"only writing a review because of the current 3.9 stars when they absolutely deserve at least a 4.5. we came here one night when we had to wait for sushi at the spot in the lot and now crave this place regularly. I think we've tried most if not all the appetizers including the 48 hour fries, chips and dip, deviled eggs, tuna tartare, tostadas, and bacon wrap dates. The dates while a common place that many restaurants are so good here for really what stands out is the deviled eggs with the crab. When it comes to entrées, we order the halibut every time, the celeriac purée is so good it will have you licking the plate. Desserts and drinks are also incredible here just truly can't go wrong"
"Went to Baleen to celebrate Valentine's Day. The service was great, the restaurant aesthetics were nice, clean and classy and food was delicious! There's valet parking only BUT it's validated for 2 hours!Definitely new date night spot."

"My dog (yes dog friendly) and I popped in for a happy hour bite. I ordered the hummus and the cucumbers, but the waiter suggested I just combine them and save a buck. I got a lavender beer, it wasn't my fave but wasn't awful. Fun to try something new. I'm pretty basic and tend to find their food too fancy, but I enjoyed this visit. Sit outside and enjoy the view!"
"This past holiday season, my wife and I decided that instead of cooking on Christmas, we would do a dine out. We got an email from Shade/Zinc saying that there were doing a dinner and we thought that would be fun! We're locals and have been there for happy hour and the food (and drinks) were always pretty good. When we made a reservation, we asked to be inside since it was a bit cold that day and it gets chilly and damp in MB at night. When we got there, the guy at the front started to seat us outside. Luckily, the manager was there and changed things for us back to the inside. When we sat down, the wait staff we had was a bit rushed (but at least nice). The menu was $95 for 3 courses (bread, salad, main and dessert). We ordered drinks (pretty good) and then had to wait a bit to order. When we were sitting there with our drinks, we noticed that it was pretty cold inside. People were all wearing jackets - including us. Why? Both entry doors were propped open creating a nice cold breeze. We asked the waitstaff to please consider closing at least one of the doors and they said they would "try". Sigh.Next, the food came out. Bread was meh and the salad was miniscule. When the mains came, at that point I asked for another cocktail. My wife had the polenta (didn't finish) and I had one of the meat dishes. Pretty unforgettable and a bit tough (I can't even remember what it was lol). once we finished the main, the wait person came back and said my cocktail was on the way. I had them cancel it since it was so late in arriving. For dessert I has the cake popsicles (3 tiny ones). The dessert reminded us of what we could get at Peet's Coffee. Sigh. At this point, they finally closed the entry doors, nearly 90 minutes later. Maybe the baby in a carriage bundled up in blankets in the middle of the dining area got it done. It was a very funny Christmas experience. We laughed quite a bit on the way home."
"I've been coming to the Wine Lab in Costa Mesa for years whenever I'm in Orange County and it's become my go to spot for a nice glass of wine & good vibes. This place has been a wonderful addition to the LAB with multiple dining places/shops in the same plaza. It's a great spot with a lovely ambiance, good wine, and delicious cheese is always a treat. Whenever I come in I'm always greeted by the friendly staff and mellow atmosphere. The Tasting flights are fantastic for exploring different varieties and they have such a wide selection, It's like a journey through flavors! They also have a wine shop and you can pick up a bottle of any of the wines they have on the menu. Definitely drop by if you're in the area and looking for a good wine bar."
