What a perfect location for our home on wheels as we head back to Central Ohio for the month of October!
Large, open sites.
Large playground in our loop.
Site 3. Large & open, woods in back.
The horse sites... RVs to the left and the horses to be stationed to the right
Turtle near the campsite.
The ramp at the tail waters. Great for paddlers.

We absolutely loved our brief stay in this campground and the small towns around us. We were only here as a stopover as we head east and then north to Central Ohio for a few weeks. The sites are huge offering a fair amount of privacy when enjoying your space and mostly level. Trails are fabulous but marked less than we are used to and with obvious horse traffic (we didn't see any) we aren't accustomed to but still a beautiful view around every turn. Our T-Mobile hotspot worked great giving the added boost we needed to do any work or surfing. We will be sure to stay here again as an option for visiting distilleries on the Bourbon trail!

Right at an hour away from Lexington, I think I've found my favorite nearby campground. My favorite thing about it is the spacious sites. I will mention that on the booking map it seemed like the campground was near the water, but we didn't see the water. Maybe in the fall, after the foliage falls, then you might be able to see it. When you turn into the State Park, you don't check-in at the first place, I think that's just a State Park office. Once you turn into the campground, that's where you check-in. Just like every other Kentucky State Park, you book online at Reserve America. You have to book at least 24 hours in advance though. We checked in on Friday and didn't have any plans. You can rent boats at the marina, which is about 15 minutes away. They didn't have any available the Saturday that we were there...so, do be sure to plan ahead. There is a boat ramp just past the campground entrance, just a couple of minutes away. The RV sites are graveled and each includes a firepit and picnic table. I did see a few sites with sewer hookups, but just like several other state parks, those sites are very scarce. There is a section for primitive camping and those sites were nice, wooded and secluded. There is a section for horse camp. Those RV sites are pull through. They weren't many people or horses in that section.Although the sites in our section were full to capacity, I never heard our neighbors from inside. There also wasn't very many kids or golf carts. The hiking trails are accessible from the campground, which was an added perk. Even though the summer temperature is at seasonal highs, the trails are wooded and shaded and the temperature and climate were tolerable enough for us to go on an evening hike.

Taylorsville Lake is a real nice place to go. 30 minutes from Jefferson town Kentucky. If you can go through the week it would be less crowded.

If you're looking for a quick and convenient place to go camping and you live near Spencer County, then Taylorsville Lake State Park campground is the place. I live approximately 25 minutes west of the campground and it is very economic for me to load up the camper and take the weekend off. Don't get too excited on the last-minute trip though. They do require a reservation and are usually booked up pretty far in advance so I would go ahead and check the days you want now. The sites fit perfect for what we need. Some friends and I needed a guys weekend away and between the beer and grilling out it was perfect. The bath houses are kept clean and stocked. The park ranger take his authority a little bit too far and is overzealous with small problems. FYI don't park in the grass!lol The walking trails are well-maintained and you are very close to the boat dock. At night time this is the perfect place for a fire and to make some s'mores! They have everything from full water and electric hook ups to primitive camping. Whatever you're into they can accommodate.

First and last time. The bathrooms and showers are not only outdated, but poorly maintained and dirty. The drains are covered with hair, mold along the ceramic tile, floors filthy. One of the showers in men's bath only dribbled water. Tried to do laundry and only one of two tiny machines was operating. We stayed years ago at General Butler State Park and very similar situations there. We don't know if it is a Kentucky finance issue or what but compared to state parks in Virginia, Florida, Colorado and other states this will be our last time at a Kentucky State Park.
