Debi R. "We've wanted to stop here for a while, but we never had the time. Don't be like us...find the time! It was mid-afternoon on a weekend and we needed a little pep in our step. Right place at the right time, I guess, because we drove past Knead and had to make a u-turn, but we made it! We walked in and were greeted warmly by the gal behind the counter. We knew we wanted a Vietnamese coffee, but dang! Way to tempt a person with all the beautiful sweet treats! We got our coffee, which was delicious and a welcomed energy boost! But I couldn't leave without sampling some of the goodies! I got the Tiger Tail and hubby got a Blueberry Donut (I think). We are both fans of everything we sampled and will definitely be back!"

There was plenty of parking since it has a parking structure with free parking next to it. The shop is small so if you have a big group, it is better to get your drinks and head outside. It is a little pricey for the boba drinks because of the sizes, but they do have a good variety of different drinks. I got a wintermelon milk tea with their golden honey boba, and it was a tasty basic drink. Service was friendly and very quick in having our orders out since there was a lot of people waiting. The drink I ordered (Orange Grapefruit Yakult) was delicious and refreshing. It was quite sweet, but I think you can adjust the sweetness level. The toppings were limited to only boba, mini boba, and grass jelly (from what I can recall). The place can get pretty crowded throughout the evening. At one point, there was a line out the door even though there were 2 mobile kiosks in addition to the option of ordering at the counter. Boba Bee

Boba Bee

★★★★☆ 4.2 (119) • $$

Derek W. "It was the best of Boba Bees, it was the worst of Boba Bees.I guess it only makes sense to continue with these literature-related intros if my visits to the Long Beach Boba Bee entail shortcomings with discounted drinks.I wanted to give this Boba Bee another try after the debacle that was the Watermelon Lemonade at the conclusion of summer. I've since learned that the same employees work at both the Long Beach and Lakewood locations, so my ratings for the two different locations could have easily flip-flopped in an alternate world. If the same employees work at both locations, you would think that both would have the same ratings. However, after visiting both locations at least twice, I've noticed a statistically significant difference between the two that I'm still bewildered by the stark contrast in my experiences, hence the Charles Dickens intro.Until November 24, you can try their Stinger drink for $1 with any drink purchase. I had just visited nearby Rancho Los Alamitos and wanted to treat myself to a couple of drinks. I wanted one for that day and the other for the next day when I was planning to do laundry. As soon as I came in, a bobarista welcomed me and fielded my questions regarding the Stinger and the Creme Brulee series. She was pleasant and sweet, but needed help from a male co-worker if the Stinger was a caffeinated drink as well as physically ringing up the Stinger for $1 at the register. The wait was 3-4 minutes before my drinks were ready; I sat at a bench by the front door, but the bench was kind of wobbly, just like one of the tables from the Lakewood location. Only difference here is the type of furniture lol. They didn't offer a takeout bag or a drink carrier, so I had to be careful carrying out the drinks, straws, and my receipt. Unfortunately, the Stinger was a literal stinger to my clothes! As I was carrying the Stinger, some of the drink had spilled onto my shirt and jacket! I had thought the Stinger was leaking from the bottom, but turns out it was leaking at the seal! They didn't seal that drink correctly! See the video I posted alongside this review: after tilting the cup, some of the drink spilled out, so I had to be super careful and keep the cup upright while drinking the Stinger. I think that's why that drink was only $1, and good thing this happened *before* I did my laundry lol.The Stinger tasted great though, even when I saved it for the next day. There are plenty of fruit bits and *gasp* another lemon slice^!The Oreo Creme Brulee, on the other hand, had no issues with the seal. I tested this by giving the cup a few shakes after inserting the straw through the seal, and it only leaked through the hole made by the straw. I enjoyed the Oreo Creme Brulee, but not as much as I'd like since the flavor didn't come out as strong. I'd say this drink was quite comparable to the Black Sugar Boba Milk drink I got from Tiger Sugar in Little Tokyo earlier this month, and that one was $1 less. But the boba here was more QQ, though I wouldn't say by that much to compensate for the dollar difference.I neglected to shake the Oreo Creme Brulee until after taking my first sip, but stirring the drink after that didn't seem to have much of an effect. I don't know if shaking beforehand would have made a difference, but considering my mishap with the Stinger just moments ago, I'd only recommend to shake the drinks lightly instead.Case in point, looks can be deceiving. Don't assume the drinks are sealed properly here.I didn't get the bobarista's name on my last visit. The receipt says Morgan, but I know it's not Morgan because I briefly saw Morgan working in the back for a second while trying to decide which other drink to get alongside the Stinger. After my second visit, I think there is enough to give a third star, but honestly, it's going to take *a lot* for me to award a fourth star if I had issues with 2 out of the 3 drinks I've had here so far, and the odd one out didn't leave *that* much of an impression. Even if my third visit was a 5-star visit, a 2, 3, and 5 would only average out to a 3 after rounding.^ I also wanted to use this review update to piggyback off my initial review regarding the supposed fingernails in the Watermelon Lemonade. I was informed that the fingernail-like objects actually came from the hard lemon slices, which I do believe was the case since the two lemon slices in my Watermelon Lemonade were so firm that if I tried to bend either slice, it could easily snap in two. However, it's still a pretty bad mistake in that it would present a choking hazard, and I certainly wouldn't recommend any lemonades for the kiddos since all lemonades have slices of lemon inside. I'm sincerely hoping an implementation of preventative measures have been put in place since my first visit, and I'm also hoping additional corrective action can be taken to fine tune the sealing process on the drinks. I don't want another mess on my clothes and even inside my car!"