""Money Sea" or "Sea Money" as Okane Umi translates to English...or maybe it's "Show me (see) the money!"I've been here a few times now and I always enjoy myself. Really, my only complaint is the prices but then, sushi everywhere is pricey so this gripe isn't solely about Okane Umi. Still, I do think they could lower some of the prices to attract more clientele but maybe they don't need to because Okane Umi is quite popular. I guess I miss the old Club Sushi (Hermosa Beach) days with my Dad. We were monthly regulars of their amazing Happy Hour which included 1/2 price sushi and specials on drinks. I'd love to see that at Okane Umi and I'd definitely frequent it more often. But I digress. The restaurant itself is modern and attractive and the staff is friendly and attentive. Our most recent visit was for my birthday and my Mom was treating us. I'd made sushi at home multiple times of late so I let her pay for us this time. It is DEFINITELY cheaper to make sushi at home (I paid $6.75 for two pieces of salmon sushi at Okane Umi and I can get a big hunk of sushi grade salmon at Tokyo Central for $10-$12 that makes about 16 pieces), that's for sure, and I've gotten quite good at it, I must say. But every once in awhile, it's nice to turn it over to the professionals. And professionals they are. In addition to regular sushi (which is of very good quality), Okane Umi's menu is large with many creative rolls being offered. I really like how the menu has pictures and full descriptions of each roll.Of the more expensive rolls, we ordered the Hulk Roll ($17.50 - Inside: Spicy smashed Softshell Crab, Crab Meat / Outside: Avocado, Spicy Smashed Soft Shell Crab / With: Sriracha on the Top, Eel Sauce on the Side), Yellowtail Cilantro Roll ($18.50 - Inside: Cucumber, Yellowtail, Cilantro / Outside: Yellowtail, Serrano Pepper / With: Ponzu Sauce on the Top) and two of the rather ridiculously costly Umi Handrolls ($24.50 each - Inside: Cucumber, Chopped, Bluefin Tuna, Sea Urchin, Black Tobiko, Cilantro, Jalapeno, Green Onion / Outside: Wrapped with Soy Paper).Aside from the Umi Handroll, I'm not sure why the other two rolls were priced considerably higher than 'Premium Rolls' which are priced higher than the 'Basic Rolls'. Basic rolls (like California ($7), Spicy Tuna ($8.50), Salmon Skin ($8.50) seem fairly priced; we orderd a Salmon Skin roll and it was tasty. But then the Premium Rolls are $12 - $17. Then the Okane Specialty Rolls are $14 - $24.50 with most being in the $18 average range. Okane Chefs Special Rolls are around the prices of the Okane Specialty Rolls. Oh, and I looked up what Okane means...MONEY!Again, I'm just bitching about high prices in general and these are pretty average compared to other good sushi bars of the same calibre. I just think the Hulk Roll and the Spicy Yellowtail roll could come down a few bucks...and well, the Umi Roll...it was definitely special but I too think that could come down a few bucks as well.As for the taste of the rolls, everything was great. I'd say the Hulk Roll was my least favorite and the my favorite is always the Yellowtail Cilantro Roll. The Umi Handroll was new for me and really delicious but I keep thinking about that $49 charge for the two of 'em.We also ordered the Honey Salmon Roll ($15.50 - Inside: Crabmeat, Fresh Salmon / Outside: Deep Fried (Seaweed Outside) / With: Eel and Spicy Mayo on top) and it was tasty as well as a couple veggie rolls (veggie tempura roll and a cucumber, avocado, cream cheese roll) in soy paper ($1.50 upcharge) for my non-seafood eating wife ($12 & $12.50) and she enjoyed them very much. We ordered a Salmon Roll for $9.50 and it was good. The sushi was great...three of us had 2 pieces of salmon ($6.75 each order) and 2 pieces of yellowtail ($7.50 each order). I had wanted an order of Ankimo sushi but they brought sashimi for $19.50; honestly, I didn't catch the mistake at the time but I certainly would have preferred the $7.50 charge for 2 pieces of sushi or even $11.75 for 3 pieces of sashimi. I mean, 5 pieces of monkfish liver for the only guy who would eat it is a bit much and I LIKE Ankimo....sushi.Our attentive server brought us free ice cream for my birthday which was a nice touch. Now, we ordered a lot and the bill was high for the 5 of us, in my opinion, especially with 1 non-fish eater and no booze. 3 of us ordered non-alcoholic drinks and the total with 20% tip was $306. One of the reasons we ordered so much is that my Mom (with memory issues) kept saying she had had only 2 pieces of sushi and she was still hungry. My kiddos quickly learned to also say that they had had only 2 pieces of sushi so they could get Grandma to order more. I had to put an end to this rather quickly but we were stuffed when we left.Bottom line: Great sushi, service and ambiance at standard (yet high for me) prices.Rock bottom line: We'll definitely be back next time this home sushi chef (ME) needs a break. lol"
"Me & my family have been going to Furaibo for many years! It has the tastiest Japanese style tabasaki chicken wings (comes in sweet, mild, spicy & extra spicy)! Furiabo is a Japanese tapa resturant that has various shareable dishes. They also have bento boxes if you want to get a little bit of everything! Things to try if you have never been: fried baby shrimp, baby halibut, and agenasu (fried eggplant in shoyu sauce). We love this place! Definitely a good place to go if you are looking for authentic small Japanese plates with good friendly service!"

