Lonesome Rose was more than suitable for a lunch with my father. I was quite happy to see that there were multiple vegan options! My father had the Crunchy Beefy Quesorito which he greatly enjoyed. I had the Vegan Truck Stop Nachos; delicious! I am quite impressed with the vegan queso/cheese sauce, as it can be difficult to find a good one. I ordered a queso to go! (^_^)Honorable mention; it was a delight to have Diego as our server during our visit!

My first experience with lonesome rose was delivery through doordash. I ordered their quesarito and their chips and queso. Both were absolutely delicious. The queso really stood out to me. I'm a big queso fan and this queso was definitely delicious. The burrito reminded me of Taco Bell, but better. I do love Taco Bell, so this was a good thing for me. My second time, I went to dine-in with a few friends. We were seated on the rooftop which was really nice. It was happy hour, so we ordered the frozen margaritas and the chips and various dips. We got a good amount of chips with queso, two different kinds of salsa, and elote. I was extremely impressed by their salsas. I really enjoyed them. For my main food, I got the el dorado supreme taco. THIS WAS DELICIOUS! Two of my other friends got it as well as agreed. Once again, very reminiscent to Taco Bell, but a more elevated flavor. I thought it was super super good. I only had two frozen margaritas, and I think they were super strong. This is a good thing for me. No complaints at all. The only negative thing I have to say is that the service was a little...weird??? maybe?? Our server was extremely quiet and we could hardly hear them when they were talking. They didn't seem very knowledgeable, almost like they could've been new?? They were extremely hard to flag down. Like there was a point where they came to give us some more water, and my friend spoke up to ask if we could place our food order (it had been quite some time and we were really hungry for more than just chips and salsas and stuff) our server literally turned away so quickly and walked off like it was kind of comical. We also came an hour before happy hour was over and wanted to get another round before the clock struck twelve, and we were just praying that our server would come check on us before it was over Service was slightly below average, but everything has been absolutely great!!!

Lowering my review after the pretty nasty attitude I got from the hostess last night. She 110% didn't want our business. Honestly shouldn't have even eaten there after the interaction. Her: do you have reservations?Me: hi! No we don't Her: all I'm working with is the bar right now.Me: no problem, we'll grab a drinkHer: *starts to walk away*Me: .....can we also put our name in for a table? Her: it's going to be an hour and 15 minute wait. Me: yeah that's no problem. Her: *sigh* phone number? The table ended up being ready 15 minutes later lol. Someone needs to learn a little customer service.

TL; DR: Decent prices for filling foodThis is a great spot for non authentic Mexican food. The prices are decent and you get a lot of bang for your buck! I liked the burrito with fried chicken and Tatter tots in it. Getting it smothered is also the way to go. The mezcal marg was a great addition, but not something that will blow you away. They have $2 tacos on Tuesday.

Friendly and timely service with a smile. Savory salsas and enjoyed the Baja bowl . I would recommend adding black beans and make it 2 slices of fish vs. 1. Love the plants all around the rooftop patio.

Loved this place! If I could picture the most idealistic (informal) restaurant, this place would be it. My best friend who lives nearby in Chicago suggested we meet here and I'm so glad she did! The service was impeccable. Kathryn was an absolute blast and super attentive, even through the huge influx of a dinner crowd. She served us the most delicious frozen drinks and her recommendations were perfect. I had a wide array of tacos and they were perfect and even my picky teenage daughter really enjoyed the food! They have a new upstairs outdoor seating area that looks amazing and while I didn't get to sit up there this time, I'll definitely come back next time and try to!

On my first night in Chicago, I went to check out Lonesome Rose, a restaurant I'd heard a lot about.Upon walking in, it's so cute and fun vibes only. The staff there were all super courteous and my server Bella was amazing from beginning to end, constantly checking in on me and other tables to see if anything else was needed.Started off with the guava mezcal margarita, which was so good. Not too sweet and gave me a nice little buzz. I wanted tacos so got Sal's carne asada and the fried chicken. I was also given a side of pickled onions which complimented both tacos perfectly. The carne asada had loads of good flavor, meat was nice and tender. The fried chicken had pimento cheese, hot sauce, and pickled jalapenos. A flavor bomb, in a good way! I also ordered the chicken empanadas, which was my favorite out of the 3 dishes. Fried to perfection, lots of ingredients inside from chicken to corn to beans, and the green salsa that accompanied it was the icing on top.For dessert, Bella helped me decide on the horchata soft serve and recommended her addition of crushed peanut butter pretzels. First, the soft serve is a huge portion, I could barely make a dent in it, even though I wanted to eat the whole bowl if I could. I loved the addition of the PB pretzels because I am a sweet and savory kinda gal. I truly wish we had a dessert like this near home because I am craving this now!Highly recommend this restaurant that also has a very cute rooftop dining area, bar with karaoke, and outdoor seating as well. Service was impeccable by Bella and the food and drink prices are super reasonable for the quality you get!

For sure it's not a surprise this isn't authentic. It's a hipster take on Mexican food. Lonesome Rose may not be traditional, but it's certainly good though. Has a lot of interesting options on the menu. The prices can get high on some things, but there's smaller things to eat if looking for cheap stuff. Cool inside as if there was a Tex Mex atmosphere. It has the inside and a patio. There's pretty big cocktail and food menus, and it can take awhile to order. Already I knew the drink was going to be the House Margarita. This is made with Corazon Blanco tequila, agave nectar, and lime juice. As for the food we could not get enough. It's about $12 for a burrito and sides. A choice and the one I got was the Lonesome Vegetarian Burrito. Jam packed. This can be made vegan by removing cheese and crema, and replacing with an avocado sauce. Also there was beans, cabbage, pico, salsa, tater tots, and meat substitute made from garbanzo beans. This burrito is enough for a couple people. Get some Americanized Mexican food as this cool joint. It has a crap ton on the menu. There's also plenty of options for vegans and vegetarians.

This is my new favorite place lol! We came here for restaurant week and we were incredibly impressed with how much food they give you for the Restaurant Week menu. The nachos and the chips were incredibly good but the tacos were the star of the show! I tried the carne asada, al pastor, el dorado and fried chicken tacos and my taste buds have never been the same lol I miss those tacos. We had a great time, the ambience was live with a fire playlist and we will definitely be back!
