The Thoroughbred Center is owned by Keeneland. Behind the main building are stables and a training track. There are tours of the backside which can be arranged at the office. The event room at the front side by the main entrance is very nice A lovely fireplace is the centerpiece of the room, adorned with equine accoutrements, as well as a huge chandelier. Also, there is a bar. The larger room to the back has a more utilitarian appearance. A small auditorium with a stage is behind this room. A decent location for events.

I can't comment on the tours and that side of the center. I have been to several events here, all throughout the facility. One was a party day party that hosted about 100 people, there was a dance floor area and a DJ, the host hired the DJ, but you get the point.Another event that I've attend here was in the auditorium like area that I think at one time was where horse sales were. It reminded me of a big movie theatre. The seats were like from the 60s but weren't used often, so they weren't as it may sound. Another time, was when I attended a wedding reception. It was held in the back part. The floors were concrete and it was freezing. Between the outdated decor and the lack of heat, I'd still say if you're looking for a place to host a party, check this place out.

What a fascinating tour! I was a little hesitant at first to pay for the tour, just wasn't sure it was worth the money. But after taking the tour, I was so glad that I did. We had a great tour guide that shared with us the many interesting facts about horse racing, training, breeding and history of Kentucky. Would recommend this to anyone.

We had our wedding there. I was not impressed by the staff throughout the whole process of planning the event as well as after. We were supposed to have our ceremony outside and our reception inside. Because of bad weather, we were unable to have the ceremony outside. We did not get the money back ($1,000) for the cost of the outdoor ceremony even though the staff said we would. We were also supposed to get our damaged deposit ($250) refunded the week after the wedding. Two weeks later....still waiting on that check. Yes they offer an affordable price for a wedding venue, but you get what you pay for. The staff were not very helpful when decorating and getting the venue ready for the ceremony. I had to get my groomsmen to help kid in a big arch from outside because they said there was nobody there to move it. Some of the lights fell down inside the venue and I had to get on a ladder and fix them myself. For what we paid, they should have had someone there to help. Look somewhere else if you're looking for a wedding venue.

This was a nice place and it was awesome to see the young racehorses training on the track. The rest of the tour was good, but the lady that gave us the tour was uneducated with horses. She was sweet but didn't know much about horses.

Reasonably priced tour that provided a lot of information on training young horses and the racing industry in general. You need to ask questions of the guide as there didn't seem to be a canned speech. It was fun to watch the morning workouts, see the stables, and watch the interaction between the jockeys and horses. Everyone was friendly. Definitely worth the time and money.

Pros: Watch morning workouts at a busy training facility. Cons: Tours are over-priced for the limited knowledge obtained. Tour guides are ill prepared, but the exercise boys/girls are friendly and trainers knowledgeable.

The Thoroughbred Center also provides installation of horse fence, and were one of three contractors I contacted for a bid. They were the only one to bid the job without visiting my jobsite. After a couple of weeks of back and forth on the phone, they provided a quote. I accepted their quote because it was the lowest price. I exchanged personal information about myself and jobsite and the salesperson confirmed that I was on their schedule for September. Within a week, I received a new quote and story of a schedule delay to October. No problem...I was not thrilled about that, but they were still the lowest bid and I assumed all is well. Two more weeks pass and I'm contacted by the General Manager, Jim P. He informs me that the salesman is no longer working there, apologizes for the delays, tells me they'll make sure I'm satisfied. He also informs me that the salesperson actually didn't have me on their schedule. They're now booked out to November...but assures me that he's happy to put me on their schedule. OK...schedule is blown again, price quoted seems up in the air... but at least now the GM is paying attention to my job. A week later, the GM visits my jobsite, and seems concerned about 4 trees near the proposed fence line. He tells me a few of the posts will have to be auger drilled instead of set with their post-driver, and it will add to the cost. I told him that I understood (although the other two contractors who bid the job didn't express any heartburn about it). It's only 580 feet of fence, and they've known this from the start...but I start to sense that this GM thinks the job is too small. He finished the site visit and told me that I was probably looking at November on their schedule. Fine. Just please lock it in. Two days later, I receive a call from Jim P., GM, and he tells me they don't want the job. "It's too complex" he says. 580 feet of fence is too complex??...I was worried it was too small!! While trying to understand this, he tells me that he thought they could squeeze my job in in one day, and he now thinks it would take 4. Further, he tells me he's busy with an all-winter job. What?!? What happened to the confirmation that I was on the schedule? I'm six weeks now from when I got the 3 bids. I've been engaged and "on the schedule" with The Thoroughbred Center for more than 3 weeks. I've informed the other two fence contractors that I had selected someone else. Now I'm back to square one!!Buyer beware of this company. They don't know how to run a business, keep a commitment, or talk straight to a customer. Jim P. the GM believes the right way to clean up the mess of his former salesperson is to make big promises first, then disregard them all, as if he had no concern whatsoever in the interests of someone trying to be a customer. After listening to me express my concerns with the entire engagement, he showed how much he DID NOT CARE by saying "Yeah, sorry for the confusion". Confusion? I'm only confused about how they have any customers at all.
