Food was okay. Nothing special nothing disgusting. I had a phone order but somewhere in between my order was wrong when I got there. Should have asked to repeat the order on the phone. I thought it was the same pace as the one in Orange but not the case! Anywho, rice was cooked perfectly, veggies were raw spinach with a sauce. My kalbi was a little dry and burnt.

Really small fast food restaurant, specializing in Hawaiian inspired food, specifically mixed plates. Their beef ribs was really good. This location in Carson (1 of 3 808 locations in LA Area; the other ones being in Cerritos and Orange) is located in a building that it shares with maybe 4 other businesses). There is one layer of angled parking in front (maybe 9 spots) and a small parking lot in the back (another 30 or so). It is named for the area code for the state of Hawaii.808 is open for lunch and early dinner (closing at 7 pm). We came around 4 pm, planning to get carry-out. Most Hawaiian bbq places serve beef ribs, but korean kalbi style (LA style), and I've never been too impressed with any of them...cheap grade of meat, overcooked, very fatty. However, I did read that 808 serves whole beef ribs so figured we should try that since in the area. You place and pay for your order (one order of Island beef ribs for $14.25), and as mentioned by others, they accept credit card (with additional fee) or cash (but they don't give change)...so credit card was the way to go. I was expecting a bit of a wait, but the food came quickly (under 10 minutes). They do have a few tables for dine-in (couple inside, and 3 outside). Drinks are all available individually (mostly cans), with the refrig behind the counter (so you have to be handed it). And there is a refrigerated case where some really sad looking poke sat.As we drove home, the smell of the ribs wafted throughout the car, making us even more hungry. And it didn't disappoint...there were 3 slabs of beef ribs, along with one scoop of white rice, some macaroni salad (decent), and greens (fresh spinach with some oily dressing. I really liked the marinade of the ribs (they even provide a little carafe of the same runny teriyaki sauce)...it works really well here...most of the ribs was well done, with the sugar in the marinade basically burning, but not providing much bitterness or a burnt taste. Instead, the smokiness of the cooking came out (though pretty sure a smoker was not used). And there was enough meat on the ribs for us to share one plate (we provided more rice and sides when we got home). It's worth coming here for the beef ribs (with maybe some extra rice if eating in).

I wish a took a picture cause my plate was STACKED with meat lol! I was thinking it was a little pricey at first, but when I got my plate and saw how much food there was that thought completely left my mind! I believe I got "The Momona" combo plate, it had Hawaiian bbq chicken, short ribs and beef rib. Those beef ribs were humongous and had so much meat on the bones, nice and tender and flavorful as well. Only tiny critique that I have is that the Mac salad could use a tiny bit more salt and flavor, but overall I was VERY impressed! Goodbye ono Hawaiian bbq, hello 808 local Hawaiian grill! You've gained a new customer that will return soon!

I can't even remember how I found this place, but when I did, I bookmarked it immediately, thinking I'm making a stop next time I'm around the area. And then forgot about it. And then! I had to run a few errands in this area, so I thought about trying a new place. When I saw pictures of the beef ribs, I stopped looking. It's a no frills place. There's a couple of tables for two inside and another set outside. Most people go here for takeout. THE MOMONA: My order. Those ribs were exactly how I hoped they'd be: flavor was on point and the meat was off the bone delicious! The teriyaki chicken was tender and frilled and seasoned well. The mac salad not only was delicious, it also served as a palate cleanser. THE KA MOA: Hubbers' choice. I didn't get to try any of it but he enjoyed his plate very much! SPAM MUSUBI: I had this as a snack way after I had my meal. They make it with less rice which I much prefer, so it was commensurate with the spam. They were tasty. SPICY MUSUBI: Hubbers' choice also. He said the spice level might be too high for me so I didn't bother having it. He liked this as well! FOOD: 5. We liked everything! SERVICE: 5. There was a HUGE snag here, but there was also immediate redemption. With my order, I also got a shrimp tempura musubi and a side of crab - both were missing when I got home. I called and was told they'll make it up and to come back through anytime. And what a coincidence, I had to go back around the area later that day anyway AND Hubbers and I loved the beef ribs so much, we wanted to get more. So upon my return, I put in an order of the Pipi (so I can try the short ribs) and they gave me my missing orders of shrimp tempura musubi and side order of crab. In addition to their apology, they gave me a couple of extra small pieces or ribs. SAHWEET! VALUE: 5. You get tons of food! PARKING: Private lot but gets full quickly. Street also available but limited. OVERALL: 5.I think I may have found my new favorite Hawaiian spot! There will be very many future visits!

Was in the area visiting family and decided to get a quick lunch at 808 Hawaiian Grill. I was starving and knew Hawaiian food would hit the spot.808 is on a small corner in Carson. Parking is limited and so is seating. We decided to go with some combo plates and see what was good. Food took about 20 minutes but was well worth it!We got the Kahlua Pig Plate and the Momona Combo Plate. The beef ribs were the star--I would go back just for that! Meat was so tender and they were HUGE. The mac salad is also super sweet and unique. Wasn't too impressed with the kahlua pig or Hawaiian bbq chicken. Overall if you're looking for a massive meal that will satisfy your Hawaiian craving, this is the spot! I would call in or get to-go however

Food was good! Service a bit slow. We ordered ahead but still had to wait a while after we arrived to pick up our order.

Since being born and raised in Hawaii I love me some delicious local Hawaiian food. Found this spot on Yelp so had to give it a try to see how it compares to local food back home. My husband and I tried the Momona combo and loco moco. The loco moco consisted of 2 small hamburger patties topped with salty gravy. The patties were tough and personally I like my loco moco with one decent sized patty. The momona plate definitely made up for the disappointment in the loco moco. The ribs and kalbi were well marinated and tender. Even the chicken was really good for simple bbq chicken.

Located off Carson St in Carson. Small parking shared with the other businesses. One way in and out or you can be a rebel and try to go out the way you came in it's very tight. The place is small a couple of two seat tables so not really a place to dine in especially if it's 3 or more people. The staff was nice. I got the Joe Shack Special which was chicken, beef steak rice and Mac salad all was very good and tasty the steak was a bit rough but manageable. No cash here unless it is a tip. This place gives that mom and pop atmosphere one that you would find in Hawaii. Overall a good experience and yummy ono food. I'll be back again.

I love 808 Hawaiian. The service is really friendly and fast. Inside the restaurant was small but comfortable. I fell in love with the other Yelpers' pictures of the ribs and had to give it a shot! So I ordered the Momona combo plate that comes with 2 sizable delicious beef ribs, some pieces of kalbi ribs, bbq chicken, rice and macaroni salad. I loved everything! The tender juicy beef ribs would just melt in your mouth and their bbq chicken was oh so amazing. There was something special about how they prepared the rice that makes it stands out from other Hawaiian food joints. The macaroni salad was delicious. The portions are generous and allowed me to save some for dinner.I'm looking forward to returning here again and again. I recommend you give it go, you will definitely love it!
