The Thoroughbred Club is a private club located right next to Keeneland and I just love going there as my BIL's guest. The food choice is limited but what they do have is quality. My favorite is the Shrimp Cocktail. They are huge. very sweet, and I could drink the cocktail sauce it's so good. The fried chicken breast is very juicy and yet crunchy. Mashed potatoes are delicious! Even the crackers and pretzels they serve with beer cheese pre-meal are out of this world! The tables aren't on top of each other. The service is very good. Staff are all very pleasant and accommodating. It's a spacious andcozy comfy feel. You are never rushed!

If there's one thing I learned during my inaugural trip to Kentucky, it's that this state takes seriously its horses and its bourbon. So what better way to immerse yourself in the culture than go eat at the Thoroughbred Club of America? This members-only restaurant gives you panoramic views of the perfectly manicured grounds while you eat. The interior walls are lined with photographs and paintings of famous jockeys and champion horses. For lunch, I ordered the open-faced sandwich... which turned out just to be a hefty cut of steak perched on top of a piece of bread! But I am NOT complaining, the steak was perfectly seasoned, grilled to a juicy medium rare, and surprisingly reasonably priced! This place is definitely worth checking out if you have the opportunity!

This is a private club -- members only -- so unless you are an invited guest, you cannot enter the hallowed halls of the Thoroughbred Club. It is a beautiful venue on the Keeneland campus. Numerous rooms with grand windows. A nook with large screen TVs showing the daily national races where you can sit with your racing program. Some quiet spots to sip a bourbon or your favorite brew. I had the hot brown for lunch today which was just okay. (The original at the Brown Hotel in Louisville is still the best.) My friend had the catfish, a large filet with fries and slaw, which looked far more appetizing than my choice. The martinis were good. Service was excellent. Atmosphere -- everything.
