This place looked like a cheesy reception hall at a second rate hotel chain from the 70s. I gave them 1 star too many.Usually when I go to a gig, I like to move about the room and do my own little soundcheck and kind of get a feel of how various parts of the room are receiving the music. Here I did that, but I first watched to see if the sound-guy would stroll to the back ... you know to kind have a listen to what it all is sounding like, even if he is there every day and swears he has it all dialed in. So, I waited ... a song was belted out... and then a couple more. Finally, I grew frustrated and I walked around and had a listen. Vocals were a bit overpowering. While I was doing this their sound guy took notice.. I mean he stared at me, so I guess he saw me... Then he went out and did his check. This should be done prior to the start of the set. It wasn't... The business best not don't doubt me. I was there. Now, someone might say this is not my business. Well, my business is to hear the music as the band intended and if the venue's sound guy isn't on top of it. Then, why am I here? Again I am SMH. Then I caught something about bands having to pay to play... wasn't sure what this was all about. BUT...This is how I see things (and plenty will agree): Kids learn to play instruments, learn to sing, learn to get along with others who also do these things. Sometimes get beat up during school days, depends on your instrument (lol)... so finally, upon reaching adulthood and finely tuning their supplemental income hobby, they find gigs. They did all that work for years and years. So, this is when it gets easy (sarc.). For example:Pack your musical equipment into your car... Try to not be pissed off when you arrive at a venue after subjecting yourself to the madness of L.A. traffic, you haul your stuff from your vehicle to the stage - sometimes from a parking spot far away from the venue, run your wires, assemble your drum kit... fine tune your gear placement and then play the hell out of all that you know before doing all that set up in reverse and rushed because another band might be trying to set up. Oh and the venue expects you to promote the show and bring the crowd? At least the venue promoted their shows via an illuminated marquee with the latest gig info on it... Oh wait, my mistake. I apologize. THAT sign is for the venue next door called The Gaslamp (and I actually like that place). On my way out I watched one lady who seemed to be in charge squawk with some band dudes about the band needing to pay the venue because they didn't bring guests or sell tickets or some dang thing. Cheesy set up. Attention bands: why would you play here? Anyone who thinks this venue is great needs to get out more. My readers can come check it out for themselves, but to any and all Yelp Elites: I have trusted you... Now it is time to do yourself a favor and mimic my actions. I will not be back.

Salsas on Thursday night is the best! If you go an hour before, they have salsa and bachata classes. It depends on what night you go! I usually like coming here for the salsa classes which is just $5! You will switch partners and practice with different individuals. Even if you come here with a partner, it is recommended to practice with different people. Then after the dance class is over, it becomes a club where everyone just dances. This is time you can practice your new moves with the partner you brought or anybody else.

I've came here about 3 times for their salsa/bachata classes on Thursday. The entry fee is $10 and they have open floor after 10 pm. It used to be in the ballroom, which was so spacious. Now it's by the bar and there's a good turn out of people who come for the classes. So now it's a bit cramped. The classes are fast paced even for beginners but I enjoy them. My only complaint is that they don't allow you to bring water bottle from outside, so you're forced to buy bottle water at the bar. I've been to other places where that's not a problem. Even Lighthouse in Hermosa beach provide free water.

One of my friends comes here on a weekly basis for bachata and salsa classes. She invited us to join, so my friend and I made our way over there. It's only $5 for beginners and $10 for more advanced dancers. This covers both classes, so it's a great deal.My friend and I wanted to dance with each other, but they make you switch partners every 5-10 minutes. I guess this is cool if you're looking to meet people, but that's not what we were doing or anticipating. Some of our partners were really odd...All three of us actually left after the first class, but it's a good place for those who want to learn and make friends, etc.

Worst service ever!!!Waitress got our orders wrong, brought out 4 separate bills instead of the 2 we asked for, lagged with requests for water, utensils, took my husbands water glass and eventually after asking 3 times for a water refill brings him a cocktail glass of water.Ridiculous overprivledged old people standing in our way and becoming aggressive when asked to move.

My friend and I attended the salsa dancing night here on Thursday (3/30). There were two bartenders working that night, one Hispanic and one white. We waited at the side bar table for almost 15 minutes to order drinks. Although I waved at them a couple of times, they preferred to serve anyone who came to the middle of the bar table, even if they arrived after us. It was terrible service. In the future, I won't order drinks from either bartender here.
