Best menudo in So Cal so far. My GF's grandfather agrees! Only places better that I have tried were in Baja and Guadalajara! Wait was pretty short for a Monday around Noon. Tried the menudo and the special short rib chilaquiles. GF doesn't eat menudo, so finally got to try their sit down place as she does enjoy chilaquiles. $25 for a bowl of menudo with nervio is pretty steep, otherwise would give them 5 stars. They should also offer it on the side, cause if you pay an extra $5 for something, you don't want it to displace the meat in the menudo too. They can do better on the salsas too. The one thy give with chips was ok, but not spicy. Asked for something spicier and they said they only give those for to go orders - WTF? Whatever. If I had ordered tacos, would have been a big issue for me, but since I didn't need for menudo, not to bad. They do have chili oil and powder for the menudo if you like it spicy like I do. Last complaint was they made the chilaquiles with onions when we asked for no onions and only offered to take them off, not remake. GF was not happy. Definitely will be back for more menudo, but have to save my pennies :)

Stopped here on a whim on a Saturday and as expected, there was a wait to be seated. We waited around 30 min to be seated. Keep an eye on your place in line as I noticed some people were seated before us that arrived after us. No biggie as we were in no rush but I can see where this ca be an issue. The ambience is ok. Nothing special just an old restaurant repurposed. Music was good not too loud but you can enjoy it. Now the food, we ordered menudo, carne en su hugo, and chilaquiles trio. Menudo was good, I can say I will be coming back for it. The large is LARGE! It's a huge bowl. You order the menudo which is just the meat and broth. You can add hominy, nervios, and pata. Of coarse they charge you for the additions. The broth was good, not too rich and didn't taste "dirty" if you know what I mean. You get sides of onion, cilantro, & lemon. There is also oregano and chile on the table for your liking. Now I will say that it was mi second time here and it was better the second time around. I was disappointed the first time but could not base it on first impression . I had to try it again and they did not disappoint. The price is above what I would consider reasonable, but what isn't expensive anymore! Wife ordered carne en su jugo and it was a big surprise for me. I will be ordering this next time I go. It was a very flavorful dish. Really opened my taste buds. I recommend you try this also. The chilaquiles trio was also very good. Huge portion and very tasty. My son could not finish the dish. It's enough for 2 people. Over all I give it a 5 because it's checks all boxes in regard to being good menudo you can go out and get. And they have many other options for those you bring that are not menudo eaters.

Wow. What a disappointment. I've seen this place online for a while and kudos to their marketing because it's even on my Tias TikTok which is why we went. Let's get to the food later let's address the big problem: THE WAIT. It was a Saturday and there was a line out, I was with my Mom and were told it would be about a 20 minute wait. I don't mind waiting at all but then I noticed people getting seated with the same amount of people getting seated before me who had arrived and put there name down after me. I noticed this once and then I noticed the sign on their door stating about the seating and how they prioritize parties...so I kinda knew this was an issue already. After about 2 other parties of 2 got seated I asked about my seat. We were told we would be seated soon but then it happened again. My mom went in and asked and once again told we would be seated. I have no idea why we waited even longer, I hate myself sometimes but honestly I was already there and waited so I tried to make the best of it. About 10 mins pass and now me and my mom are the only ones in the lobby and finally we're seated. Our server was great and we began with the food. And honestly I can't even talk about it because of how basic it was, the rice was the smallest portion in my Chilaquiles but the rice was delicious. My green sauce was pretty good not going to lie but you could tell the chips were fried in house. My mom's menudo was not hot in temperature so that was underwhelming but she enjoyed it. Overall it was a pretty bad visit and probably won't be back. The food wasn't even awful but on top of the wait and oh yeah why not free refills on chips and salsa? That's wild.

I found this on TikTok looking for new exciting restaurants in Downey. I am a big fan of Chilaquiles so we got in the car and drove right over. Everything was completely authentic. As soon as we sat at our table, they give us chips and salsa plus a side platter with onions, cilantro, and lemon so you can make your salsa exactly how you like it. I absolutely love that. My food was delicious. I really wanted to try. Café de la olla. But I decided to save it for a girls breakfast, . Yummy ! So next time you decide to come to the Beverly Hills and Latinos Downey, California, don't forget to stop by Mr. Menudo and try some of their delicious Chilaquiles.

While I enjoyed my meal, I think there's room to re-evaluate the pricing, as it seemed a little steep for the quality and experience provided. It might be helpful to reassess the pricing on certain dishes to make the value feel more aligned with the experience.

Great Menudo, Worth the Wait!If you're craving authentic menudo, Mr. Menudo in Downey is a good option! Be prepared for a wait, especially on weekends--I've waited up to an hour, but it's absolutely worth it. The menudo is flavorful and rich, just like you'd hope. And if you're a fan of micheladas, you're in luck--they pair perfectly with the menudo! The ambience was pretty cool, everyone was very friendly and making the best of the rush. The service can be a bit slow due to the crowd, but the food more than makes up for it. I definitely recommend coming with patience and an empty stomach!

Petty. I cannot consume most meat due to my disease. I asked if I can order a torta, just without meat. And they said no they couldn't do that. I offered to still pay the same amount, but still they refused. I dont understand how stubborn the cooks can be. Its literally less work and saved money for them. Not returning.

How exciting to be here for the first brick and Mortar full service Mr. Menudo restaurant. I have followed Mr.Menudo from its humble beginnings in the city of Compton as a street food vendor . Seen the evolution of this iconic brand go to to east LA and then Bellflower . But, it's Finally in Downey and the community is so excited . Ambiance- well as the second customer to walk in the space is spacious and extremely clean with great music . The decor is simple but elegant and nice staying true to a sit down restaurant . Service - extremely attentive staff and well staffed. Surprisingly they knew the menu well and even made suggestions . Food- now this is why this place stands out from so many menudo spots in LA . It's not only made fresh daily but it's simply the best menudo in California that I've ever had and trust me as a foodie I've tried tons of menudos. I had a menudo grande with pata and grano. But they can make it anyway you want . I also had a must try and high recommend Guajolotongo . Which is a tamal and chilaquiles that is a Mexican delicacy . They serve tacos , burritos , birria and the best tamales . They have a great assortment of food . Plus they have delicious micheladas and good assortment of beer (Para curar la cruda). Overall I highly recommend this place if you want great tasting Menudo and MEXICAN FOOD!
