Locals Espresso

A strong "nope" from me. It's been years since I have purchased a coffee from Locals. During my commuting days I used to stop several times a week so I'm very familiar with the stand and never had a bad experience. Today I was heading toward the freeway and decided to stop for an Almond Latte. The car in front of me had a couple dogs hanging out the window begging for treats. As I waited and watched the dog activity I wondered how that all works with the health department? Dog heads encroaching the outside counter and slobber on the surface???? I still wanted coffee badly enough that I stayed the course and pulled up to place my order. The barista was friendly and I held my tongue about the dogs. She handed me my coffee and said "we are not passing your receipt through the window any longer for you to sign or add a tip..... do you want me to add a tip for you?" I was kind of taken aback at this approach and mentioned it. I didn't feel comfortable giving someone else the leeway to add in their own tip without me actually writing it on the receipt. I asked why the stand was operating this way and the barista said the old way took too long and this way saved time. In my head I'm thinking that this very same employee spent time with the dogs and dog owner... but they don't have time for me to review my receipt so I can add my own tip? I was a bit flustered and told her to add .70 cents to the total (typical for me is .50 - 1.00 for a coffee). She had asked me if I wanted a stamp card and I changed my mind after the interaction. I said I probably wouldn't be back and I had changed my mind about the card. By now her friendly demeanor had left and she was now acting rude and dismissive to me. She handed me my receipt and upon taking a closer look tonight I see she opted to not add the .70 to the total. I know coffee stands are a dime a dozen but this stand always stood out as clean, efficient and staffed with friendly employees. That was not the case today and this is an odd change to the tipping debacle of the past couple years. Nothing like making it even more awkward and weird. As a side note the coffee was luke-warm, there was no froth at all and the slight trace of almond flavor tasted like the sugar free brand.

Love the drinks that come from here. Especially the red bull chargers. Make sure you get a punch card and you can get punches and redeem your free drink at any of the 3 locations. And it's valid for any drink including energy drinks and you can get up to any size 24oz with just stamps and a 32oz if you have 5 32oz stamps on your card. They even have a kids punch card and they're kids drinks are super cheap and just the right size for little kids. And if your lactose intolerant there's multiple options for milk substitutions.

My friend suggested I try this espresso stand, so I thought "why not?". I'm so glad I did! The only downside is they seem to always be busy when I stop by and it can be hard to get to, but if you don't mind waiting it'll be worth it!

Bad coffee, egg sandwich is cold in the middle, and they will cheat you on the bill. Apparently I'm not the only one.

Really disappointed. Locals used to be my all time favorite coffee stand with the best white chocolate mochas around! They used to have the best service with personable ladies who were always friendly. I've been going to locals for over 10 years... I'm sad to say that I wont be going back unless I can catch the morning crew (though that will prove difficult due to my work schedule). The unprofessionalism of the afternoon crew astounds me with the outright rude ignorance like making fun of how they ran the coffee bean hopper dry and giving us (customers) the scraps... Then proceeds to give me burnt tasting coffee... Lovely. These are the same ladies who now will charge you for two drinks instead of the extra charges for extra shots. So be warned if you order a 32oz quad shot extra sweet - (to which I always said I like the same about of scoops of white chocolate as if it were two 24 oz which btw is less than what it would be to be extra sweet - so more scoops if I ask for extra sweet but then its too sweet) they will charge you for TWO 24 OUNCE drinks instead of ONE 32 OUNCE drink. Their explanation is that they were told if I get the same about as two 24 ounce drinks I was to be charged for two drinks and not one. Let me be clear I was not getting 48 ounces of coffee if I was getting a total of 48 ounces then yes I'll pay for what I am getting but I was only getting ONE drink that holds 32 ounces of liquid. Please charge me per your charge board for extra shots not for drinks that I am not ordering and NOT receiving. Such poor business practices.... The morning crew seems to be able to figure out how to always charge me correctly.. This isnt a one off with the afternoon crew either I have tried giving them multiple chances and its consistent bad behavior and shitty coffee. The only decent and outstanding service seems to only come from Liz, Andrea, and Chelsea. Shout out to those three ladies for being decent and providing great service and wonderful coffee!!!

We love Locals! The quality is always excellent and the employees are a joy to visit with! Sometimes the line is long but it's always worth the wait! We have tried many other coffee huts but this one is the best! Thanks Locals!
