JJ Fish Market

When you are craving that homestyle deep fried fish you have to visit JJ Fish Market. The fish is FRESH and perfectly seasoned. They fry it to delicious crispiness and load you up with fries. I like their catfish and sole because of that golden CRUNCHY coating on the outside and TENDER fish inside. I support this local business because they are Believers, their service is excellent and your order will be hot and ready when you arrive.

My boyfriend was craving some fried shrimp today so after my afternoon class we headed over to JJ's Fish Market off of Candlewood St. and Paramount Blvd. I didn't really have any set expectations upon arrival as I was starving and ready to grub on just about anything. We pulled into a deserted little shopping plaza where there are a variety of other small local businesses operating. As we walked in we were greeted by the young cashier almost immediately. I ordered the 4 pc. fried fish plate (Red Snapper) with a side of fries and my boyfriend went with the 20 pc fried shrimp plate with fries as well. The total came out to about $33 (also accounting that I ordered 5 extra tarter sauces priced at 25 cents a pop). I previously saw on Yelp that some pictures had servings of steak fries and others of crinkle-cut fries and I asked the cashier if I could get steak fries today. She seemed a little confused and simply stated that the fries were cut similar to steak fries so I was A-okay with that.After about 20 minutes we received our order. I should mention this is strictly a grab-and-go type of joint as there aren't any tables besides a few benches. Once we got home we were ready to get our grub on and I eagerly bit into a stale french fry. My boyfriend and I both agreed that we had overall received some old fries. My red snapper tasted like standard fried fish and was also a little on the salty side. This is like that kind of meal that you can put down after a few bites. Now don't get me wrong, is the food bad? No. It's just simply un memorable and nothing I would quite go out of my way for. However if you're craving fish and are in the area I'd recommend stopping by to judge for yourself.

I ordered 6 pieces of catfish and collard greens. The fish was tender and juicy and the greens were robust without being over salted. I wish the catfish pieces were larger because these were more like tenders.

This would have been a 5 star rating. Why I didn't give it five stars. The girl who took my order was young and seemed a bit nervous and inexperienced. I came with my family there were five different orders placed all orders had the same flavor and tasted fresh. However, I noticed that medium shrimp plate and medium shrimp and fish combo both had medium shrimp that were significantly different in size when medium shrimp should be one size no matter what meal is being ordered. I feel that they got over on orders of medium shrimp and fish combo and gave small shrimp. Fish and shrimp combo comes with four pieces of fish but this are half's not full pieces of entire fish. So untested if four full pieces of fish you are getting two pieces cut into half's to make four. I don't like when a business is skimpy and cuts corners. Overall the food was good and at a reasonable price and quality food. Portion size was ok! The food had great flavors! I got the shrimp and fish combo. The fish and shrimp were seasoned well and tasted fresh not super fishy! The place was small yet clean. The greens were bland like majority of places like most places when I added my own seasonings they were ready to eat. It's worth a try! :$

I grew up in South Central L.A. where fried fish markets are in abundance, now I live in North OC, where fish is mostly grilled. It's a healthier choice of course, but to me, nothing is tastier than a piece of crispy snapper. After an appointment in Downey, I googled fried fish near me and JJ Fish Market popped up. After reading a few reviews, I decided to give them a try. The inside was clean and had a very pleasant appearance. The customer service was great and food preparation timely. I ordered the 4 pc red snapper plate with fries. The fish was seasoned well and fried crispy like I love, fries were fries, nothing special. The only downside, the pieces of fish were really small, so small that I ate one piece while driving home and thought it was an extra little sample piece. When I got home and opened the container completely, I had to literally lol and said, "oh, that was a real piece?!?!" So my suggestion would be to either ask for larger pieces or order 6 pcs. Overall, very tasty.

Food is always great, prepared at the time of your order. Red snapper and shrimp are my favorites.

I used to love the fish & shrimp here but portions have become way too small. I ordered a 3 piece red snapper and shrimp and only got two really small pieces of fish. I didn't realize it was only two until I came home. I know times have changed but this is unacceptable, especially for $18. However, the fish is still good and so are the greens. I'll pass on the macaroni salad next time. Although I will be looking for another place after this. Check your order before you leave!

Today I was craving fish so I decided to go to JJ Fish market. This fish market has been recommended to me so I had to go check it out. I ordered catfish. It was hot and fresh just the way I like it. The only gripe I have is that I didn't get any tartar sauce nor hot sauce and that was very disappointing.

They raised their prices ridiculously. They use to be a real reasonable spot to come eat at. Now it's about 20 after tax for whatever you order. The prices online do not match the high prices inside the location.

Order two #17 one swai & shrimp with macaroni salad another with Red snapper w/ shrimp and fries. While both shrimp and fish are well seasoned a bit undercooked to my liking. My husband asked extra crispy , his was delicious. He personally didn't like the macaroni salad which I agree lacked flavor, you taste the bases (mayo, mustard and definitely vinegar) lacked seasoning no black pepper , smoked paprika. I also order a red beans and rice. They looked delicious from the picture. Very deceiving! Greens on top I believe just over powered the whole thing taste nothing like red beans and rice are suppose too,no roux either very dry. Also the tart sauce had a very over powering taste of mustard , it was too yellow. Overall , would I purchase again? Ehh maybe just the basic fried fish and shrimp with fries, everything else was a big no for me. Wasn't really worth $34.
