Little Chef Chinese Take-Out

This place has been in OB forever. That's a great sign since places come and go pretty often. It's is my go-to spot for Chinese-American. I don't come often but whenever I do it hits the spot. Food comes out fairly quickly. It's a no frills counter service spot. My only feedback is that I wish it had some seating. The neighboring joints have limited tables on the street, but technically it's for their customers and not Little Chef. When it's not busy I have sat one of them..... you can always take your food down Newport to the beach or grass if you want to enjoy your food out and not take it home.A friend introduced me to their wonton soup. It's made to order so the veggies are always al dente and the wontons have a thicker skin so they hold up well in the piping hot broth. It's PACKED! I was surprised that it not only has wontons and a variety if veggies, but chicken, shrimp, AND bbq pork! The side of fried wonton strips adds a yummy crunch factor. For the price and portion, you can't beat it. Honestly may be the BEST wonton soup I've had.I've also gotten the orange chicken, sweet and sour chicken, and honey walnut shrimp. All of which have a ton of protein and aren't too greasy like Panda Express or other similar joints can be. Their egg rolls are pretty good, too.

This is American Chinese food. This isn't actual Chinese food. I knew that but my husband wanted to try it. For people that eat "Chinese food" like this, with a menu like this. They'll like it. But I personally would not get food from here again.

Ordered takeout via UberEats and was extremely disappointed. This was probably the worst Chinese food I ever had. While the food was delivered quickly, it was completely flavorless...and I ordered simple items: special fried rice and won ton soup. Both were not appetizing. The meat in the rice actually seemed undercooked. Unfortunately, I threw most of the food away - such a waste of money. I think the high rating on UberEats is totally misleading. One positive: the fortune cookies were good!

OB fair today, little chef service was fast and friendly cashier. Walnut shrimp has the biggest shrimp I have ever seen and it taste fresh and delicious. Lemon Chicken is a must try as well. The sweet sauce with tanginess of the lemon is amazing and refreshing in the hot weather.

Little chef Chinese takeout is located in Newport avenue in ocean beach. It's a tiny little takeout place for Chinese food that seems to have a lot of customers throughout the night.I stopped in tonight for dinner food as I wasn't really in the mood for a sit down meal anywhere.I ordered the beef and broccoli with white rice and an orange chicken with fried rice and some crab Rangoon.The beef and broccoli was hot, the broccoli was crunchy and fresh and the beef was flavorful. The rice was a little crunchy however.The orange chicken was delicious with big chunks of chicken and it had a lot of flavor as well and the rice was soft and tender. The crab Rangoon was gooey and crisp and tasted quite delicious.If you're looking for a friendly staff and delicious takeout Chinese food, this is the place for you. You won't be disappointed in the food.

I've been looking for a good Chinese food place for carry out that was close by. I was very pleased with the quality and flavor of our Lemon Chicken, Beef with Brocolli, Wonton Soup and fried wontons. We definitely plan on ordering from Little Chef the next time we want Chinese food.

Fast service, and very high quality food. This made a great quick meal option when we were struggling to make dinner plans. I liked that the orange chicken and sesame chicken were large pieces of meat and well cooked. Definitely be sure to check for specials they are currently offering either in store or online. We got free orange chicken with a $25 order. Really great deal.

Ordered on UberEats the Orange Shrimp & 2 Orange Chickens with a pint of fried rice. Food arrived still hot! Chicken and shrimp were crispy, although wished the sauce had more flavour (which could've been my fault for not increasing my spice preference). Fried rice was pretty bland to be honest.

Ordered this through door dash, so keep that in mind when reading this review. I ordered the house fried rice which includes shrimp, chicken and beef. The chicken tasted bland and had a strange texture as if it were coated in baking soda. Same with the beef. The shrimp had no flavor, so I'm assuming each meat was cooked separately with no spice and then added to the rice separately. I also ordered Egg Foo Young which also had little flavor and horrible texture . I tried the Cream Cheese wontons which were actually decent. Would not recommend, I'm not exaggerating this is the worst Chinese food I've ever eaten

We placed an online order of chicken fried rice, chicken with broccoli and snow peas (added zucchini), and cream cheese wontons. Everything was ready on time for pick up, definitely super hot. The veggies were very fresh, my only sorta negative feeling was about the chicken. Nice large chunks, but it tasted like it was just boiled, not my favorite texture and not a lot of flavor. Same with the wontons, cooked well but not very flavorful.I will say the portions were big and the dishes piping hot, overall average tasting Chinese take-out.
