The catfish was decent, the tartar sauce, hush puppies and macaroni salad was actually really good. The fries were average and the pieces of bread were just pieces of bread. The low rating is mostly for the location of the establishment. I Stopped by James Fishman while on vacation and would not recommend to anyone visiting Los Angeles. A cautionary tale to remember is the tragic story of the late rapper PnB Rock and his visit to Roscoe's chicken and waffles while in L.A. If you don't know who that is feel free to google him. Based on what I saw, it was a subtle reminder that L.A. isn't just palm trees, beaches, and celebrities. Some of the rougher locations around the city, as sad and unfortunate as it might seem or just for locals and locals only... and I'm fine with that. Needless to say, I definitely won't be revisiting James's fish market.

The fried fish is great. It's always clean when I go. Service is fast. I've tried the catfish steak for the first time and it wasgreat. The fish doesn't taste fishy if that makes sense.

I ordered a 5 Piece Catfish dinner, got all the way home to Long Beach open the container to discover they gave me 2 1/2 pieces of fish. I'm shocked, and very disappointed. Never again!

My family always come here no issues. Now since it's been awhile they have now changed the coating for frying the fish and it's awful now. The cost has gone up a bit as well.

I received old fish. I was a loyal customer for about 2 months, then on Friday, February 14, 2025, to my surprise my fish was old (cooked the day before or earlier). It was intentional because the pieces were larger than normal, thinking I would not complain. I'm adding this fish market to my boycott list.