I have visited The Corner frequently over the past decade and it continues to impress where other restaurants have failed as they age. Food quality has remained high, service remains stellar and the drinks are as good as ever. Perhaps this is a function of the owner not only remaining the constant, but also being involved behind the bar, in the kitchen, etc. Food wise, the menu is a mix of rotating seasonal items and several mainstays which have remained on the menu over the years. It's a great mix of something new when I'm feeling adventurous and the comfort of the items I know when I just want a good meal. Everything is made from scratch and with love. A couple favorites are the short rib tacos, ahi tostadas, burger and bacon wrapped dates.Drinks are great and super crafty - all the mixers are made in-house from what I can tell and the selection of booze is second to none. Prices have increased slightly, but still full below what I'd be paying elsewhere. Good beers on rotation as well. My favorites are the Old Fashioned and Clockwork Orange.Atmosphere is a mix between a trendy craft bar on one side and an intimate dining experience on the other. Can get a bit noisy at times, but I don't mind. There are a lot of places that talk about food quality and making things from scratch, but over time they will give way to profit margin and market pressure. From what I can tell, the owner at The Corner has stayed true to his mission from day one and continues to pump out scratch made good and craft cocktails at a reasonable price.

Fantastic restaurant and bar in the middle of manhattan beach! The ambiance is a comfortable modern indoor and outdoor space that provides a great respite from shopping. Great food! We had the crispy rice and tuna...delicious and maybe the best I've had. The sandwiches are amazing and the salads are inventive as well as hearty. Loved the drinks menu and ended with a blackberry smash. Delightful and not too sweet. Service was great and lots of beautiful people in that role. Loved it...

This is a fantastic place to go solo, as a couple or with friends. Every staff member knows the wines & beers they serve well and are eager to help you select something you'll enjoy. I went solo on a Saturday night. I opted for the Batender's Choice flight of whites. Liz selected an array of 3 whites that perfectly matched the summer night:- sweet, bubbly Moscato - crisp Italian blend- light viognier Great music was playing, fun people watching & the food looked amazing. (I ate before I arrived, or I would have ordered a cheese board) I measure good service by how often my water glass is refilled - and the staff was top notch! I highly recommend the Wine Lab for a night out, date night, or treat for yourself.

"My treat!" I told my Auntie GodMom. Asked what she wanted for a Saturday lunch. She responded with, "Sushi." So I did some research a couple of days beforehand and found this gem. There were a couple more places in the running - both not too far from here - but this won out because I personally liked the menu better. Picked her and Uncle up and we were well on our way! It isn't very far from their home (which was another reason I chose this place) so we were pulling up in no time. We arrived within 30 minutes of opening time and every spot on their parking lot was available. "Not a good sign..." Uncle says. Eh, we're early, and I didn't wanna judge based solely on that. First timer customers of the day, so we got our pick where to sit. We were immediately given menus and glasses of water. The sushi bar was open so one can see everything going on there. The overall place was clean and had this homely feeling. I felt comfy immediately. I told my company that I had already scanned the menu and if it's alright, I'll order a bunch of stuff, and if they're still hungry after that, we can always order more. They loved that idea since they didn't really need (nor wanted) to think. EDAMAME: A perfect starter. Boiled soft, not too salty. It got our appetite going! MISO SOUP: Also another perfect starter. The miso and water ratio was a perfect blend. Broth had depth. It was a nice tummy warmer on a cold SoCal day, CRAB CAKES: I know, they're shaped like balls, but still pretty tasty. Maybe it's just me, but I tasted both real and imitation crab (more imitation than real) in each bite. They we're still prepped well and delicious. Mayo dip wasn't needed but altered the flavor on a different level. SPANISH