Hole in the wall, local neighborhood joint which is a hidden treasure! The place may look closed, however the flavors on the inside let you know why Sante Fe is still open. Brian (owner) is as down to earth and inviting as can be. Anytime I'm home and can get to Sante Fe, im definitely doing so. Steps from Cardinal Stadium, Churchill Downs, & UofL's campus .. Sante Fe is def worth a try!

After a U of L baseball game we walked across the street for dinner. There was no one in the teaturant when we went in and the lights were off. They turned them on upon our arrival. A small, no frills restaurant with no alcohol. Chips seemed to be out of a bag but the salsa was pretty good. We ate a burrito, enchilada dinner and a taco between us. All food was good. Prices about average fir Mexican. Service was provided by the owner who says he has been at this location 23 years. He was very pleasant. Street parking. Very old school.

BUYER BEWARE: severely overcharged- bad business. I was so excited to try this place, based on reviews. It had everything i wanted, including Horchata and Tres Leches for dessert. So i call and order for pickup and send my husband. The owner repeated my order back to me twice. It consisted of 8 corn Mexican style tacos, side of rice ala carte, a Togo chips and salsa, horchata and Tres Leches cake. The menu pricing that we saw was almost 2 years old, so for good measure i added and extra dollar to what each taco cost as well as the Horchata and tres leches. Even tho that would make the tacos more expensive than the gourmet places popping up, i like to over estimate for good measure when pricing and sending someone else with money to pay for something. Like i said, i was super excited. We had a HORRIBLE experience for taco Tuesday at another establishment the week before due to s cheese allergy, and sense nothing came w cheese i knew it would be perfect and taste great because of the reviews/ aside from the chips being subpar(which i was already prepared for). My husband returns home and we start getting it all out. No Horchata, and no Tres leches cake. It's what i was looking soooooo forward to and got kinda frantic thinking i was overlooking, and i wasn't. The total was $40 before tip and even w my overestimation of pricing i had estimated it be about $34 for everything i ordered. So my husband didn't think much of it being $6 over what i said. So i call and the owner Answers. I tell him who i am and that he didn't give us my tres leches or Horchata. He immediately says it doesn't matter because he didn't charge me for it. I said "well i ordered it, and you repeated it back to me twice and it was on my order" he says again it doesn't matter because i wasn't charged. So again, i tell him i wanted it. I wouldn't order something i didn't want, so why would you not provide it to me given that i ordered it and you acknowledged it?He gets super frustrated w me and starts to yell at me to just come back and get it then. I tell him i drove 20 mins one way just to patron his restaurant and i shouldn't have to come back out. Again he goes very loudly "AAARRRRGGHHH!!!! I told you i didn't charge you, so just shut up then!!" I hung up and continued to bitch to my husband about how i specifically ordered from there because i wanted those things, he repeats them on my order and then thinks it doesn't matter because he supposedly didn't charge me for it?! Asked my husband for the receipt and he tells me the guy wouldn't give him one. That the owner was acting strange when he rang him up and just kinda typed in a couple things, fumbles over his words before he finally says "it's $40". So 8 chicken Mexican style corn tacos and an order of Togo salsa cost me $40???!!! Nah. I call BS. The food we actually did get wasn't anything to write home about. It had absolutely no seasoning. We had to squeeze all our limes on the tacos just to get some flavor. Some of the chicken tasted really old as it was super dried out. I'd say 3 of the tacos were super dried out. The chips are def the Kroger brand 10 for $10 that you get, and the salsa was just liquified tomatoes. Will NEVER go back. Don't give this shifty guy your money.

Santa Fe Grill is the best-known little-known hotspot that I can think of.Despite the fact that pretty much all of my friends know about it and that it has a very devoted, almost cult-like following -- especially among anyone who went to UofL -- it maintains its underground feel. And I hope it continues feeling special to eat at for a long time to come.Santa Fe's burritos are my go-to. I get the American version -- that's what it's called on the menu -- which has lettuce and tomato. The Mexican version has onion and cilantro instead. These burritos are huge -- definitely able to fill you up and perhaps then some. While I can't put my finger on how they're different, they taste better than 90 percent of the other burritos I have eaten. And at $6.90 each -- from what I can tell, the prices have gone up in the last year or so -- they are as easy on your wallet as they are uneasy on your waste line. Santa Fe's guac is also praise-worthy, as is the fact that it carries Mexican Coca-Cola -- made with sugar cane instead of corn syrup -- along with a good selection of other Mexican sodas. And they now can take credit cards, which was the one thing I have been critical of in the past. If you're out by campus and pass a pink building on the corner of Third Street, take some time to go in and get a truly great meal. You'll feel special being on the in with the rest of the population.

I absolutely love this place! Where else in Louisville can I get great tasting tacos as cheap as $1.90? If you know, please tell me!Every single visit, I order Mexican style corn tacos. I've never had their flour tortillas, so I can't tell you anything about that. I always order the shrimp tacos because they are the best! The tangy shrimp is cooked and flavored perfectly. I used to order chicken and pork, but the meat is dry sometimes. Chorizo is a must! It has enough spice to make my nose run, but as a spicy food noob, I can handle it. Also, each taco has two tortillas, not one.As for the other food, the complimentary chips that are served when you are seated have changed a few times. Sometimes they're super salty, but I don't really care to complain because they're complimentary. They come with salsa roja and salsa verde. I don't like the salsa verde because it's hot. I've had the chicken flautas twice, and they were alright. The rice and beans were decent also. I haven't tried anything from the rest of the menu because I LIVE FOR THESE TACOS. Order the tacos (at least 3), and you will leave happy.About the service, the people are really nice. I've never had anyone who was rude in the slightest sense. Sometimes it is busy, so the waiters can be slow. But I've observed that there are waiters who also work the register and take to go orders and the food runners. So if you see a guy standing around near the kitchen instead of asking you if you're ready to order, don't be offended because he's not your waiter.Other notes, there is street parking and you seat yourself when you walk in.

Best torta in the state of Kentucky. I've tried a lot of the menu over the years and never had anything I didn't like a lot. Family owned and operated. It's kind of a hidden gem and the owner is a really nice person.

Used to be great Mexican food, quality has been going downhill but today I had the worst burrito I've ever tasted very little meat mostly rice and cheese. Save your money, Q-Doba is a much better option now