Derek W. "I had been to the CaliTea in Cerritos before, but not in Long Beach even though I've known about the Long Beach location since I usually frequent the Robeks next door. On a recent trip to Robeks, I simply got a wellness shot, which I finished in a few sips, and I went next door to CaliTea to treat myself to a hot milk tea.Why a hot milk tea, you ask? Well the night before, I checked my Fivestars account and saw I had a reward for 20% off hot milk teas, and it was set to expire the very next day. I thought getting a drink from both Robeks and CaliTea on the same trip would have been excessive, but this time was an exception!First, I admired the interior of the shop as it felt pretty cozy with a music selection somewhere between relaxing and upbeat. I was immediately greeted as I walked into the shop where only one customer was sitting by the window, probably doing some work. Signicade signs were present to show some Barista Favs as well as a Christmas Menu even though Christmas was over 11 months away. The London Fog caught my eye because I had no inkling as to what it was. After the employee explained it to me, I thought it would have been a great choice considering my head was hurting from doing so much at work that week. I just wanted something that could help me relax and transport me to a happy place for just a brief moment. The London Fog wasn't listed on the menu behind the counter, so I had to ask for the price. It was 60 cents more than a Signature Milk Tea and 80 cents more than a Classic Milk Tea. I was also informed that the London Fog was simply a barista custom-made drink, hence why it wasn't a menu item. I wouldn't know if they offer that drink at the Cerritos location, however.I was also asked if I wanted hot or iced milk tea. Well, my 20% off was only for hot milk teas, so easy choice; I highly doubt it would have worked with an iced milk tea.Lastly, I was asked if I wanted boba in my tea. I've had boba in iced milk tea before, but never a hot milk tea! It took me by surprise to the point where I even had to ask if that was a common thing, to which the employee said it was. At just a half dollar, I was willing to upgrade my drink for the boba. Actually, more like 40 cents since the 20% off applied to the boba as well. The wait wasn't too long. It was about 3 minutes before a barista presented me with my hot cup of tea. She also pointed to a boba straw at the pickup counter as well as a hole in the lid of the cup that would fit such a straw. I had never seen that before either, so that was pretty unique to me.I did enjoy the drink, but the taste wasn't as prominent as I had hoped. I was hoping for something that could help me imagine myself chillaxing with a pina colada at the spherical chair at the far corner of the shop, but this didn't quite do the trick for me. Also, there wasn't a table within arm's reach of that chair, so I had to be careful not to spill anything while I snapped a photo from that chair.Directly across from the pickup counter is bar-style seating facing a wall. I tried sitting on the stool at the far end, but it was wobbly! I then sat at another stool, and that was wobbly too! More customers were coming into the shop, and so I simply decided to walk back to my car with my cup of tea. There are a few board games in the lounge area of the shop that you can play while waiting for or enjoying your drink, but some of the boxes were in pretty bad condition. I can definitely appreciate the addition of Jenga, Connect 4, and even Mancala, but on the other hand, who knows how many people have touched them?!Service from the girls behind the counter was pretty good. They were welcoming and gave out good vibes during my short stay there.I also noticed a $5 Thirsty Thursday offer, both on the Fivestars app and on a sign at the near corner of the shop. I forgot to ask about this, and I'm not sure if that would have even worked in conjunction with my 20% off reward.Overall, it was a good solid visit to this CaliTea, and I can see myself coming back next time I'm in the area for a non-Robeks related reason. Hopefully, my next Fivestars reward will be a good one!"
