Some people say they are open past 2am, the sign on the door says 10pm... I think they just play it by ear. I stopped in here last week before going to The Stache in order to avoid another event like the great drunken birthday incident of 2011. Boys and girls, always, always, always, and I do mean always remember to eat before you booze. Not doing so leads to... well, let's not even go there.Anyhow, luckily this place is the next door neighbor to one of my new fave LB watering holes, so it's the perfect place to grab a bite before... or after. There's nothing exactly bad about La Palapa De Michoacan, but nothing especially stands out either. It's definitely not exceedingly cheap, with their hot plates clocking in at about $12 each. I wanted to save some cash as well as some cals, so I opted for the shrimp tostada (since they were out of fish). It was perfectly adequate (essentially ceviche) albeit exceedingly oniony. One benefit of being married: eat all the onions you want. Who the fuck cares? Some of the other menu items looked pretty good, perhaps next time I'm in need of some pre-booze fuel.

Location, Location, Location is key to any business. Since La Palapa is located near the corner of 4th and Alamitos Boulevard, It is easy to find in the area between downtown Long Beach and Alamitos Bay community. La Palapa stays open late and offers good Mexican food at a reasonable low price. This combination is very attractive as most residents and visitors to Long Beach will tell you the price of food and service grows exponentially higher as one approaches Ocean Boulevard. Case in Point, a well established Mexican restaurant located two blocks from Ocean Boulevard has a price range starting at $3 dollars for a taco to a $12.50 fajita plate. In comparison, La Palapa offers 4 tacos and a can of soda for 5 bucks or a burrito for around 7 bucks. My personal favorite is the shrimp tacos and the cheese quesadilla with avocado. If you need an alcohol libation with your food, order to go and take your goodies next door to the Stache. The drinks there are good and reasonably priced. A win .. win .. Imagine this, only 4 blocks away from Ocean Boulevard!!! OMG !!!It should be noted that a little while ago La Palapa De Michoacan changed its' name to Habenaros. It is still the same bill of fare and price structure with stellar friendly service.

This place JUST opened here. It's on 4th St. across the street from The V Room. The place is GREAT. Huge fan of their wet burrito with green sauce! Also love their 3 crunchy tacos combo. Their taco shells are home made!!! They stay open late on the weekends so it's a great place to grab some late night tacos after a night out at the bars. Love how you get that family vibe here. They've got EVERYONE in their family pitching in. I would LOVE for this place to succeed. Definitely worth giving a try!

Increased my star rating of this place after another night eating here, sober this time. This place is legit and it's starting to get busy late at night when all the bars are closing on 4th street. Hopefully good reviews will start rolling in soon.

This place sucked. Sorry. I ordered carne Asada nachos and a coke. The bill came out to $10 and some change. When I got home, the nachos were made with ground beef, the guacamole looked and tasted like it was bought, the nachos were stale and greasy. I was sad. It wasn't good or fresh. The ground beef tasted like it was made yesterday and my coke was all syrup no bubbles. I hate when you buy food and it's disappointing. My search for a worthy taqueria still continues...

Came here last Saturday night after a boozing session on 4th street. Being located by so many bars, I would have expected this place to be more busy at 2am. We went in and my friend ordered the Al pastor sope and I followed suit. They were delicious, totally hit the spot late night. The salsa was nice and hot, just how I like it. There's nothing like some spicy Mexican food after a night of drinking. Give this place a try.
