Starving Artist Cafe & Deli

I absolutely love The Starving Artist! The food is always fantastic, and the menu offers so many great options. My personal favorites are the Van Gogh, Monet, and Beethoven--each one is delicious in its own way!One of the best things about this place is the daily specials and fresh homemade soups, which aren't on the regular menu. It's always a treat to see what's new! The homemade desserts are also amazing--you can try to save room, but you'll probably be too full, so just get one to go!A heads-up: it's cash only, so come prepared. Whether you dine in or take your meal to-go, the experience is always great, and the prices are super reasonable.Highly recommend checking it out!

First of all, I'd really rate this a 3.5 if I could. The sandwiches themselves are pretty good. I feel like these are sandwiches I'd make at home, and I consider myself a pretty good cook. I'm knocking a half a star off because of the stringy shredded lettuce. A lot of people love it for some reason, but to me it's messy and doesn't add much other than irritation. I'd prefer a nice piece or two of crispy green leaf or romaine. The soups are a mixed bag. So far, the bean soup is my favorite by a long shot. The chili, however, was honestly not my jam. The ground beef was mealy and not browned at all. The beans just tasted dumped out of a can. The tomatoes tasted straight up like stewed tomatoes. The seasoning was mostly just an excess of chili powder and not much else. It didn't taste like any of the flavors melded at all. Do not recommend.I've had the fries, and they were freshly fried crispy to order. Nice. What's also nice are the prices. Bring cash.

Dare I say this is the best sandwich stop in Louisville? I ordered the hot sandwich Michael Jackson and subbed honey mustard for ranch. It was without flaw. I am already wanting to plan the next time I can go back! - cash only- regulars every day of the week- intimate + compassionate service- meals came out quick & hot This place has stayed in buisness for good reason. Please do yourself a favor and go!

I've been hearing hype for a long time. Cash only and hours make it difficult to go. We finally made it!We got tuna salad and chicken salad and we're very happy with the sandwiches. Really a no frills deli. Enjoyed the service. Enjoyed the food.Very small parking lot. Very small dining space. Next time, will call in and take to go.Highly recommend if you have cash and need a quick lunch in the area. Will be back.

Cash only but well worth the trip to the ATM!!I got the DaVinci (a sandwich) with a side of chili. The sandwich was beyond delicious, I made the mistake of trying a bite in my car and managed to devour half of it before making it to my destination! The bread is crisp and it was a perfect balance of meat/veggies/sauce.The chili wasn't bad but wasn't my fav, it has large chunks of tomatoes which isn't my preference. The flavor/taste was good so someone who likes chili that way would enjoy it.I stopped in around 2 and it was empty but the cashier was kind and quick.Excited to come back & bring my husband as I know he'll love their sandwiches!

The best sandwich shop in Louisville! Only negative thing is they only take cash, but it's so worth it!!!!

It's small but mighty! Be prepared with cash. The Janis Joplin is one of the best vegetarian sandwiches in the city. I tend to stick with chips but coworkers love their other sides.

This is no joke my new favorite sandwich shop in Louisville. The vibe, the quality of food & the prices!! I'm not sure if this has been a hidden gem forever but it needs more attention! The food makes it & the staff, decor & space brings it all around together. 10/10 recommend. Do yourself a favor & get here. Thanks so much for the awesome service. I'll be back again & again

Soups and Sandwiches are amazing.Small place,but nice atmosphere.They have different soups everyday,and we had sausage and potatoe soup which was great.Worth trip to test the sandwichs and soup
