I never get a chance to visit this restaurant when I am in the area but I'm sure it is going to be a great Filipino food experience because it is a Philippine community

I had the saddest lumpias I've ever eaten in my life from here that I ordered for Christmas. They barely had any meat inside but it looked like a normal sized lumpia. It was mostly wrapper! I actually thought some of the lumpias didn't have any meat inside, but that's probably because they were also overcooked! I wish I took photos but they had to be thrown out because barely anyone ate the lumpia, which never happens at a Filipino party. I ordered lumpia from here for Thanksgiving and they were perfect and everyone loved them. So whoever made the lumpia for Christmas this year was being really stingy with the meat. It was like eating greasy, deep fried lumpia wrapper. Hopefully that was just a one off and they don't continue to make their lumpia that way.

Kainan sa Kanto is a "Turo Turo" (translation: point point) style Filipino restaurant. That means that the food is laid out like a fast food Chinese restaurant and you simply point at what you want. You can get lechon, tocino, Filipino BBQ, garlic rice, adobo, turon, and and all the classic, crowd pleasing Filipino staples at a pretty reasonable price and you take it to go. It's not intended to be a dine in restaurant in any way, but that's what it is. The food is reasonably priced, and they're open promptly at 7am, which is perfect if I want to pick up a lunch before work. Incidentally, this is why I come here: I come here at 7am before work for phone orders for catering for work potlucks. (Note: I order 1-2 days ahead). Today, I got a half tray of pancit bihon for $55. I've ordered lumpia Shanghai from here and it was also popular (though I'd recommend that you get your own sweet chili sauce from your local Asian market as the sauce isn't great from here). If you are looking for made to order Filipino food to dine in with friends, then this is not it. I believe food is cooked mostly in the morning, so your miles may vary depending on when you come in; however my experience for Filipino breakfast and lunch is pretty reliable and it's pretty convenient for my catering needs.

9/19/24 Picking up food for auntie. While in town, I am missing the food from Kainan sa Kanto. As usual, Jose is there to greet me & said "See you next time" as I was leaving. Got some fried milkfish (bangus), veggies (green beans & cabocha combo and an order of pansit for auntie as requested. I bought beefsteak for Hubby. Theirs is usually good. The food wasn't looking particularly fresh as it is later in the day but I am hoping it's still as good as I remember it to be. There's still a lot of selection to choose from, the usual dinuguan, adobo, nenudo, ampalaya, embutido, bbq pork & chicken, etc. Only 2 turon but I resisted the purchase lolWill see when we eat the beefsteak later when we get home

Nice to know this place is local when I have cravings for fried pork belly. Normally the one at grocery stores can be tough but the lechon here was fatty, soft, crispy and meaty. I was happy. Came in on a Friday around 5:15pm? Was scared of slim picking but they still had a lot to offer. Their sisig has onions and bell peppers if you like that go for it. The turon was not as bad as it may look. The plantain was sweet and medium soft/firm. They have some seating but for the most part I think people just grab and go. It's nice they offer baked goods and even some grocery items. I prefer these mom and pop places b/c it's like someone's recipes etc. Every place is slightly different and you just look for which place you prefer.

I ordered the unhealthy stuff. lol Sisig & lechon kawali with garlic rice. Everything was delicious & they had many options. However, I was disappointed they didn't have the most basic soup dishes like tinola or sinigang. I needed that to help with the greasy things I ordered. Fair prices. The little store was jam packed with Filipino goodies everywhere. The auntie wasn't smiling much, but it's ok the food is delicious so I'll definitely be back.

Ok, if you are in the general area of Lakewood and craving for sone filipino food. This is a good spot. It's small, quaint and seating is kind of limited. I mean there are tables, but some of the tables were used for the baked goods that they sell. Its a mini store and fast food store. So if you are dining in with a group of four. You're good. If not, order to go and take your food home, to a local park or the beach area which is not far. Items are limited, but fir this type of store its good. You got your basic food choices which seems to be made in a daily basis and you get to choose from a mini buffet bar. Like I said, if you craving for quick filipino food and need it quick this is the spot. Flavor is good and the staff is always cheerful. Tip: Bathrooms are for staff and owners only.

More of like a 3.5 to me. I saw a review suggesting this place is better than Pinoy Pinay down the street (which I've frequented since I was a kid), but I don't feel the same way. The food just isn't as fresh, and way too pricy for the portions. However, they do have a lot of options to choose from and the flavors were good, nothing special. I feel like they'd be 5x better if the food was actually hot, but even sitting under warmers the food was kind of cold, and we dined in immediately after ordering. What we ordered:Two combo 2's, which comes with rice and two entrees. We did pancit, pork sisig, and bangus. We also got 10pc lumpia (45¢ per piece) and a chicken empanada. All the food had good flavor. I see a lot of reviews related to catering that praise the taste of the food which I totally agree with, however the difference in freshness is my issue. Bangus barely had any meat on it. Lumpia was cold as hell but surprisingly still very crispy. Empanada was good but nothing special. Total price came out to $38 for everything, which I feel like I could pay the same price for two people at a buffet in the area, or pay less at Pinoy Pinay. You could even pay this much and get way more food at Gerry's Grill.
