This renovated brownstone has the old world feel with many modern touches. New tile with old world decor. We started with the mussels. Not my favorite sauce, but the mussels were clean and delicious. Enjoyed the bread. The smoked blue fish dip was phenomenal. The smoky salt against the jam and then the soft bread as a vessel. Exquisite. The ipswich fried clams were lightly battered. So tasty. The tarter needed a touch more dill. The light sauce and capers brightened up the meaty swordfish. The small potatoes and fennel were a perfect accompaniment. The sparkling lemonade was refreshing. Our server was attentive without hovering. The bathrooms are unisex individual bathrooms, and the one I used was clean.

My friend and I came here for an early dinner, and had made a reservation beforehand. It's right on Newbury Street, but tucked below street level. We were seated right away and our lovely waitress talked us through the menu, and gave suggestions. The ambiance is dimly lit and perfect for a date or a small friend catch up. My friend ordered a glsss of the sav blanc, which she said was really good. We shared the cauliflower, which was delicious and had a wonderful sauce. For entrees, I ordered the lobster roll warm and my friend got the lobster pasta dish, and both were so good. They were both quite filling and while pricey, well worth the price. I would absolutely come here again the next time I'm in Boston.

Stopped by here whilst cruising the newbury street Sunday shutdown. Beautiful day. The spot is pretty pricey as expected being on Newbury.Went downstairs and inside to get seated, it's a seafood joint so it does smell like so from up on the staircase: they had AC on inside and diners enjoying their luncheons. We opted to sit outside and watch the festivities and soak in some sun.Small eats calamari and clam chowder. The calamari was well cooked. Crispy, seasoned and had a nice marinara style dip with chunks of tomatoes. This was RI style so add the jalepenos !The chowder had a good consistency, ample amount of clams it seemed but was a bit on the super bland side for me. Requested salt and pepper and all was good. Our server was nice, waters refilled and food came out timely! Would come back again. We stop in from time to time.

In the overpriced world of eating on Newbury Street, the food at Little Whale is at least pretty uniformly delicious! We found it easy to get a reservation and enjoyed sitting outside on a sunny day recently. For lunch, we shared the clam flatbread (which was delicious with lots of clams, and a great shared dish as an appetizer); my husband got the hot lobster roll which had lots of very well prepared lobster meat in flavorful butter (with perfect crispy thin fries); and I had the tuna tartare, which was super fresh, a good portion and minimally messed with (aka mostly good high quality tuna!). The lobster roll being over $50 was a bit of a shocker, but otherwise really enjoyed our meal and would return.

Had a delicious meal at Little Whale! Great service, very Boston/Newbury street ambiance & absolutely delicious seafood. Would absolutely return / recommend to anyone visiting Boston & looking to try some tasty local seafood!Food - we enjoyed oysters, mussels, crab toast, & a delicious lobster pasta. Everything was SO tasty & so well crafted. Great portion size as well but not too big, allowing us to try many dishes!Service - we sat at the bar & were taken care of by a very friendly bartender with great suggestions. Service was very attentive overall & food came out quickly!Ambiance - Newbury street restaurant located downstairs in one of the brick buildings. Not the biggest restaurant at all, a handful of tables & some bar seating. Can get pretty crowded in there especially when you account for all the winter coats! Great vibes overall.

Stopped by Little Whale for a quick clam chowder & calamari! Service is quick, server was very attentive and friendly. Both dishes were yummy and had solid flavor. The clam chowder did need a bit of salt and pepper, but otherwise , love that the chowder had whole clams in it. I also liked that for the calamari, they gave nice pieces of squid. Their food is on the pricey side, for what you get. The portion sizes are smallish & not really justifiable for the price.

Tucked down on Newbury Street, Little Whale exudes a swanky vibe. It's a great place to pop in for a quick lunch if you're in the area doing some shopping. The salmon crudo is a must-try. This dish deserves an audible "mmm." Fresh, melt-in-your-mouth salmon bathes in a sesame oil dressing, balanced perfectly by salty avocado and refreshing cucumber. It's a symphony of textures and tastes, a true testament to skilled flavor design. The sautéed clams were another hit. The spicy tomato ragu is a vibrant sauce is the real star of the show, even overshadowing the perfectly fine clams themselves. I recommend getting an extra order of sourdough bread to get all the extra sauce. The clam chowder is, unfortunately, a bit bland. While there's plenty of fresh cracked black pepper on top, a more flavorful broth - perhaps with a hint of garlic - would elevate the dish. The 20% gratuity is automatically added, which some might find surprising, but on the upside, there's no sticker shock when the final bill arrives.

I came here celebrate my moms birthday. Her favorite dish to eat is fried whole belly clams and this place delivered on the fried clams. Also, the broccolini and the fish sandwich was very delicious. As good as the fish sandwich was, the fries were cold and wasn't crispy. Then the lobster spaghettini was bland, so was the sautéed clams. There wasn't enough tomato flavor in either of those dishes and it was not flavorful at all. Plus there was a difference in the clams as well because the fried clams tasted way fresher than the sautéed clams did. The sautéed clam dish the clams had no flavor and was chewy. My guess is the way this dish was prepared was, the clams are boiled and sauce was added in. Mom and I were disappointed because it started off so well and then things just went down hill. I would recommend ordering any dish that is fried as it was the best dishes on the menu. Overall, the food experience could have been better. Plus the person who packed my leftovers left a piece of the toothpick in my fish sandwich. I thought it was a bone, that was careless of them.

We wanted a light meal, so we ordered clam chowder, mussels, and broccolini. The clam chowder was the best of the three, but the broccolini was a bit on the salty side. One thing that bothered me was the 3% operations charge, plus an automatic 20% tip added to the bill. I won't be going back there again.
