This place is simply outstanding! I have been to 6 other sushi spots in Long Beach and this one is by far THE BEST! The quality is over the top. Favorites? Stinky RollCrunchy Spicy Tuna RollKimu Roll I will say I like the chef at lunch better. For example, the Stinky Roll at lunch is different than at dinner. Different chef. So there may be a quality issue there with inconsistency. But, still over the top.

When you walk into the restaurant, you walk into the sushi bar into the left of the seating area. Lovely atmosphere. K-pop playing in the background and on the TV as well as sports on the other. The staff was very helpful and the service was excellent. The fish was fresh, and they have a lot of interesting rolls. My favorite was the crunchy spicy tuna roll. And they have very reasonably priced pitchers of beer. They have their own parking lot... get the extra star for that!

Located along the eastern edge of downtown Long Beach, Kimu Sushi serves up a variety of Japanese inspired cuisine in the space previously occupied by a different sushi restaurant. It opened in mid-2024, and serves a weekday lunch special, which I took advantage of. The fish was good and varied, sushi rice was fine, service was sound, and the price was reasonable. It's a nicely remodeled space inside, with dark tones giving it an evening feel, even during mid-day. It wasn't too crowded, so was allowed to sit at a table even for a party of one. As mentioned, there is a lunch special, so got the sushi combo ($23.95) consisting of 8 chef's choice of sushi, one spicy tuna roll (a choice amongst others), miso soup, and a side salad. Service was great, delivering some ice water (keeping it refilled), and then bringing out the soup, salad, and sushi platter individually as I completed each course. The miso soup was fine, nice and hot (not warm but not scalding either). This version didn't have any tofu, but was quite strong with miso. The salad was simple, but very good with field greens (instead of simple lettuce), a great ginger salad dressing, and avocado. I think it might have been the best complementary salad I've eaten at a Japanese-themed restaurant. The sushi was varied enough so that I really liked some, and didn't care as much for others. It came with a full (8 pieces) of a really good spicy tuna roll. It was expertly made, with just a little layer of rice and plenty of lightly packed minced tuna. I really liked it, making me wish I had tried their California Roll roll as well. In terms of their nigiri, it was eight pieces and the ones I could easily identify were albacore, yellowtail, salmon, shrimp...and saba (mackerel). I don't remember the last time I had mackerel at a sushi place...so ended up trying that first. I really liked it, but immediately had two thoughts: 1. really meant for people who love fish and actually relish the fishiness of highly oily fish (like canned) 2. should have eaten these two pieces last....even with the ginger, I couldn't cleanse my palate enough. The sushi rice made no difference with the mackerel, but was really good with the other pieces of fish. I also thought the salmon was good, with decent pieces. As a whole, good quality of fish for what you are paying.Another thing to mention was the presentation of all the food was top notch. I actually took a moment to admire the sushi platter, with the nice touches of lemon wedges, plumeria petals, and some sort of leaf (banana, maybe). Each piece had been individually scored cross grain, which definitely adjusted the texture while chewing. The music playing (rather loudly) inside was interesting too...modern piano trio playing classical pieces (not just musak versions of contemporary hits). This added to the night-time feel of the place.Payment was afterwards and simple, and they used this really neat rollaway box (with their logo) to bring the check and to transport the credit card away and back. It's funny that I start to notice such things when the food and service are very good, just wanting to remember the different aspects of a great dining experience.

Cute place. It's quite busy, close to the terrace theatre in downtown LB.The prices are quite up there maybe because of cost in rents.Nothing spectacular but nothing horrible.Fish ratio was on the slim side, but the rice to fish ratio was good since I hate heavy rice on fish.It was an overall delicious meal but nothing special or extravagantly amazing.

First and foremost I want to give a round of applause to Kimu Sushi for not just the wonderful customer service but the ambiance, food and more! Hands down top of my list for Sushi in Long Beach and will now be my go to. We were quickly seated for our reserved table and greeted with such wonderful waitresses. Music was super chill and felt very high class. Prices were fair and well worth it. Thank you for a wonderful dinner see you next time!

Love this place! I think the coolest thing about this place is how it is a little oasis from the kind of rough area. It's pretty small but they have a yelp waitlist so use that! Service is attentive and everyone is so sweet. The sashimi dinners are great but not a good of a deal as their rolls. I loved every single roll that I've had here! All of them were very generous portions. I've had the sensual pleasure, stinky roll, kimu roll, baked scallop roll (it comes on fire!). Presentation is great as well. The sushi down in long beach isn't great so I would go here if you're looking for good sushi when you're in the area!

Very clean and well decorated interior. Staff were friendly and attentive. We had miso soup, carpaccio, nigiri, 3 specialty rolls, and 2 hand rolls. The scallop hand roll was the show stopper of the night...delicious!! You can tell the fish is fresh and good quality. Presentation of every dish is beautiful and crafted with care. I'll be coming back for more hand rolls soon!

Sushi is off the charts delicious! Another top notch local spot we'll be frequenting. We sat at the sushi bar and watching each dish being prepared you can see the love that goes into each an every one. I was in shock of the detail and perfection of the Itamea...it was truly an artpiece on every plate. Then our food is delivered and it's presentation was on point. Best part the flavor, fresh fish and portion size were also perfection. And the service....fantastic!!! From the moment we walked in (we didn't have a reservation, but highly recommend as it's a small place) to the time we left, we were well taken care of. Drinks refilled, order taken timely with food delivered pretty quick, plates cleared frequently, constantly checked on...all, much appreciated!! Price point is equal to other local spots and quality is more than worth it.

A great vibe at this restaurant! It was small but well decorated and very artfully designed. The staff were so friendly and kept checking up on us. I can't remember the rolls we got- I think it was cucumber roll (not pictured), soft shell crab roll, another roll. I felt like the rolls had a thick layer of rice which isn't my preference. Besides that, it was pretty good. There is also a parking lot for easy parking.

We found a great new sushi spot in South Bay! Friendly for those with gluten allergy. All rolls were great and you can't go wrong with what you pick.Service/ambience: cozy and friendly. Great vibes for a family/friend dinner or date. I wouldn't suggest for groups above 6-8. Parking: there is a lot but it can be right and busy. Some street parking nearby.
