Ichiban Sushi

There are cockroaches roaming around the restaurant, even on tables.The waitresses were very friendly and the food was mediocre. I feel bad that they are having to work in these conditions they most likely CANNOT control. One of the waitresses who caught a cockroach that was on our table was so apologetic and was not their first time doing it. This is clearly a management issue of not maintaining the building, outdated tables and booths, etc., and NOT the waitresses who are there just trying to make a living and not getting paid sufficiently.

This place is still the best. Friendly, hospitable servers, super fresh sushi, clean restaurant, ambiance is slightly noisy but, that's pretty much the same with most sushi places. It's unfortunate that the 1 star reviews that are fake and a blatent attempt to destroy this business by nearby competition

I really like the sunset rolls, and beef udon, the service is okay and the lighting is very relaxing. Good place to go when ur hungry.

Love this place been coming here for more than 20 years! The service is always great, food is fresh and yummy! It's a nice quiet place located in the heart of Downey and has been a staple for locals and all around. We love all the different options for rolls and sushi. Today I loved coming in with my daughter and having some great service and it's always nice to be greeted. Will be coming back here again and again.

This is what happens when you order water at Ichiban. And the water taste like it came straight out of the tap.

First and last time at this run down wanna- be sushi joint! Fish not fresh, dirty as heck and customer service fromthe older Asian lady(maybe owner) extremely rude! Demanding a bigger tip. And when we didn't she said, " that's how THEY are". So very racist of her. They meaning=hispanics. DO NOT SUPPORT SUCH RACISM!!! I am appalled of being discriminated

Food was absolutely delicious! Service was great! Ambiance is cozy and ideal for all party sizes. My family and I tried the Ichiban House Roll, Firecracker roll w/ fried onions (must add-on this gem!), Gyoza and Peach sake that was not too sweet like Soju! Overall, we enjoyed this hidden gem! 10/10 would always come back!

I visited here just earlier today. This is a review primarily on a service rudeness. In particular there's a waitress that works there who after I had paid my check essentially came back to me and demanded a higher tip and demanded something else 18% or higher. This was not owed to her by any means. I will not be going there anymore. The money didn't matter immensely to me so I gave her something extra a little over 18%. The dinner was fine until that point. After that she weirdly patted me on my cheeks. What waitress does this?Aside from that, the food was fine. No complaints about anything else.

This one has been resting on my drafts & honestly I was conflicted with my rating. It was either a 2 or 3 star review. The sushi was honestly not good. I'm not going to lie & say I liked it, because I did not. The rolls did not taste fresh, the fish & rice weren't fresh in my opinion. I've visited a few sushi spots in my day & I can tell this wasn't it. My MIL to be wanted to take the family to try her spot (she hasn't been to other spots) the majority of votes won (7 people) that we didn't really like the sushi. A few weeks later we treated them to A.Y.C.E in HB & boy did they love it. No offense Ichiban, but this might fly with those that haven't tried other sushi spots. I know the difference of those using fresh ingredients versus using up what you have left before it spoils. I will say this though this place makes a good udon soup. At least I did not leave completely disappointed, the udon soup was flavorful. The service was ok, could've been a little more attentive. Would I visit again? probably not, but if I'm in the area & happen to crave Udon soup I might hit this place.
