While visiting Carson, CA for work, I went to Darrow's on a recommendation. I was not disappointed, nor will anyone else who likes delicious food and friendly people.I was greeted warmly, and given a sample of the file gumbo, which I was intending to order. The sample confirmed it. I ordered it with jambalaya rice, corn bread and a hurricane. As I enjoyed the delicious meal, the owner mingled with what I thought were the customers, until I was informed that we were actually family. The decor reflects the New Orleans roots of the owner with a charming mural.I will definitely go back before I go home.

Never got to try the food . . . Placed an online order, for a total of $107.76. However, my card was charged $129.31. Called to figure out how to get a refund on the difference. The woman I spoke to basically said "I don't know what to tell you, that's not what I'm seeing on my end." I asked if orders placed through their website were processed through "Fast Casual Eatery" and she said "No." Well, that's who processed the online order, which is obviously what they're using on their website. Tried to convince me my bank "added some sort of fee." She then puts a gentleman on the phone who tells me he's just cancelling the order, and I get hung up on.I'm now out of $129.31, with no food. I wouldn't trust this business. If you insist on patronizing them, pay with cash, and don't let them anywhere near your credit card. If you've purchased from them in the past with a credit card, be sure to check that the original total matches what you were charged.

Felt like home and family. Food healed the soul just like New Orleans. Awesome, you hear? Music was great. Parking was free, plentiful and nearby. Service was warm and friendly. Atmosphere was welcoming. Bathrooms clean. Terrific, can't wait to go back.

We went to the Mardi Gras Festival in Long Beach and was super busy and someone recommended this place called Darrows. Let me tell you the owners came up to our table and gave us a run down of the foods. Very friendly and helpful workers and the food was so delicious. We ordered everything from catfish po boys to chicken and jambalaya, the list goes on and on. Had to try the beignets and peach cobbler. I will definitely be back when I'm in the neighborhood.

I rarely write a review the instant I walk in the door after trying a place but this restaurant deserves it. First off, parking looks non existent from the front but there's a big free parking garage behind the restaurant that you can enter off of Avalon or Carson. It's close to the freeway so it's easy to get to.The instant I walked in the door I felt like I was visiting family. All the staff here were genuinely welcoming and friendly and seemed excited I was a first time customer. They were giving me free samples of gumbo and let me try their Hurricane and Punch rum mixers before I ordered. They also explained everything on the menu. I went with the catfish plate with collard greens and "bean balaya" which is a half size portion of red beans and jambalaya so you get to try two sides and it only counts as one! Also a choice of French bread of cornbread. GET THE CORNBREAD. The sample of gumbo they gave me was mind blowing and that was just the broth. Best I've ever had so I will have to get the entree next time. The Rum Punch was so good and not only was it fruit punch flavored but it packed a punch. Was really strong drink. My plate came out smelling like heaven and looked just as good. Every single thing on my plate I was thinking "this is the best I've had". The cornbread was phenomenal. I could not believe how good the cornbread was. It was crunchy on the outside yet moist on the inside and tasted almost like cake. The catfish was also super crunchy yet retained it's moisture. It came with hotsauce, tartar sauce, and "gator sauce" which was a peppery ranch sauce dyed green but the fish was so good I barely used any condiments. All the side dishes were flavor packed and loved them all. When I was about done I ordered the fried chicken breast plate with tater salad and side salad for my wife as take-out. Even with the 25 minute drive home the chicken was still piping hot and crunchy. My wife let me take a bite and it was delicious. I like how they cut up the breast into strips so you got more of the wonderful tasting batter. The potato salad was heavy on the mustard and pickle flavors which was great. Salad had a tasty herbal vinaigrette.Truly loved this place and cannot wait to return. Next time I want to try the gumbo or the soft shell crab po'boy. Both maybe????

As a Disabled Veteran, Local Vetterans Rep for the State of California and Commissioner of on Veterans Affairs Commission for the city of Carson, I was told by THIS business to go outside with my Registered Service Animal so I am filing a COMPLAINT with ADA and I will advocate AGAINST DOING BUSINESS WITH DARROW'S EVER! HORRIBLE SERVICE!They ALSO LIED to GrubHub and claimed I picked up the order when I told them to CANCEL the order! Don't do business with LIARS with HORRIBLE SERVICE!

Ok, it's way overdue. Hubby and I had found this place on Yelp. Located in the busiest area of Carson. We parked in the parking structure. Ambiance was very inviting as soon as we walked into the place. Line wasn't very long but it too awhile to get up to order at the register. The way it was set up and one person at the register their process a bit slow. We ordered our food and tried to find a table to sit at, small sitting area with tables back to back. Bit of a tight squeeze. Foods were made upon order so it took a little longer. Once we got our food the restaurant was pretty packed to the rim. We had to eat fast to make space for their other customers. I did enjoy food very flavorful. Hubby loved more than me. I would return but not around the lunch rush, way too packed.
