This is truly heaven on earth. Just came back from my 3rd visit in 12years. I cry every time I have to leave. The peacefulhollow, the great food, the hospitality makes this such a special place. The Cozy Cabin is great for a girl's trip. We went out back and looked at the beautiful sky so full of stars after a dinner of Artisan Pizza, salad. Kentuscan Bean Soup snd Chocolate Tart! Heaven! Barbara is the best story teller and Innkeeper and her staff are so good at anticipating your every want and need. Can't get enough of the Hollow.

The most beautiful, restful spot! I stayed four nights and longed to stay more! The food was delicious, the accommodations first rate! And everyone was kind and helpful. Looking forward to my next visit!

One of the most beautiful places. If you are in Kentucky, this is a must stay. Every inch is exquisitely decorated. Hours fly by sitting and watching nature. Porch swings, rocking chairs, and daybeds invite you to put your feet up and enjoy a slower pace of life. The food is fantastic, and Barbara and all the staff were fantastic and attentive. We will be back and cannot say enough good things! Pictures do not do this place justice.

Barbara has created a magical experience in her beautiful hollow in SE Kentucky. Each cabin is well appointed, with everything you need (walking sticks, bird books, puzzles, bug spray and peace and quiet). The cabins are sustainably built but we never noticed that, but were glad that they were. Retreats are personal things and the haven she has created allows each person to tailor their time at Snug Hollow as they wish., with one exception--breakfast in the hills served with a generous hand! The food is outstanding and we really liked that it was vegetarian. We will definitely go back again!

Usually Snug Hollow is booked solid, but we were only needing one night, and there was an opening for the Cozy Cabin Sunday evening. We were warmly welcomed by Margaret who got us settled into a lovely little cabin. So we'll appointed and homey. Juice, and cold water available in the fridge. We settled in and sat out on the porch with a beautiful idyllic view of the hills, meadow, and herb garden before dinner. Dinner was brought to our cabin, as was breakfast...both scrumptious! I am not a bread eater, but the rosemary braided bread was to die for! Everyone was so gracious, and welcoming, Snug Hollow is a must do if you long for true peace and quiet!

I think they should change the name to Shangri-la -- visitors are certain to find their bliss here, whether taking in the quiet of a cool morning, sharing a delicious meal with delightful company, or escaping the constraints of left-brained living. I enjoyed a girlfriend getaway here in the Cozy Cabin, a comfortably rustic dwelling just a stone's throw from the main house. Book shelves were stocked with dozens of interesting books about Kentucky and homesteading/sustainable living and travel. Rocking chairs beckoned from a secluded back porch. Be sure to ask Barbara to tell you the history of Cozy Cabin. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast which included some of the best biscuits and gravy I have ever had -- and, yes, it is possible to have tasty gravy even without meat drippings! Dinner included a surprisingly yummy eggplant parmigiana -- surprising, because I always thought I disliked eggplant. It just took Barbara's special touch. In addition, I have had many lunches at Snug Hollow and enjoyed every bite of every one. They grow and use many of their own ingredients. And I would be remiss if I didn't mention the warm, engaging personalities of everyone connected with Snug Hollow. Barbara Napier, the owner, is a storyteller extraordinaire and can play a mean game of Speed Scrabble. Over the years I have met several of her "helpers," and each one was a delight. I think there's just something that emanates from the hollow that makes people relaxed and pleasant to be around -- and that in itself is reason enough to go there. Do.

