My mom and I visited on a Sunday afternoon for lunch, mainly to try their weekend special, thaali. They offer three kinds, and we got the Mutton Thaali along with a Chicken 65 biryani, which appeared to be a popular choice based on online reviews. The place was packed, mostly families and there were a few people getting takeouts as well, but the service was on point. They had music playing in the background but quiet enough to carry conversations. The thaali looked impressive at first sight and had plenty of food to share between two people. The sides didn't stand out and the mutton was definitely the star. It was tasty and had a nice kick to it. If you aren't used to spices or spicy food, it might be too hot for you. However, the thaali comes with two types of yogurt dishes and a sweet halwa made of semolina, which helps. You can also order a cool drink or a cold mango lassi to help with the heat or as a sweet treat at the end of the meal. The white rice that came with the thaali was overcooked, but the chapathi was great. I wish it had come with less rice and an additional chapathi instead. Slightly more lemon pickle would've also been welcome. There was a small side of masala-coated rice, which appeared to be the same as the rice from the biriyani. The Chicken 65 itself was delicious, with a nice texture on the outside and tender on the inside. As you'll see in the photo, rather than layers, the rice was topped with chicken and freshly diced onions. It's difficult to tell from the photo, but the portions are huge. There was more rice than chicken, and I wished the ratio was more proportionate. This won't deter me from trying other biryanis from their menu, & getting chicken 65 in the future. My mom also got their mango lassi and liked it. It was pre-made and came in a plastic cup, ready for takeout. Overall we had a good experience and will definitely be back for more thaali.

Review is for takeout only. The mixed reviews almost turned us away but my husband decided to take a gamble and we got takeout. To our surprise, this is one of the best South Indian food we've had in SoCal!First off, they have kottu paratha which is incredible! First restaurant here in SoCal that had that dish. The fish fry, mutton and paratha are all very good. From reading the reviews it seems like people like the food but the service is terrible so we're ok just ordering takeout for the foreseeable future.

The food here is amazing! Everything was super flavorful and authentic! I came here with my friends and there was luckily no wait on a Friday night for dinner. The man who took our orders was super friendly and gave us many recommendations for the food. The food had large portion sizes and came out in a timely manner. The restaurant is very large and was clean. The only downside was that the service after getting our food was not great. My friend had to ask for hot water 4 times before they gave him water and we asked several times for extra napkins and never received them. We also had to flag them down several times for the check. The server left with my card for a long tjme before returning and saying they don't accept discover which was quite odd. Overall I would definitely return again for this amazing authentic Indian food!

Authentic South Indian cuisine and a favorite place to dine, according to my friends. Seeing their happy faces when they looked at the menu and reminisced about home and food memories made me excited for the food itself! The food was truly delicious. We had spicy garlic naan (4/5), mushroom byriyani (3/5), mutton pepper fry (5/5), and cauliflower Manchurian (dry) (5/5). The flavors were complex and just delicious. We did not adjust for spice so certain dishes came out very spicy but in a good way. Washing the spice down with lime soda sweet helped. Portions are ample and great for sharing. Service was friendly but disorganized. They forgot parts of the order and were so slow. Food came out in waves and we had to flag down the waitstaff a few times. The restaurant is very busy and popular. Parking can be tough as the stalls are narrow and big cars often take 2 stalls. I'd probably return for a to-go order of the mutton pepper fry and the cauliflower Manchurian. Anjappar in Little India has very tasty food. As a South Indian, I think the flavors used in their food were near perfect. The Chicken 65 was crispy and well flavored. Our saucy curry dishes were delicious. For example, the goat curry was cooked very well and came right off the bone. The paratha was very crispy and flaky-- probably one of the best I've had in a while. They also offer varying levels of spiciness from mild to very spicy. One critique regarding the food was that the Biriyani had mostly rice and very little meat. The service and ambience were mediocre. However, our appetizers, main courses, and desserts came out quickly. This is a good place to eat if you enjoy flavorful Indian food and more specifically South Indian food-- especially if you dont mind the ambience or service. Otherwise takeout is also a great option here.

We wanted the South Indian Thali meals but they were not available. They stopped serving the Thali meals to our disappointment. So we had to order Ala Carte. We ordered all our dishes as mildly spicy but phew, the food was way too spicy for me to handle. I can't imagine their higher levels of spiciness, lol. Their dessert Rava Kesari didn't meet my expectations, the Malabar parottas were very greasy. Wouldn't recommend the vegetarian biriyani at all.The service was fast. Very friendly staff.Ambiance was good. The washrooms didn't have paper napkins. They had dryers only. I didn't like to be touching the door handles after washing my hands. Their dishes were pricey, got a big bill compared to other places. Overall experience was just okay.

I always drive past Anjappar Chettinad and see the crowds but this is the first time I've had a chance to try it. The food was actually pretty good. Since they're known for their South Indian food I was expecting their dosa to be the best part of my meal. I was not disappointed. Their dosas are crispy, fresh, and full of flavor. I got the paneer stuffed dosa and they were generous with the paneer. We also got the chicken 65 biryani. It was so yummy! The biryani was very flavorful and spicy. I always struggle ordering biriyani because many restaurants tone down the spice. Anjappar Chettinad doesn't do that. We also got mango lassi and fresh lime soda which went perfect with our meals. Service wasn't the best here. Despite there being more than enough open tables there was a huge line outside. I don't think they're adequately staffed at the moment which is resulting in longer wait times. Our waiters weren't very attentive and seemed bothered whenever we asked them for help. The food also took quite a while to come out.The inside of the restaurant is huge and fairly clean. They share a parking lot with several other businesses so finding parking can be tricky. While the food is great, I'm not sure if I'll be back.

Food is bad. Tandoori chicken was too spicy (for me at least) and needed more salt. Service was inattentive and borderline bad. They got our order wrong. Wanted boneless chicken biryani but instead received a biryani order with chicken legs. Also, no tamarind sauce. I don't think I've ever eaten in an Indian restaurant that didn't offer tamarind sauce. We ordered tandoori chicken, boneless chicken biryani and paneer Dosa. All were spicy but no flavor. Just a lot of heat for no real reason other than to punish people like me who have low tolerance for anything spicy lol. I think I would appreciate it more if the service was actually good and the food flavorful. I've never not liked Indian food before and I didn't like this place at all. Highly disappointed. I won't be coming back again.

My friends and I were starving after a full day of snowboarding and food at this place was the best way to end our day. We ordered chicken 65 Biriyani, idiyappam and mutton curry combo, chickoo milkshake and mango milkshake. Everything was delicious and had good portion size. Service was excellent too. I would definitely visit this place again.
