The menu looked overwhelming but the nice young lady at the register helped us navigate what we wanted.I got the regular cheese steak with peppers and onions and an order of fries. The bread was soft with good texture and the steak was seasoned perfectly. The fries were piping hot with good seasoning and came in a separate bag. Yes, a bag of fries!Overall, good experience and enjoyed all the Philly memorabilia on the walls! I've been to the other location on Beach Blvd. But this location you can sit inside and not just outside.

I wanted a hot sandwich for lunch. I had never eaten here before.Got the "John's Special" with some steak fries as my side. It was scrumptious. The bread was so tasty. Reminded me of baguette-ish. Not overly salty with the filling and quite cheesy goodness. I was only able to eat half. It's quite hefty especially with the fries. Well worth it. Gave the other half to my mom and she enjoyed it.Staff were nice and efficient. Food was ready relatively fast for pick up. I'd eat here again!

I love love love getting my steak fries and subs from John's. I know of nowhere else that has such wonderful artery clogging food stuffs. It makes my day every time I get to eat them. There's no online ordering that works even if it has the Clover order system set up. But in-person ordering doesn't take too long and it ends up being better. You will get to walk away with hot fresh fries that comes with delectable ranch sauce. It's my favorite things ever. Possibly more than the sub itself. I wish I am kidding. The sub is extremely filling so if eating alone, best to do a half instead of whole. I like getting a whole so I can have some now and later. Aside from the philly cheesesteak sub, my other favorite is the Godfather. It's actually hard to pick between the two because both are wonderful. Can't wait to get my weekly fix again next weekend!

I would eat here almost 3x a week back then sinced I work Nextdoor. Although it's been more than 10yrs....a cheesesteak shouldn't be that much different...was kinda disappointed...dry no flavor and barely any cheese. Pastrami...too salty and a bit dry as well. Then I heard new owner took over...might explained it.

Sometimes I just don't review because it is a great place, redundant, and we enjoy the food. This time I thought that I needed to update the review with our most recent visit to John's Philly Grille. We were surprised to see a nice busy place as we entered the small almost hole in the wall. Our turn to order. The lovely missus really likes #2 GR PEP CZ SK HALF with onions but no hot peppers. I am still on that difficult quest for a stellar pastrami sandwich my way, thus I ordered #23 PASTR WHOLE, no onions.. no cheese... no hot peppers...yes on pckles.... EZ Mustard, light mayo and HOT grilled. Two lemonades are brought to the table since there is no refilling. One bag of CHIPS. We sat at a table now that some of the crowd has departed. Oh boy, the sandwiches came all wrapped in white butcher paper. After two trials of pastrami at other sandwich places, "Perfect" is how I describe the John's Philly Grille abundance of Pastrami with pickles inside a tasty and crusty hoagie roll. We enjoyed John's Philly Grille and we will certainly be back for more.

If you've ever wanted to hold a symposium of ranting disguised as "casual lunch" while devouring a cheesesteak the size of your 6-foot partner's entire forearm, this is it (wow, he's so useful when I am describing the size of things, more reasons to keep him around *swoooon* lol). The cheesesteaks here are so impressively long that I half-expected them to come with their own zip code--or at least their own municipal code of conduct. But to be fair, I haven't explored Philly cheesesteaks SO... maybe they're all this big..?Every bite is of savory steak, melty cheese, and onions, but I'm guessing that's the standard. but it's big. When I ate the sandwich, I wondered if I had somehow entered a time loop (or if the cheesesteak spontaneously regenerated when I blinked). (My 5ft self shared with my 6 ft partner). Now, the atmosphere is prime for delivering unsolicited lectures to your captive audience. Whether it's your partner's argumentative friend (a.k.a. "the nemesis," or "the debate troll," or "Dr.__ evangelist" you know who I am talking about--I'm talking to YOU), and his friends, or a random onlooker entranced by the towering sandwich (and my everflowing, smooth logic), this is the perfect place to impart wisdom. My words mingled with sizzling grill sounds and the aroma of frying goodness, ensuring no one was bold enough to leave mid-lesson--because who would abandon a cheesesteak masterpiece halfway through? But I guess it didn't dissuade my partner from dissociating mid-ppt.In short, Come for the massive cheesesteaks; stay for the chance to talk at length, uninterrupted. Just don't drink too much water because they don't have a bathroom, and *I* had to leave my own lecture halfway through (OH THE SHAME, My flawless flow foiled).

One of the best philly cheesesteak I have had in Orange County. I gave the mushroom philly cheesesteak a try and it did not disappoint. Good sized portions with lots of different options will definitely come back and try other sandwiches. I also recommend getting the hot sauce that they offer, gives it a good kick with lots of flavor

Here's the unfortunate thing about John's Philly Grille:It's not the quality. While I've had lesser quality sandwiches from them in the past, they are generally consistent and offer generous portions for the price, considering the terrible costs of supply chain problems these days. The problem is their HOURS. They seem to have gone out of their way to make sure I can't order from them. They now close at 6pm. A cheesesteak is DINNER. You need to be open later. And Mondays are my "cheat day" that I would allow myself a cheese steak. They aren't open on Mondays anymore. Let's assume for a moment that these aren't hard and fast rules for me. But, literally EVERY SINGLE TIME in the last year I got an uncontrollable craving for a cheese steak, being genetically predisposed to craving one since I'm ACTUALLY a Philly native, John's is NEVER open when I want one. Honestly, I'd much rather order from you guys over Jersey Mikes, but guess who winds up getting my business? You've made it impossible to do business with me. You've forced me into not even considering you anymore to give you my business, and that's a pretty sad business model.