MACKEREL SUSHI: Fresh and tasty. It's not as vinegary as some I have previously had, but delish nonetheless. GRILLED SALMON KAMA: A bit under seasoned but grilled almost to perfection. We all enjoyed this, most especially the fatty parts! The meat came off the fishbone so easily. Get this! SASHIMI SAMPLER: It was a combo of salmon, tuna, yellowfin and albacore. Every single one was incredibly fresh. They all stood on their own. If you're a sashimi fiend, this is for you! DEEP-FRIED SOFT SHELL CRABS: I never skip this whenever I see it on the menu. Neither does my AuntieGM, apparently. We each had a half. The batter was very thin, so it didn't take away from the crabs' main essence. It honestly didn't need the dip, it was great on its own. Dip does give it a different flavor profile which wasn't bad either. SHRIMP TEMPURA: Like the crabs, the batter was also thin so it didn't take away much from the shrimp. Nothing to call home about but delicious. Good crunch on the outside, nice and juicy on the inside. Elevated flavor with the tempura dip. FOOD: 4.5. SERVICE: 3.5. VALUE: 4. Soooo worth it! PARKING: Private lot. Not an issue for a weekend lunch. OVERALL: 4. AuntieGM and Uncle each ordered a chicken and pork Katsu as their mains. I guess their eyes were a lot more hungry than their stomachs because they came into realization they were full by the time they arrived on the table. No biggie, they took it to-go to snack on later. Auntie GM loved the edamame so much, she put in an order to go to have as an app when she has her happy hour at home. The whole place had gotten packed within an hour of our arrival. That parking lot - as big as it was - was halfway occupied during our run. They were impressed. As was I, and that's always a plus PLUS. They loved it so much, there are already plans of a return visit, "Next time, my treat!" AuntieGM said. I will absolutely take her up on that offer! You can bet a follow up visit to happen - hopefully sooner than later!

We've been going to this restaurant for over 30 years and they have never disappointed us. We fondly remember Harold greeting us way back when and now his son is managing here. Wonderful legacy. The chicken is simply delicious. I usually get the Chita special box which includes legs and thighs, plus many small bites. All is just absolutely tasty! Will be returning with anticipation!

This spot was conveniently located in the downtown district and close to the theatre where we were going . Parking was easy as there is a lot next door.Place is cute inside, however during a busy time, i can see it would be busy because the main room doesn't have a ton of seats - but most ramen places are this way.My husband and I ordered the spicy pork dumplings and the gu (house) ramen with chashu. The spicy pork dumplings were very tasty, not very spicy at all, and came with a nice salad - but was extremely oily. The salad underneath was dripping in oil. Taste was good, but as you are eating, the oil goes all over. Enjoyable, but needs much less oil. So much was leftover that we were able to use it as a condiment down for rhe ramen. The Gu Ramen is their house ramen made with pork broth. Very tasty, the broth is very flavorful, not oily, and very delicious. Portion sizes is good. The thing with this ramen place is that each topping is an add on. So while other ramen places offer a bowl already included with some toppings, you have to pay extra for each thing you want on it, so it gets expensive. They also don't make the traditional ramen egg (marinated). Service was decent and pleasant. Our table was sticky on arrival despite the restaurant wasn't. Skimpy on the napkins, which were needed from the oily salad.Overall, while the ramen broth itself was delicious, there was nothing exemplary that would encourage me to choose this place over another ramen spot.

"One of the best Ramen spots in DTLB! A must try! We came here solely because it was open late, and it has now become a regular for us.First off, their customer service is excellent. It is always pretty quiet, even on a busy night. Secondly, their ramen is absolutely amazing. I always get the lollipop chicken ramen with Udon noddles, and the broth is always on point. Never too salty or greasy. Their prices are also very fair. Two ramen bowls with no additional toppings was less than $30. Parking can be tricky, but there are a couple of parking garages with free 2 hr parking. This place is definitely worth a visit!"
