absorbing a variety of authentic traditional dishes. I truly appreciate staff members who can teach me these things.

I usually stop by Long Beach for some Cambodian food after spending a day in the Disney's theme parks. We usually go to one particular restaurant that I have been going to since I was child. That restaurant is not all that great, but it is the only one that I am most familiar with. This time, however, I wanted to try something different. I am so glad to have stopped by Sophy's. They do have a parking lot in the back. The restaurant is not too big or small. There's a good amount of seatings inside the restaurant with lots of lighting. I want to start off by saying how friendly the staffs were the moment we walked into the restaurant. I also appreciate the small talks with my waitress and her trying to get to know us. She also acknowledged the kids, and I appreciate that very much! What I ordered: Beef Ka Pao (stir fry), Prahok Ktiss (veggie dip), basil clams (stir fry), and Somlaw Machu Youun (soup) with a side of steamed rice. The Ka Pao was okay in my opinion. The beef was thinly sliced and cooked to perfection. I'm just used to the sauce being a little thicker when I would order it at other Thai restaurants. The Prahok Ktiss was delish! It is packed full of flavors, and it comes with a variety of vegetables. I don't really eat vegetables, but I did this time because of how good the Prahok Ktiss was. The sauce used for the basil clams was also very flavorful. I really tasted the basil in the sauce. My husband is not a fan of clams, but he really enjoyed this one. The Somali Machu Youun is another one of our favorites. I usually see Celebrity tomato (regular tomatoes) used in this type of recipe, but they used to cherry tomatoes, and I dig it! Overall, my family and I really enjoyed our time at Sophy's. We left happily full. We appreciate the customer service. I think this will be our new favorite!

This is a solid place! We got the thai boat noodles and ahmok (catfish in curry sauce) with a side of rice. They serve generous portions - even the rice was larger than we expected! We've never had ahmok before, and this was a great first experience. It was light, fragrant, and creamy. The fish was tender and didn't have a fishy odor. We had leftovers and it was just as good or even better the next day. The boat noodles also hit the spot. I like how they added water spinach since I don't see that added often. The soup wasn't as thick as I was used to, but it was still rich and flavorful. Service was friendly and it definitely feels like a family run restaurant. For a restaurant in Long Beach, I was surprised at how easy parking was since they have their own lot.

If I can give this place a Zero stars. This place is a complete joke with the staff. I don't even know where to start with how unprofessional the staff is. Tables were unkept and dirty, food was not even that flavorful truly not a great representation of the Cambodian Culture especially in Cambodia Town.
