Oh Hokkaido Buffet... you are an institution. To frame this review, I will share that my wife and I have a running joke, where literally anytime she asks me where I want to eat dinner, I say "Hokkaido Buffet". The reason for this joke is that she doesn't dig this place, but I have a weird nostalgic fondness for it. We rarely actually come here, because we're well past the "all you can eat" phase of our lives.ANYHOO. The review:After paying the all-in buffet price a cavernous, dim, square shaped space opens to you, flanked on three sides by banks of every kind of vaguely Asian food you can imagine. Yes, a noodle grill. Yes, sushi. Yes, hot lamps with fried shrimp and dumplings in trays drying in their own oil. Plus, a sliced beef and pork station, and a whole bunch of other stuff. And a dessert station. The food itself is just alright, but what do you expect for all you can eat?I think my nostalgia for Hokkaido Buffet is about its particularly Asian / Latin American West Coast Americana meets sad diner vibe. This is a place where families who eat Carl's Jr on the regular come to treat themselves. It's where I remember that I sometimes stuff myself simply because I'm stressed, or down. There's something slightly depressing but also beautiful about that. We all need to all you can eat sometimes.

It's been awhile the quality of the foods that I know on this buffet was really good until today had special lunch for my mom's birthday. The sushi place was not fresh at all and I didn't even finish my plate due to the after taste of old raw fish. Even the cooking side while you wait, the meat steak and shrimp was not fresh at all. Mostly, Foods are recycled except desserts. I felt very sick after that lunch and regretting having lunch there to drive 10 miles from home. Place looks okay, server was excellent despite the foods are sucks, we still tipped the service for doing good jobs on our drinks refill.I wasted $65 lunch for 3 persons!!!FOOD QUALITY, QUALITY, QUALITY FIRST!!!!!

We visited this location for dinner, on a holiday, and the food was just okay. Due to it being busy (very busy) it was great to see the choices. There was so much food that was available to all patrons: A teppanyaki station which had a variety of vegetables and protein, a prepared meal station that included all of the favorite Chinese dishes, I.e. beef broccoli , orange chicken, noodles, fried rice, etc. traditional Chinese soups, a Sushi station, oysters on the half shell were provided in the seafood station and last but not least a desert station. It was all great however some items were not as fresh as expected. If you did not get your food cooked Teppanyaki then you selected items that may have been under a heat lamp or chafing, and had been sitting out. I nor any of my 16 guests got ill from any of the food so I must give them their props. Thank you for a real buffet, fit for all. But next time I will try going at the lunch hour (when they open).

Decent buffet. This place is so nostalgic, came here many years ago but didn't remember the name of the restaurant. My coworker decided to eat here so now I know. This place is very inexpensive for all you can eat. They have sushi, meat, and some clams. Sushi was okay. My salmon nigiri had a bone in it. Salad section was just lettuce. They have lots of greasy food too. Ice cream machine was the worse where it didn't taste like ice cream. The chocolate ice cream tasted like chocolate flavored shaved ice. No milk at all. Also would like to see toppings for the ice cream like oreo or sprinkles. They also have a guy frying your food or order which is very nice. Interior is huge, glad there's plentiful of tables and seats. Food is very limited in selection. There's staffs that constantly take your dirty dishes and they refill your soda if you order it. This place is fair value for the price you pay versus the quality of the food.

this place was OK. They did have a lot to choose from... customer service was OK this place is pretty big. would be a great location for parties and work meeting stuff like that the food I wanna say seven out of 10 a few items that I thought they were gonna be hot were cold. The cold items that were supposed to be cold or a little warm if that makes any sense but overall experience was OK. They did have a Mongolian station. I will be back to try that for sure the dessert section I do have to say was pretty good. They have pretty good cheesecake when I went out for seconds it was gone. . lol they have self serve ice cream and they even have a chocolate fountain.... but I'm definitely gonna give this place another shot. One thing I dislike is that they charge you an extra 10% for the gratuity even if you're just by yourself... I'm not sure how that thing works but they charged me 10% for the tip.... I believe the tip should be set at the table..

Had to leave a review, I had a great lunch experience. Compared to other buffets I have been to, this place had more variety, plenty of space in the dining area, and a working ice cream machine. Heavy points on the ice cream machine, lol, because I love vanilla ice cream. Anyways, I came at 11 and was seated right away by the servers, who were very attentive and helpful. The food choices were plenty, I was even impressed they had spam musubi. Sushi had many good choices to pick from, I enjoyed the salmon cheese roll and the sashimis. Great lunch, til next time

This is our second time at Hokkaido Buffet in Long Beach and the two times we've been here we noticed they actually changed the menu but kept the traditional buffet food items like orange chicken, teriyaki chicken, black pepper beef, coconut shrimp, salmon, prime rib, ham and sushi.Customer service here is excellent. The waiters kept coming around to replenish our drinks and pick up plates that are done. They would ask first if you're done with your plate before picking it up. They also have fresh sushi and a good variety of sushi. They offer 10 kinds of sushi. There's also a section for fruits and vegetables. They have plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. The section for dessert is bountiful. Majority of their desserts are on a closed section with clear covers. There are different kinds of pastries, cakes and cookies. They also offer soft serve and ice cream. The food replenishment takes a little bit of time though so you would have to check a couple of times when the newly cooked shrimp or newly grilled salmon is out.

Can't go wrong with $24 seafood buffet. We try to stop by here whenever we're in the area. This place has been here forever. Huge parking lot. Love that they have a Mongolian station, they cook everything fresh for you. The variety here is great. Sushi options are good. The hot food section is decent - from Chinese to American BBQ. Salad station. Desserts - the typical sliced cakes & almond cookies, they have candy, soft serve, & a chocolate fountain. The few times we've been here our servers have been great. We hosted a 70th birthday here and they blocked off a section for us. Nothing great or nothing horrible about this place. You do get a pretty good bang for your buck for what they have to offer here. $18 for weekdays & $24 for dinner & weekends is a great deal. It's just a pretty run down interior, some of the booths have ripped seats. Restrooms need some major fixing - the locks don't work. Lol.

Visited Hokkaido on a Friday afternoon for lunch. Parking was easy and we were immediately greeted at the front by the host. After paying, the host showed us to our table, right in front of the hot food. I scoped out the different sections and was not impressed, especially by the sushi, dessert, and cold food area (e.g. salad and fruit). It looked like everything had been sitting out for awhile and was not appealing. The cakes looked stale sitting in the display case. The sushi chef was restocking some of the rolls, but nothing looked fresh or appetizing. Seeing him make a roll with lettuce in it threw me off. The tempura rolls were falling apart. The hot food wasn't that much better, even after new trays were brought out from the kitchen. Quality was lacking in appeal and flavor. I'm also not sure what chicken tacos, enchiladas, and pasta are doing on the menu. The egg tarts looked burnt with black tops and deflated centers. The only good thing was the marinated beef from the grill station, but not enough for me to go back for seconds. The place is large inside, but it looks dated and dusty. There are long tables in the dining areas, so don't be surprised if you're sharing a table with another party with a chair or two for distance. Overall, not worth it.