This won't be a "review" as much as it will be a love letter to Snug Hollow Farm. My husband and I spent one of the nicest weekends we have ever had together at this gem of a bed and breakfast, and my only regret about doing everything I can to get the word out about this place is that I won't be able to get in the next time I want to visit. There are t-shirts in the Snug Hollow gift shop printed with the words "3-miles back on a 1-mile road" and that isn't far from the truth. Once you turn on to that 1-mile road, it stays asphalt for a few yards, then turns to gravel, then it rises and falls, winds and winds, until you think you might be lost and begin to question the sturdiness of your vehicle...then the property comes magically into view. I dislike reviews that describe something as "indescribable" or "there just aren't words..." because there are several thousand words I might use to describe this place and the challenge here, for me, is to choose the words that will help you see what I saw and want to pick up the phone and make a reservation at Snug Hollow Farm. There I was at the dentist office, of all places, trying to take my mind off my imminent torture by leafing through an issue of Southern Living Magazine. An article entitled "The South's Charming Inns" caught my eye, and right there, in full color, was my solution to a long-standing problem. I hate the holidays...absolutely can NOT stand the entire Christmas thing, beginning with black Friday weekend and ending with the inevitable post-holiday diet. I have long been looking for a way to celebrate the season (not the holiday) in a way that feels genuine to me, and a weekend away, unplugged and snuggled into a giant bed from which I can look out over acres and acres of rolling hills was exactly what I wanted. The Inn has a large main house with several bedrooms and from which all the meals are served (Snug Hollow serves full breakfasts and dinners). The fare is hearty, delicious, and vegetarian, which gave my husband only a moment's pause before he tucked in to one of the best lasagnas he has ever tasted, accompanied by fresh rosemary bread. Every dish we tasted was better than the last, and Snug Hollow makes full use of its glorious summer garden by canning vegetables and preserving herbs to use year-round. We supped the first night on pasta with lemon cream and a delightful medley of caramelized vegetables, followed by a jam cake with bourbon glaze, pomegranate seeds and freshly whipped cream. Somewhere in there was also a bean soup that was so outstanding in its simplicity and flavor that I immediately asked about the recipe. Our breakfasts included delights such as Greek yogurt and fruit compote served shortcake style, fresh eggs with crispy fried potatoes, biscuits with a vegetarian gravy (one of the best biscuits and gravy I have had in the South), and fruit pancakes with warm syrup. Luckily, Barbara Napier, the Inn's owner and my new best friend, has compiled her recipes into a cookbook that is available for sale and now lives permanently on my kitchen counter. The main house has three separate bedrooms, and there are also several charming private cabins available. I chose The Pearl in the main house, mainly because it boasted a Jacuzzi bathtub. I have never, not once, walked into a room at an inn, a B&B, a hotel - anywhere - and just cried tears of true joy and happiness...until I visited Snug Hollow. The Pearl was everything I could have wished for in a temporary hideaway from the world, from the king-sized bed covered in quilts and fluffy pillows to the porch overlooking the most magnificent view, to the smaller twin bed alcoves that made me wish I had young daughters again so that we could snuggle up together and read stories. The bathtub was deep and huge and we enjoyed the sound of laughter coming from downstairs and watched the stars come out while soaking away our stress. We hiked all over the property, were tempted into mischief by a small boat near a large pond, and were awakened the first night by a pack of playful coyotes. We listened to the coyotes playing in the moonlight and we both felt so, so lucky to be there.I'm not going to talk about the amenities like wifi and cable tv, because we didn't want them. We spent two lovely evenings reading in front of a roaring fire before turning in for the night. Everywhere you look in the main house there is something magical to see. Every nook and cranny is filled, it seemed to me, with love and comfort, books and comfy chairs, music and warmth. I didn't want to talk too loudly here. I didn't want to talk at all. I just wanted to soak in the peacefulness of this place that draws you in, hugs you, then sends you back out into the world relaxed and refreshed.Thank you, Barbara, and all the wonderful women at Snug Hollow Farm, for an absolutely perfect weekend.

At your earliest convenience, do yourself a favor and make a reservation to visit Snug Hollow Farm. Barbara and her crew know how to please their guests. The setting is a gorgeous, soul-restoring escape tucked between the mountains. Barbara greeted us and gave us a tour of the beautiful main house when we arrived then showed us around the cozy cabin. Our group of seven women loved it. I'm telling you; this lady has thought of everything and is a gifted and adept hostess. For example, for ill-prepared guests like me, she has rubber boots to use on hikes around the tranquil hills. She also has cooled spring water in the fridge, flashlights, robes, afghans, and wise tips for making the most of your experience. It's a treat just to talk with Barbara, but it's sublime to eat at her table. Dinner and breakfast were heavenly, every single bite. She served " "Kentuscan" bean soup, spinach lasagna, spring greens from her garden, roasted vegetables, and homemade bread. I meant to get her vinaigrette recipe. Shoot! For breakfast we savored fresh local scrambled eggs, fresh-squeezed orange juice, and oatmeal pancakes topped with fried apples along with coffee and tea. The next time you need "the lift of the hills" as Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings put it, high-tail it to Snug Hollow Farm. You'll be extremely glad you did.

This place is a real gem. Barbara is an excellent vegetarian chef and hostess. Spent 2 nights in Cottage with a view. I reserved dinner for our arrival night and highly recommend arranging this when you book. Once we arrived at Snug Hollow I didn't want to leave the beauty, birdsong and quiet surroundings. It literally took my breath away. Our 3 course dinner plus a fresh loaf of Braided Rosemary bread and a Dark Chocolate torte were delivered to our cabin. The food is delicious, plentiful and beautiful, all prepared by Barbara.I checked out each of the cabins and the 2 main house guest rooms. I would be content in any of them. Many hiking trails on the 300+acre property. Perfect location for reading, writing, meditation, hiking, bird watching and wildlife viewing. High on my "must return" list.

This is truly a magical place hidden not far from Lexington Kentucky. If you are looking for a place to recharge, to fill your heart with peace and restore your energy, this is perfect for you. The cabins and the main house are discreetly decorated with well curated pieces full of history. Everything radiates balance, peace and good taste. The beds I tried in the original cabin were very comfortable, everything was sparkling clean and the service provided was amazing. Breakfast and dinner foods are delicious and exquisite and we were served by Barbara, the owner, is a charming, well-read and friendly person whom you must meet. When I arrived at the cabin I felt like I returned home and I had a hard time leaving the place. Definitely planning to return!!