"A long time friend and I had dinner at the sushi bar at Sagami, Irvine, CA last Saturday night and it was just simply amazing food and service in my view.My friend speaks Japanese, eats here regularly, knows the chefs, the menu and exactly the pace to dine at so i was in great hands. Sagami is a small restaurant with a handfull of tables in the dining area and maybe ten seats at the sushi bar and we were never forgotten or overlooked by staff. The waitress and chefs get an A+ from me in all categories. The restaurant appears to be very clean also. We had appetizers of Sunomono (Japanese cucumber salad), shrimp tempura, a squid dish (the name escapes me) and then began eating numerous pieces of sushi. In between sushi we split a steamed salmon. The unagi, ikura, anago, hamachi were my favorites. We finished off with a futo maki handroll and desert. My buddy had green tea ice cream I think and I had the lightest thing they had...flan.This place is top notch in my book."
"I was a bit skeptical walking in since there was only one other family in the restaurant. My mom found this place on yelp and chose it for her bday. NANDO DID NOT DISAPPOINT. This is legit Italian food. There was not a single thing we ordered that made me think 'meh' or 'I've had better'. The one thing that really stood out to me was the generous portions of seafood/lobster in our pastas. The huge chunks of lobster made the prices of the plates worth it. I wish I took pictures because the presentation was wonderful, but I was just too hungry. The food tasted too good to stop and take a picture. Pasta was cooked perfectly and all appetizers were well worth it. As a local, I highly recommend Nando if you're looking to try something new or have friends visiting from out of town! Let's keep this place busy South Bay!!"
"We popped in after a walk on Balboa Island on a Saturday. It wasn't too crowded, we got seated right away. Our server was friendly, service a bit slow but we weren't in a rush and most people are here to relax and have a good time. We got a burger and a pizza, both were yummy! Seems they have a lot of local craft beer options, and cool seating options."
"The taste and atmosphere are wonderful, and I appreciate the staff's kindness. The seafood nurungji soup is rich in flavor, featuring shrimp, flower crab, and mussels. I crave it again today!"
"The food was so amazing! We haven't been here in a while because the quality of the food was not great. They've made some amazing improvements! We went for a brunch and both had the steak and potatoes. The hollandaise sauce was amazing, and it wasn't overwhelming. Next time I'll ask for an additional side of the hollandaise. The potatoes were beautifully seasoned with lots of spices. I cleaned my plate, it was so good!! We'll be coming back more often. Our waiter was so busy but regardless, attentive. Enjoyed that lots of natural light came in from the windows.Again the food was so good! We bought the back a round of beers."
"My girlfriends and I went here to celebrate a birthday. We found this place on Yelp and were so glad we gave it a try. The food was delicious, margarita was good, and service was amazing! Initially we were going to another restaurant and glad we decided to go here because wow best service we've had in a while. Our server was very welcoming and nice, always checked on us. Even other staff that walked by checked in!We went on a Friday night so there was live music. We got the halibut & shrimp ceviche, the sampler empanadas (it came with 3), and the traditional paella. They were all very good! My favorite was their empanadas! All 3 were so flavorful and the outside pastry was buttery and flakey. Delicious! Margaritas were good too!Note that if you don't like loud, maybe sit outside because indoors and in front of the music was pretty loud. I def recommend this place!"
"The rooftop is a great place to hangout and people-watch if you're sitting at the ledge. Service was great, food was tasty and we enjoyed being outside. The noise level wasn't bad. I guess it may have been if we had a larger party, but the hubby and I were huddled close together so it was perfect!"
"Vaca is hands down one of the best spots for Spanish-inspired cuisine in Costa Mesa! The ambiance is stylish yet welcoming, with a great vibe that makes it perfect for a night out. We started with the croquettas de pollo, which were crispy on the outside and packed with flavor on the inside--so good! The bikini sandwich was another highlight--loaded with Jamón Ibérico, Manchego cheese, and a touch of truffle oil. Every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. While the tapas can be on the pricier side, it's totally worth it for the quality of the ingredients and the overall experience. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made great wine recommendations to pair with the meal. If you're in the area, definitely check out Vaca for a memorable dining experience!"
"Boyfriend and I stumbled up on this on our morning walk and so glad we came in. We ordered the veggie omelette and blue corn pancakes. I am now deeply in love with blue corn pancakes. I don't think I can have pancakes any other way. Service was impeccable and the restaurant is gorgeous. It wasn't very crowded which I like. You also have the option to build your own fideo which I will do next time. Look forward to my next visit!"
