I wanted something quick, convenient and cheap before I left town. I thought to stop by Whits, but they were closed. Thank goodness.I got a phenomenal peanut butter milkshake and the best fish sandwich for under $5 and that included a tip!I stepped out of the cold, to the side of the building where I watched a gal take extra special care of putting my sandwich together. I appreciated it and it absolutely hit the spot. I didn't know what I wanted exactly when leaving town. I've never made a better split-second decision!

I have been eating at the Second Street Dari Creme walk since I was young. It was a walk up ice cream shop with no dine-in offered.I have mainly eaten hot dogs and ice cream. On my last visit I had a small vanilla cone. The ice cream was delicious! It tasted like real ice cream and not ice milk. The hot dog with chili, onions and mustard are also yummy. Although it has been a while since I've had one but I'm sure it is still good. Service was fast and friendly. But beware on a hot summer night the wait could be a little long.

I use to love this place. They have really reasonable prices, and every flavor milkshake you could think of. Quality is what you'd expect for a small business dairy bar. But today I went with my husband to pick up some lunch. The young man with both ears pierced was incredibly offensive. My husband began to place his order, and the guy was like, "Woah is that it? I expected you to order like 5 hotdogs or something. I figured a guy like you would order so much more food!" He was saying it on a friendly way, but the words were so rude. My husband is a medium built guy. He's not "big" though he's always been insecure about his weight. So much so that he had most of his stomach cut out in an attempt to lose some of it. So he doesn't usually eat very much at once. He ordered a footer, those cheesy tater tot things, and a small milkshake. Pretty typical right? Then the guy said, "Oh yeah, there it is. That's the order I was expecting."How dare you make judgements, assumptions, and comment on the food that we order. I'm an extremely insecure person myself and if someone commented on my size and how much they expected me to eat, or the amount that I do order like it's a lot and to be expected from me, I probably would've run away crying. As it is, I hate to see my husband talked to like that, or anyone for that matter. Do your job and learn what customer service is. I have been coming here since I was a kid. Now I will never be back. Cost yourself your tip, and a loyal customer. Assh*le.

I got ice cream at Dari creme and there was an ONION in my ice cream!!That is not exceptable. I tried to call and they aparently don't take calls. So I am never going back there again. The onion is 1. Unsanitary and 2. It made me sick! Plus when they make an ice cream cone for you they don't gloves which is just plain gross.

Well, I mean, I grew up with my mouth watering for the next time the 'rents would take me and the siblings down for a footer at Second Street. But alas', the hubby got to be the first to review. No matter. Anyone growing up with Second Street barely knows that it's real name is Dari Creme and, therefore, Mr. L., you have been served. =PThe food is yum, yuM, YUM! Footers, cheese balls (my two favorites), corn dogs, and, I swear, double fudge (homemade melty chocolatey fudgy goodness) milkshakes. This was the first place that I had magic shell (you know, the chocolate that hardens on your ice cream) and to this day its my dairy treat of choice from this place. If you're not from Southern Ohio it's a good bet that you don't know what a dairy bar is ((1) no, do not think Dairy Queen and (2) I'll amend when others from other areas say they do know, but to this day I've not encountered anyone outside of the area that knows). You walk up to a window, order your food, stand outside and wait, pay very little money for the amazing and greasy stuff you get, then find some other place to go eat it. This, people, is the magic of a dairy bar. The special magic of this dairy bar is that the food is amazing and, if you should so choose, you can take a walk or drive (and I think someone is offering buggy rides?) along the famed flood wall murals or just hang out down by (I stress "by," b/c you never know what this way floats down that river) the Ohio river on a nice and sunny day. Also, this place is open year round, so get ya' a nice warm bowl of chili in the winter time. Gets packed at lunch time so unless your in it to people watch on the diverse crowd that frequents this place, I say give yourself and hour and avoid the lines. Happy eating!

Excellent food at a great price. Especially like the fried cheese balls, fried mushrooms, and a peanut butter malt.Staff is polite and friendly. Within a block or two of the river, perfect for a picnic.

Awesome awesome place. Where else can you get a footer and shake for under $3.00!?! From standing outside in any weather for your order to taking it on the river or Alexandria Point to eat the yummy food, this is the epitome of small town dairy bar atmosphere

I'm a Portsmouth native, so I know I am supposed to worship this place, but it's just alright at best. Service is usually slow. This place still doesn't accept any form of payment besides cash, despite numerous requests from many customers (and from customers they lost) over the years to stop being so cheap and to modernize. You can get superior food at almost any other dairy bar in the area with less of a wait and at a place that accepts credit cards. Nostalgia isn't enough of a reason to waste time hitting an ATM for cash to go get an inferior footer and overcooked sides.

I went to get a cheeseburger and they do not have one and then they have no montz sticks lol. Then i order potato bites and they are out of those. Reminds me of a fair stand but with little to no options of food if they even have the food they serve in stock.

I absolutely love this place! First stopped here six years ago passing through Ohio. I was so excited to learn it was still here, and nothing has changed! Milkshakes are amazing!
