Hako

The best katsu in OC hands down. Hako is a very popular restaurant that specializes in Japanese food. They get very busy during dinner so there may be a small wait time to get seated. They are most known for their different katsu which is priced fairly and comes in huge portions. The pork katsu was crispy and tender and dipped with the thousand island like sauce was an extremely satisfying bite.Everything I've had on the menu was fantastic so you can't go wrong with anything. This is becoming a weekly place to eat at!

The katsu is amazing and crunchy like a candy bar. I would come here every day if I could. The portion size is for a giant and the service is in the same way amazing. There is a reason why yelpers will find this spot accurate for eating out. My co worker got the cheese katsu and it was perfectly melted. I was surprised by the salad the dressing was very tasty. We were all surprised by the little additions like the carrot cut into a flower. I also loved the side dishes that they added in.

Whether it's lunch or dinner, Hako is a great place for a delicious and filling meal for a reasonable price and service is also quick! The wait can be long, depending on when you go, but there is a supermarket right next door and shops all around to browse around while waiting. The waitlist moves pretty quick too.Got the Cheese Tonkatsu, Rainbow Roll, and Crunch Fire Dragon Roll.- Cheese Tonkatsu: I usually get this, and it's always so warm and cheesy! Nice crunch, well-balanced with the cabbage salad and pickled daikon it comes with, yummy with the creamy almost-sweet-and-sour like sauce!- Rainbow Roll (not pictured): Pretty average, can't go wrong with a classic roll.- Crunch Fire Dragon Roll (not pictured): I like this one! Shrimp tempura and imitation crab inside, spicy tuna outside with some crunch and sauce on top. A good choice!Overall, Hako is great for a family outing or a meal with friends. One of the best katsu places in OC!

Clean restaurant with nice ambience, we tried couple of sushi rolls and potato croquette and edamame for starters, everything was amazing. Service is great too! Must try angel hair sushi rolls.

I tried the cheese tonkatsu and Hako tonkatsu, and both were incredibly crispy and flavorful. The portions were generous. There is a Yelp waitlist at the door, but you cannot join through the app. It was quite busy on the weekend with a 40-minute wait. Each order comes with soup, cabbage salad, rice, and dipping sauce. The to-go boxes were well-packaged and looked great. Overall, we were satisfied with our meal and plan to return to try the udon and sushi options.

One of the best places for Katsu and Sushi. I came here based on other friends wanting to go here and I was not disappointed. The Katsu was crunchy and flavorful, while the sushi had lots of texture.The service was fast and efficient so we ended up getting our food within 15 min.If you want to eat here then come a little early to put your name in the waitlist!

Hako had a nice and friendly staff, and the store was clean despite being pretty busy. I tried the cheese tonkatsu, which had a great cheese pull and was delicious. However, the Hako tonkatsu was much bigger and just as delicious.

Very good tonkatsu at not too bad of a price. The value proposition is pretty strong with their entrees. Breading didn't come off of any of my pieces too! Curry that came with it was really tasty but I was surprised how strong of a kick the spicy version had.The agedashi tofu was amazing and totally worth getting. Freshly fried outside with a soft and smooth interior!

I am so lucky to live only 5 minutes away from hako!This spot has been my new comfort food and I've already had it twice this week! Their udon, katsu, curry, and sushi all are a 5/5 and I would highly recommend the California roll! It's super soft and the filling is so creamy. I was pleasantly surprised by it! Not only is the food delicious, but it's good value. My fiancé and I got udon, katsu set with curry + California roll, and a baked salmon roll all for around $50 (excluding tip). Definitely, lots of food for your money! The only downside was that the tempura for the shrimp tempura udon was soggy since they place it in the broth. A pro tip (for myself) next time would to ask the staff to have the shrimp tempura on the side :)
