Jidaiya is a small ramen shop with nostalgic flair filled with old school decor and memorabilia. There's table seating and by the bar, and the service is pretty fast. I tried the followingTonkotsu Ramen $12.95: Chashu pork, egg, bamboo, seaweed, spinachChashu Dip $15.95: thick tsukemen with chashu pork, egg, bamboo, seaweed, and bonito flakesThe flavors and textures of both noodles are good; I like Tonkotsu Ramen better as the Chashu Dip broth is a bit too salty for me.Right off the 405 freeway, it's a great spot to grab quick meal to avoid traffic during rush hour; the price is good too with many items on the menu!

Have been wanting to try this place for the longest time since all my friends rave about its ramens. Finally, today I had the opportunity to try them.Located in a small plaza, the restaurant has a quite unassuming store front. However, when you walk in, it felt like you have stepped into a men-ya in Tokyo with its traditional Japanese layout. We were seated right away since we arrived before the dinner peak hours. The server was very attentive and took our orders of Tonkotsu and Shoyu ramen right away. The orders arrived in about 10minutes.Wow, from the broth standpoint these two ramens are quite contrasting. The Tonkotsu has a rich flavor with thicker broth and full of collagen. On the hand, Shoyu was on the lighter side with clearer broth and milder taste. About the noodles, Tonkotsu's is thicker than Shoyu's but both were cooked perfectly with good consistence. Both ramens came with chashu and they were quite tender. Not fatty but tender.I liked both ramens and would strongly recommend Jidaiya if you like ramen with strong, rich broths.

I came here for dinner with some good company and chose to try out their Chicken Yatai Ramen! This is the best meal for a cold night to warm you up and it's not overalls salty and well balanced with the portion of ramen and toppings! This particular one comes with thin noodle ramen which I prefer and it was perfectly cooked to my liking that has a bite to it. I tried my friend's Tonkotsu ramen and it was a bit more salty than I prefer for myself but more dense in flavor. The Chicken Yatai is more light and comforting if you don't want a heavy meal. Also their takoyaki was yummy with the crispy exterior and beautiful presentation except this dish didn't have the bonito flakes on top that you'd find at other places. Service was quick and the food came out in less than 10 minutes despite it being busy when we arrived.

While some of y'all may know, ya girl here, although half Japanese, is not a huge fan of the food of my peeps, Ramen included (squinty face emoji). This place though transported me back in time, to when I would visit my mom in J-town WAYYYYY Back when. The service was also very "back in the days" circa 1980's Little Tokyo J-town. The waiter was attentive, yet in a quaint gentle manner. I tried the Tonkatsu Ramen and the broth was extremely tasty, with just the right amount of fat that glistened ever so gently at the brim of my bowl. The prices are also very very reasonable. If you're looking for a new spot to try out, I definitely recommend trying Jidaiya Ramen.

The Raman here was sooo tasty and for a great price too. Even got to take some to go definitely heading here again soon!No wait we were seating right away and served no more than 15 mins after. Very unique and traditional decor. Tons of seating we ate at the bar but there are tables and chairs for family.

Full disclosure: we were here last week entirely because a random website with random discounts for random restaurants (clearly: not *Yelp*) sent us a discount coupon for it, and it's not *that* far from Long Beach, so I took it, haha. Verdict: service was great, the ramen itself was just pretty good - very rich, but not *super* pork-y tonkatsu broth, with good but not amazing chashu pork, and only one thin slice unless you pay a few bucks more (funny enough, I'd actually asked how much pork you get with it, the waitress said she thought 3 slices, so I said that sounded enough. The actual answer is, for the record, 1 slice.) Pretty solid amount of noodles and veggies, though, and great veggies - and the spicy red bomb is worth it if you like peppers. It isn't crazy spicy - just spicy enough. (My wife got a random pork dish that wasn't ramen, the ginger pork, which I also tried a bite of and said was good but not amazing - but I also probably wouldn't go to a ramen place and not get ramen!)That said, funny enough, we also shared a side order - they do have solid prices on add-ons, including 4 dollars for 3 pieces of Karaage chicken and some fried rice. The fried rice was just ok - the Karaage chicken is OMG. There's a Karaage place down the street from us that claims to have won a bunch of awards - well, it's not bad, but the Karaage here is weirdly fantastic. So maybe I'm wrong about going to a ramen place and not getting ramen, cause if I were back here, I'd probably actually just skip the ramen and go straight for Karaage. No alcohol, their only drink choices are $3 cans of soda or unsweetened green tea (which also wasn't the green tea pictured on the menu, but it was as good of a brand, anyway). Other very weird thing, at least when we were there: they didn't have napkins on the table, but... tissues?

I pray that this place never closes. Japanese American here and I loveeee this restaurant so much. It makes me feel like I'm visiting my late grandmas house. It has a warm home feel to it and smells absolutely delicious right when you walk in. It is a very small location so don't go last minute so the workers can go home on time. The Tokyo yatai shoyu broth ramen is perfect for you if you do not like the overbearing salty and spicy broths which is so hard to find. It is also great if you have a lil sore throat coming on. The noodles are authentic style. They have combination options where you can pick a side of chicken or gyoza with your ramen. Please never close down! Tysm

Very authentic ramen. Noodles are cooked perfectly. Keeping in mind each region of Japan has different cooking styles, the noodles at Jidaiya are thicker and heavier with a good chew on them. The broth is rich and aromatic. Service here is quick and efficient. Ambience is reminiscent of ramen places seen in photos of Japan.
